The only bar in Toronto that has a guaranteed live reggae band every week!!!
Roots Rock Reggae every Tuesday night!
And sometimes there can be as many band members crammed up on and around the tiny stage as there are people dancing. I've seen over 12 musicians jamming together!
The room is long and thin and angled, which creates an oddly shaped area for a dance floor between the stage and bar, especially with the sporadic table and bench seating. And though its difficult to find a seat, I'd rather be swaying to the sweet Marley music anyway!
Climb the stairs, pay the $10... and you'll be feeling the groove all night.
This is where the 20 and 30 something chilled out happy hippies and funky folks like to keep it mellow on the low down; that is, take a tour of the back patio and tell me you don't smell 'Jamaica Mon'.Listed in: Trendy, Funky, Groovy Music…

Do you like to dance? I like to dance.
My in-laws are huge fans of the Dave Murphy Band, who are a cover band that do everything from old school soul to newer pop stuff. They know how to fill a dance floor. I only ever go to the Orbit Room to see those guys and every time, seating is scarce unless you get there early and the whole room dances so hard, you can feel the floor bend.
Bar service is pretty quick, bathrooms are clean (though you have to walk through the stage to get to them... seriously.) and there's a back patio for the smokers.
It's a cool place to hear music and dance dance dance! -

I came here for the 'secret' Jesse Cook concert a couple weeks back, so I haven't really experienced the Reggae vibe. But I certainly have some positive comments about this place:
Pros:
-Service. The lady at the bar was super friendly. Also, they let me eat a burrito from across the street at the bar (because they don't serve food).
Cons:
-The shape of the bar is a bit awkward. If you need to use the washroom, you have to walk directly in front of the bar.
Can't say too much else about this place. It definitely has a hole-in-the-wall feel, which can sometimes be an important factor in the greatness of a good music venue - but that is contingent on good music. Jesse Cook's band was phenomenal and it is worth noting that if The Orbit Room can pull in his hand on a random weekday, they may very well have good music all the time. -

Is a Bashment! The orbit room offers an awesome resurgence of funk, soul, reggae, R & B, and jazz. Located on college street the Orbit room is always a good time! The joint is unassuming and has a nice chill vibe to it and the decor is modest. They offer live music almost every night and special events. There is a nice patio outside to cool off after you have dropped a little bit of waist.

INCREDIBLE MUSIC EVERY NIGHT!
Orbit Room is one of Toronto's best kept secrets. It's definitely one of the better places to take your out-of-towners to show them you know what's what in Toronto.
My favourite nights are Sunday, Monday and Thursday. On Sunday you get a wicked-good cover band called "Stifler's Mom". They pump out the hits while you enjoy the beers & shotees.
On Monday you get "Sisters' Euclid"- a rare beast in Toronto; a mixture of blues, bluegrass and Neil Young, led by the untouchable Kevin Breit (sp?).
Thursdays- I don't know the name of the band but they kick ass! They're led by the guitarist from 'Stifler's and they play what can only be known as "Toronto Blues". Not as painful as Chicago's, but every bit as thrilling to hear. The organist plays a Hammond B3- you music lovers know how special that one is.
In the Summertime, this place is one of the best joints in Toronto. There's an awesome patio out back to shoot the breeze in between sets. There's usually a cover charge of $8, but it's worth it peeps!Listed in: KD's Toronto Nightlife Guide

I was told before moving to Toronto that this city could hange with all the best live music towns in America, from Austin to Chicago to Nashville. With places like Orbit, I believe.
It was never in our plans to go here - I recalled some nice yelp reviews when I was searching for some great music about a week ago, but I filed it into the 'Maybe in the future' drawer of my mind. Luckily, after Canada beat Slovakia, a group that we met at a bar told us about this College street gem.
At 10 dollars, the cover seemed a little steep for a cover band. But once we heard them, we paid up. The bar, a small and narrow upstairs room, is laid out to provide everyone a good view of the small stage, seating space and a bit of dancing room. The drink prices were excellent, and the band, a cover band that I'm told plays every Friday night, sounded great. Featuring even a brass section, they played all kinds of fantastic hits from the last 30 years, the kind of music that gets this steel jointed leg locked neanderthal at least a little incentive to try to at least attempt a dancing movement.
Without a doubt, Orbit will be a fixture in a rotation of late night partying in the city. -

This is one of Toronto's best GEMs of a spot. All you see from the street is a tiled mural with the Orbit Room name and a small door leading up stairs from college street ... you pay whatever cover they ask for the night, and if you're lucky get one of the few tables. It is a small place, but jam packed with fun ... and always always wicked live jazz bands. The back patio for "smoking" can generally put a twist on your night too. An absolute must see.

Toronto is blessed with some amazing venues for intimate live music. The Orbit Room is a classic that is top of the list in my books. Last Wednesday was a reminder to me (having lived in the city for 10 years and recently back for a visit from South Africa) of the quality that is available in Toronto - and at a very affordable price. For $10 we checked out LMT Connection, a band headed by a guitarist called Leroy. He was a Motown session musician who is a natural of note, effortlessly creating a variety of sounds, complemented by harmonic scat singing, rousing blues and passionate renditions of James Brown, Marvin Gaye and other greats. "Christmas Blues" was a wonderful start to the first set and the energy from the band (simply a basist and drummer) was palpable throughout the night; something that was appreciated and reciprocated by the crowd. Funk, jazz, soul and even hints of trance and hip hop were part of the shot as the tight unit of musicians showed off their skills. In short, one of the best shows in town and value for money like no other for those out on a Wednesday on College St. "Take it to the bridge!"
