The Grand Opening of OPP Galerie et Boutique was tonight, and by the looks of the scene, it was definitely happening! After chatting with someone from behind the scenes, I was told that since the start of the event (5pm) there were already about 500 people that passed through the gallery.

The gallery used to be home of a hair salon, as well as some space that was not really used up. I remember going there for a sample sale, and it is also with the OPUS hotel. It is very spacious (minus the hundreds of other people surrounding me) and very fitting for this gallery boutique.  We were welcomed by a series of brightly painted pieces and with so many people and so many stunning pieces it was kinda like sensory overload.

I happened to have seen some of the pieces previously at my other favourite haunt The Belgo Building and also in a gallery in Vieux Port (Old Montreal).  The curator is Alexander Slim, Montreal resident, who has had exhibitions in the Opus Hotel, and from the pieces I have seen of his both exhibited and online, some are quite thought-provoking as well as some quite calming. Tonight featured many artists such as Axel Void an American with Spanish and Haitian heritage who has created many beautiful works and personal favourite Brandi Hofer.

I am very thankful for another gallery to be here in Montreal, particularly one that features many young, local, street artists  as this city is alive with creativity, and there is a definitely need to be able to get it out there more! (Pictures coming soon)
