Review from Laurel P.
I did not like Oranj. I want to make that clear from the start. After spending too long shopping, my friends and I decided to be lazy and try out one of the restaurants in the mall. While I normally try to avoid generic chain restaurants like Moxie's or the Old Spaghetti Factory, I kind of wish we had just gone to one of those instead. Call me a sushi-snob, but I feel like if you're going to come to a pricey sit-down restaurant instead of going to the food court, you should get a higher quality meal.
The first thing that put me off about Oranj is that they didn't have a paper/pencil menu for ordering sushi and sashimi that is normally fairly standard at other restaurants. Most of the food on the menu is sold in combo form and as a vegetarian this made ordering somewhat difficult. I ended up going with the vegetarian bento box even though I really wasn't interested in eating everything in it.
The food itself was extremely unimpressive. The pile of lettuce and carrots in the corner of the box was confusing. Just because you drizzle some peanut sauce on it doesn't mean I'm not going to realize you just dumped the "salad" out of a pre-made bag from Safeway. As for the sushi, the rice was undercooked and the variety was boring. There are so many more options for vegetarian sushi beyond cucumber rolls!
I won't be going back to Oranj but I'm still going to give it 2 stars instead of 1 because the service was decent. I suppose if you're just stopping in for drinks, it wouldn't be a terrible venue but save your money. You can go to the food court for the same caliber of sushi. -

This is my last time going to Oranj after giving another try. The restaurant was always out of ingredients. Like I wanted to try the UNI Sushi and never got a chance to because they are always out of it. I rather go to Tokyo Express in the food court rather than going to Oranj.

This is the reason why people say that looks are deceiving.
This is a recently opened Japanese restaurant in WEM right on Bourbon St. I have been dying to try this place out ever since the "coming soon" billboards went up. I'm not going to lie, the looks of the place blends well with the Earls, Delux, and Moxie's around it.
But just let me tell you why I was very, very disappointed. I ordered a simple sushi roll (dynamite) and a fresh oyster. My boyfriend ordered the beef donburri.
The sushi wasn't even the greatest, to be honest, it was bland and flavorless. There was nothing about it that I was pleased about. The oyster, mind you it was $5, was TINY. I'm not even exaggerating, TINY. A little smaller than the size of a newborns hand. Wow. I can't even tell you how appalled I was. Really? Really? Finally, the beef was tough and almost had the consistency of jerky. My boyfriend said he would have rather gone to food court rice bowls for $10 cheaper and 10x better. You know that's sad when...
For these 3 small disappointing items, $45. I'm not even joking.
You're better off heading somewhere else, almost anywhere else.
Overpriced for nothing. Oh btw, this is owned by the same company that owns Jungle Jim's and Albert's. That should say enough...
