Review from Tom D.
City Place, Toronto, ON
I moved to Toronto from Zanzibar about 6 months ago. I had zero friends so I went here once or twice. Everyone was so nice, and easily the cheapest pints of beer I have found so far in Toronto.
I go back to this place every month or two and they still remember my name. I keep looking for other places to go but I'm not sure why. I should probably stick to OB's. -

I had never been here before so it was a refreshing change. And since I was going on a date and the date ended quite awkwardly, it's a good thing I didn't bump into anyone I knew here (not to sound conceited...Toronto's just a small world and you bump into people you know at places you go to. Or well, I do. That's my world).
VIBE
The date was a few minutes late and I was a few minutes early. Thus, it was kind of weird that I was the only woman in the bar. The bartender let me take my time (lest I get stood up; no need to order a beer!).
The bartender even introduced himself: "Hi, I'm Tommy." Refreshing.
The bar is a good solid wood bar. Lots of tables for fours and groups. Many doo-dads on the wall.
NOTE: No Debit but they have an ATM Machine. Phew! That's because the date didn't have enough money to pay for the remainding portion of the bill and I have to cough up $5. Let's guess if I'm going on a second date! Um....
I DRANK/ATE
They have many craft beers on tap including Steamwhistle and Mill Street. Mill Street Organic was a nice way to wash down the stresses of the day and undertake new ones on the date.
I also had wings. They were quite good. Standard pub fare.
OBLIGATORY CATCHY REMARK
This pub was a nice change from all the gentrfiying/too-cool-for-school ones on Dundas West. It's not trying to be something it's not. And for that, I'd be back. Just not with the same guy.Listed in: Libations

Pretty small, narrow bar, with really hot bartenders and great service. If you can squeeze in, get in there, it fills up quickly, with good reason!

Opera Bob's Public House was never in my plan.... Since my to go place Cocktail Bar was not open... so I ended up coming here for a pre dinner drink...
It was 7 pm on a weekday... so the place was quiet.... the bar stool area looking out to College Street was quite delightful to people watch or just chill...
Bartender was really friendly and smiley... the vibe is laid back and the drinks are cheap....
I definitely would come back here for a drink or 2 when I am in the area... -

Opera Bob's is a great pub. Its decor is typical of a bar. Service and price are adequate. I came here for a quick drink.
*** DRINK ***
I had a pint of Hoptical Illusion. The beer was good - cold and not watered down.
*** SERVICE ***
Service was quick and friendly but didn't stand out as particularly great. The servers for the most part hung out with their friends in the small patio outside. None of this had any negative impact on my experience here.
*** ATMOSPHERE ***
The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. There weren't many people in the bar but the small patio area in the front was occupied. The patio seats 4-5 people. The look of the bar is typical with wooden floors and furniture and it's clean. There is seating available at the front of the bar, close to the entrance that is open to the outside via a garage door. The front door is a big wooden door which stands out from most entrances. This is definitely a nice place to hang out if you're in the area.
*** PRICE ***
The pricing is good as the beers are cheap.
*** EXPERIENCE ***
My overall experience was a good one. The service didn't wow me but it got the job done since I was only there for a quick drink. I enjoyed my drink and I liked the appearance. Opera Bob's is definitely a place worth visiting if you're in the neighborhood.Listed in: Noise 'n Poison

Toronto, ON
This place is the local 'pub'. Yes, we have the Crooked Star close, and the Communist's Daughter, but they aren't really 'pubs' in the same way that this place is.
One of the missing pieces of this neighbourhood was a place to watch NFL, or a hockey game. Yes, there are sports bars, but they are only good for watching Portuguese soccer matches. This place fills that gap.
The staff are all really nice, and the owners really care about their customers and building a following. If they aren't showing the game you want to watch on the TV, just ask. They will probably change it.
I'd probably suggest to them that more TVs with more games might really help and focus a bit there too.
But they also have good live music, and put on interesting events.
I'd probably not take in too much of the food, but it is passable. Good for when you've had a few beers.Listed in: Ossington Village

My favourite Dundas and Ossington bar. Excellent classic rock bands like 'The Unknown Culprits' and 'The Restless Age' and a great jukebox selection when there's no live music.
Darts, ringy hooky/hook hole, and touch screen video games all add to the fun.
Say hi to Joe one of the best bartenders in the city or any of the other funny, friendly staff there.
This bar can go from laid back to party central in a matter of minutes, expect anything! -

This is a great little local bar with really nice staff that try hard to please.
Nice selection of tap and bottled beers. Very relaxed atmosphere.
What sets Opera Bob's apart from neighborhood bars is they are always trying new things - live music, comedy shows, and they are doing a fantastic job catering to "footie" fans for this year's World Cup.
I don't know much about the food menu, but they appear to have fries, pizzas, nachos - typical unhealthy bar food.
Go for the friendly service, good beer, and comfortable scene. This is one of the few places in cold Toronto where I can imagine everybody knowing your name. Enjoy. -

Pretty manly dive bar. Small - and no one can sit outside with drinks after 11pm (noise?). Some local tall boys were $4.50. Dark inside. Good for playing Jenga.

It's the perfect local pub with amazing staff. NO pretentious urban hipsters behind the bar here. The staff are warm and friendly and are here for a good time too. They always have games on the go (Ringy-Hooky is a fave of mine) or little treats for customers: 15.99 Pitcher of Steamwhistle + a platter of Oyster Boy oysters! Not a spot for a crazy night out, but perfect for drinks with close friends.
