Really good value. Gem of a place in an area where there's not much.
If you walk a little ways, you can get to Old Town, and they are near the
bus/train transfer station, so a $5 day pass will get you anywhere you want. -

Great Value
Great Value
Kind of weird location. Great walking access to Old Town.
Super nice staff. They are really awesome and über helpful.
The rooms are less than spectacular, but most of my time in here was unconscious (i.e. sleeping). Slept well, comfortable bed.
The only strangeness was at the free breakfast buffet. Enclosed space; hungry families, morning quirkiness.
We grabbed our bagel, cream cheese and boiled egg, fruit and coffee, and headed straight outside to the pool patio. Beautiful tropical garden, no fussing kids and/or parents bitching, in short...nirvana. -

We have stayed at this hidden gem twice now. Upon our initial visit we were skeptical based on the industrial area and the appearance of a typical motel. Mental flashes of aching backs, neck pain and headaches began to surface.
Upon check in the landscaping of the grounds was thoughtfully done and gave a warm, secure feeling. The lobby is very clean, warm and inviting as well as the courteous, friendly staff. We have stayed in the new section with two Queen beds. The rooms are of good size, very clean and surprisingly sleep well. Rooms have wall mounted air/heating units which we run for the white noise value. Very important if you have anyone suffering from ringing of the ears :) Most importantly...NO back/neck pain, NO headaches the next morning!! This and the convenience of Old Town dining, shops and a great place to stroll just across the way.
Another selling point is the train station just across the street. You truly don't need to drive if you don't want to. The front office also sells tickets to the local attractions.
Our most recent visit, this past April was no different. Great customer service, very clean rooms and the kids once again enjoy the heated pool which is gated and enshrouded with nice landscaping and lighting near the lobby. Of special note...our oldest child managed to forget his very expensive prescription glasses. He didn't mention this until we returned home (2.5 hours away). After contacting the front desk and a little persistence the glasses were found and mailed to us.
We were sold on this place after our first visit but now we won't stay anywhere else. Old Town Inn gets 5 stars for location, ease of transportation options, value (AAA discount / USAA discount), cleanliness, comfortable sleeping accommodations, and OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER RELATIONS. -

Had a great 2 day stay last week. Loved the proximity to Old town. Many good food locations w/in walking distance & the train & trolley station were right across the street too....didnt really need our car. The breakfast was wonderful, all you can eat, many selections;l Good coffee & juices & cereal selections. Had parking right outside our room. Beds were big cozy queen size. The room service was great & the front office staff was the best. The big warm pool was our highlight. The kids stayed in all day every day. Clean towels were a plenty....I Highly recommend

I like to stay here when I'm in town because it's decent, has free wifi, free parking, and free breakfast. This time around I paid for a budget room, which placed me in the older building (I usually stay in the newer part of the hotel). The room was a decent size in the older building, but the sheets and comforter definitely seemed thinner. Also of note was how loud the traffic from the street was. I somehow did not notice it before in the past, but this time around it was very noticeable. I stayed up on the second floor and heard every car and truck rumble by. It died down a bit at night, but it was still quite annoying! I heard the traffic more than the train.
Despite this last stay, I still like staying here and will do so again. The breakfast is adequate - cereal, hard boiled eggs, DIY waffles, oatmeal, juice, bagels, bread, jams, jelly, peanut butter, fruit, coffee - and the staff are nice. There is coffee and water available in the lobby at all times. -

Stayed here for 5 nights last week under the boyfriend's AAA discount and enjoyed our stay. It was not luxury but worth the price.
Excellent customer service and staff. There were minor mishabs with our room here and there but other then that we slept peacefully. The staff responded quickly to all problems and were accommodating in every way.
The street is questionable at night but the property is safe and probably the nicest hotel there.
We will return the next the time we are in town. -

Awsome Place! We were very pleased with our stay. The front desk staff was relaxed, informative and very helpful with any and everything. They have a very good continental with fruit, bagels, cereal, waffles, hard boiled eggs, danishes, etc. The coffee was good, my wife's only complaint about the coffee was the absence of flavored creamers - not enough to lose a star. I have the bill in front of me we had a economy queen , the room was clean and comfy, no frills, it did have a large flat screen with cable ( a treat for us!). Our total was (67) plus tax (7) and SD tourism (2) was $76 (AAA discount). Hard to top that! Keep up the good work Old Town Inn!

I was very impressed with this adorable hotel steps away from Old Town. My friend and I checked in over the weekend for a staycation and enjoyed every minute of it. The Jacuzzi tub was amazing and so was the fireplace. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I will be back soon....veryyyy soonnnn!!!!!!

Would have been a great experience, if they would honor their deals.
They will not honor the Yelp check-in deal they offer. There was (is?) a check-in offer for a Jacuzzi special for $137. I had this up on my phone and showed their front desk manager Anna this. They told me "Sorry, the Jacuzzi suite is so popular we won't give you that deal since it could easily be filled by other people" but she did give me a 10% discount which was better than nothing. False advertising is annoying, hence my low rating.
**Edit**
I received a letter in the mail from Old Town Inn. It contained an apology, along with a check for $64 and a voucher for a free night's stay there. I have to say I was shocked at how much commitment you have towards customer service. I retracted my original rating and gave you 5 stars as a result. Thank you for going out of your way to help a customer.Comment from Lis D. of Old Town Inn 4/24/2012

As the other reviews state, the people who work here are cool, and it's clean and attractive, if not in the ideal area for visiting San Diego.
You can walk to the Old Town area and the trolley. Anything else requires a car.
I didn't get excited about the breakfast--fruit was thin on the ground, the bagels and bread were low-quality, and I don't dig waffles. But it was free--I had a danish and coffee.
Mainly, what makes this place great value is the friendliness of the staff, the cleanliness, free parking right by your room, and the fact that the bed and pillows are very good. -

I used Yelp to find an inexpensive place as an alternative to an over-priced conference hotel. The Old Town Inn is a short walk away from the trolley station to take you to downtown and has free parking (which you don't find downtown).
The rooms are clean and simple, but you can tell that management is doing their best to go above and beyond. For example, they have a nice free breakfast, DVD movies to borrow, free Internet access, and the free parking I mentioned earlier. Looks like they are really trying to win people over with a great service. (Other hotels charge you extra for perks like Internet and parking).
We had some drunk people come back late at 2 a.m. and make a lot of noise (not management's fault, of course), and they handled it like a champ.
Highly recommend this place and would definitely stay there again! -

I've only been here a day! My first time here, and wow! I was blown away by it's superb, over the top friendly staff. Great service!!! Keep up the good work!
Not only is this inn cheap, it offered pet friendly lodging for a decent price! They provide doggie bags, too!
This place definitely exceeded my expectations. An inn, I expected small, dirty "old town" feel but instead it's a decent size and clean! Fresh linens and towels, all day coffee/tea til 11pm. And check this, FREE complimentary breakfast!!!! Includes cereals, oatmeal, make your own waffles, bagels, muffins, pastries, etc. Free parking! Free wifi!
What a steal!!!! I would definitely come back here with my other half and pet for weekends in SD. Close by sea world, gaslamp district, mission beach, shopping centers, etc! Friendly atmosphere and though it's a bit on the outskirts of old town historic, San diego, I wouldn't mind the extra block of walking to get there.
I'm already satisfied with this place, and I have another day to go!!!
ILOVEOTI!
Ps. Free DVD rentals, and a collection that offers Casablanca is ok in my book! -
Review from Brian D.
San Diego, CA
This place is a gem. It's in a slightly seedy, industrial area right between Point Loma, Hillcrest and Old Town. I'd just spent a week at a very nice Marriott property right on the bay, so I had my doubts. And when I pulled in to the place, those doubts multiplied.
But don't let the gritty neighborhood fool you. Old Town Inn is clean, quiet and safe. The rooms are comfy. And the staff are courteous almost to a fault, bending over backward to make your stay pleasant.
In fact at every turn, this odd little find surprised and delighted me. The budget-friendly price is an obvious draw for those sadly lacking trust funds (like me). And the free DVD rentals, quirky as that perk sounds, was a charming touch -- someone here has seriously good taste in movies. Princess Mononoke? At a place called Old Town Inn? In this neighborhood? I'm impressed. Baffled, but impressed.
Bottom line, if you're looking for an above-average hotel right off major highways (and close to Sea World) that tries hard to exceed your expectations, this is your Inn.
I'd give Old Town Inn five stars, but the neighborhood combined with sloooooow, Skype-unfriendly wi-fi made me stop short. Hey, no place is perfect, but this one is pretty close. -

Stayed at Old Town Inn while we were in San Diego as part of a Southern California Vacation. We checked in pretty late on the first night because of when our flight landed. The person who checked our group in was amazing. We were a group of four staying in two rooms. She was not able to get us in side by side rooms but we were only separated by one room. She then asked us what type of vacation we were there for. We told her Museums, Zoo, and food. She gave really good restaurant recommendations.
The rooms were larger than expected for the price and really well kept. The heaters worked great( we are not used to cold). The make your own breakfast was nice and hit the spot. We don't like spending a lot of money on a meal that we don't each much at.
Walking distance to Old Town was key. We got some really great food and it is a nice area to walk around.
Overall of the three hotels/ resorts we stayed at this one came in number two. Disney's Grand Californian beat it out, we have Disney Time Share and had a two bedroom villa. Much nicer to stay at than La Quinta in the Palm Desert area. -

Clean, centrally located Inn, with a friendly staff at a great price. What more could you want? Waffles for breakfast? They have that too.

Review from Danny C.
I am down with this inn. It's small, but clean. The facilities are well kept, and the staff is super friendly and informative. They don't bother you unless they really have to, so I was just left alone, which was exactly what I wanted. They also have a complimentary breakfast with fruit, cereal, tea, coffee, waffles, pastries, toast, and bagels. There's a swimming pool and lots of free channels.
Minuses? There's only one, jenky vending machine, and they ended up charging me for a map, even though they didn't tell me it cost money when they just handed it to me. Their wi-fi also didn't work either, but I've experienced this with a lot of hotels with free wi-fi.
Otherwise, I would come back. It's directly across from the MTS transit station and my USD shuttle, so it was a really convenient place to stay. Also, it's next to a bunch of great restaurants and destinations (all within walking distance too). If you're here for AP by the Sea training, it's about $70 a night. You can't top that. -

Five stars because I found a great hotel for $70ish! Granted, I booked the budget room and it was small but it did the job. Hell, it more than did it's job.
The room and restroom were clean, the bed was reasonably sized for a queen, the t.v. was a flat screen, free Wi-fi and free parking! Where can you find hotels like this nowadays for less than $100? Nowhere I tell ya. Nowhere but Old Town Inn.
It's a 5 minute walk to the trolley station and a 10 minute walk to Old Town San Diego. It seriously doesn't get much better than this...but wait! It does! Free breakfast! They state that it's continental but they have muffins, danish, cereal options, milk, orange juice, coffee, water AND make your own waffles! That pretty much won me over. So much so that the fiance and I purchased a waffle iron a couple of days later.
I'm staying here next time I hit up San Deezy. -

My husband and I were here a couple years ago to celebrate our anniversary. We were looking at different hotels which were affordable. We came across Old Town and were glad we did. The rooms are nice, the pool is clean. They had lights around the pool which was also nice to see. They serve breakfast in the morning. The food was very good and I got to make my first waffle, it was fun. We also liked the fact that It is a few minutes away from old town. You have to check out old town.We highly recommend this hotel. We wanted to come back next year to celebrate our anniversary but unfortunately we can't afford it. The staff was very friendly and helpful though out our stay.

Santa Clara, CA
This Inn has the classic two story motor lodge setup. The front desk folks were awesome. The price was a bit on the high side for this type of venue but understandable since it is close to Old Town.
It is located in an industrial area that is very loud and ugly when you are outside but plenty quiet inside. Old Town San Diego is a short walk and no doubt is why someone decided to plant an attractive motel in the middle of this otherwise ugly neighborhood.
They have a free breakfast with a self serve waffle maker and other breakfast foods but do not have eggs, sausage or bacon.
You can borrow a book or DVD for free which I thought was a nice touch.
Overall a nice hotel and would rebook this place next time we are in San Diego. -

Excellent customer service, free parking, close to everything, and under $90! The only reason for 4 instead of five stars is the train at night (twice). Aside from that, absolutely wonderful!

El Segundo, CA
The one very important thing the other reviews leave out...
The windows in the hotels aren't sealed very well and the place is right next to a busy street. Equaling lots of noise when trying to sleep. Luckily it slows down late in the night but still, any louder than average car can be heard as easily as if the window was open.
That being said, the rest of the reviews are spot on. The rooms are decent size. The bed is very comfortable. Waffle breakfast was pretty good but everything else about the breakfast was pretty standard. The staff are very friendly and great to talk to. You can also "rent" movies and boardgames. The shower has a shower head at about 5' 6" from the ground but it puts out quite a bit of water and it's very maneuverable as far as shower heads go. Ask for AAA discount. For two weekend nights for under 100 each night this place is a steal.
Old town is really close and a short walk. Awesome people there, great atmosphere, and a lot of shopping.
The place is just outside the middle of everything. I would hop on the freeway and wherever I needed to go, Downtown, sea world, fashion valley mall, was all within a few exits.
Didn't get to check out the pool but it says it's heated and looks well maintained.
Does anyone else notice that EVERYONE speeds in SD? The lowest speed you'll see is like 75. It's so great to be out of LA and drive on a freeway where people can go fast without cutting each other off all the time.
I'd love to give this place 5 stars if they would put in some new better sealing windows. -

Definitely as good as it gets for hotels of this type.
I have stayed at the Old Town Inn twice now and I really enjoy it.
Let me go ahead and tell you why!
Location- It's in a good location. It's near old town, Sea World, and is only a short drive to any other area you want to go to in San Diego.
Service- Everyone is so friendly and helpful here and you seriously get the same type of service that you would get in an expensive Las Vegas hotel.
Cleanliness- As soon as I walked into my room I could smell clean linens. ALWAYS a good sign (beds are comfortable btw). The restroom was also spotless!
Breakfast- Is it terrible to say that I was mostly excited about staying here because I can make my own waffles in the morning? Well it's true. They have a super cute breakfast area with a TV and everything.
Best thing ever- My doggy was able to stay with me. Getting to take your dog on vacation is priceless. I didn't have to worry about getting a dog sitter or having him stay somewhere sad. There is a pet fee, but it's totally worth it!
I highly recommend staying here. -

Wonderful little hotel! Walking distance to Old Town. This isn't anything fancy by any means, but a wonderful experience for our little family. Great breakfast included. Clean. Wonderful people working there. The price is great. Free DVDs to check out, free Wi-Fi, free books and games to check out. Coffee and tea at all hours. It was a little noisy during the day in the room with traffic noise, but it didn't seem to keep anyone from sleeping great at night. I would recommend this over and over again.

I had never been to San Diego before but I had been wanting to go to the San Diego zoo. I finally got someone to make the drive with me. I picked the Old Town Inn from a list of places I found on http://Tripadvisor.com. They had great reviews, it was close to the zoo and they offered a discount on zoo passes. It is also in walking distance to the Old Town area. I knew nothing of this area before we arrived. It was a pleasant surprise.
Our room was a good size and very clean. We had two large queen size beds, cable access (though we never turned the TV on) and free wifi access. They offer complementary breakfast service. The highlight was the do-it-yourself waffles (yummy).
The staff was friendly and attentive. I was always greeted with a smile. I will be returning to San Diego (next time Sea World and San Diego Safari). I will more than likely stay here for both trips. -

Daly City, CA
This is nice, economical alternative to the cheaper chain hotels in the area. I was looking for something easy on the wallet, but not roach-infested. Old Town Inn is independently owned, and it shows in the way they take good care of their customers and their hotel.
Although it is walking distance to Old Town, it is a bit secluded from the more commercial areas, and you might as well have a car handy if you're spending time in San Diego. Despite the somewhat industrial surroundings, it's still pretty quiet and you aren't close to the shadier parts of town. -

Long Beach, CA
I've stayed at this place twice so far and I had a good time. I found this location online and decided to take a chance for its price and location. It's located in an industrial part of Old Town and is just right by the 5 freeway. Price wise they offer pretty decent prices for each room from the average queen beds to the suite ranging from over $50/night and up. Rooms are pretty clean and decent and the beds are SO comfortable! Did I say 4 goosedown pillows per bed?!
The staff has been very cordial to us and gave us good helpful advice of where to go and where to eat. The main lobby is well decorated and maintained with free wi-fi. They also have complimentary juice and water in the lobby during the day. Their breakfast is pretty good with make your own waffles, bagels, cereal, etc.. Don't expect any meat products for breakfast but for a quick breakfast to go, it's pretty darn good! Their pool is well maintained and only 5 ft. deep for us non swimmers!
Overall, for an inn, this place is the most decent one I've been in. I like the overall appearance and Spanish decor style and how low profile they are. Not bad for an online chance! -

Just spent a few nights here while in San Diego to visit the zoo. The room was clean and extremely comfortable. The staff is super friendly and helpful, full of advice on other things to visit and how to get there. My daughter was sick on our last day and we were able to get a later check out with no problem, desk clerk even asked how she was feeling when we left. We loved this place!

We were going on a "dog beach" weekend when we lost our reservation for our pet friendly hotel. We called around looking for a hotel that would take three good sized dogs. No big surprise, but no one would take us. Then we called Old Town Inn. They have a policy of two dogs under fifty pounds. We had three dogs between 40-70 lbs. The lady on the phone had to ask her manager about it, but she said that it would be okay. When we got there there was only one room left, and they had saved it for us. They only charged us the usual fee for two dogs and gave us the room. The room was very small, but we were happy to have one. It was clean, cute, and very quiet. They also have a great little pool there.

Review from Toshi I.
Upon first glance of the sign, I mistook it for a Mexican restaurant. Strangely, it is across the street from an industrial area so you will be thrown off. Then seeing the exterior corridors, I thought, uh-oh, hubby inadvertently made an error. We had one bad experience years ago at one of our spontaneous drives to San Diego during a sold out weekend. It was a HoJo and I didn't sleep a wink.
So of course, old memories flooded back and I was anticipating a substandard experience.
I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was friendly and helpful for the most part, and the lobby and surrounding areas were well kept. There was thoughtfully planned landscaping and pride in ownership at this location.
Our room was nicely upgraded with new sinks and a very comfy bed.
It was nice to have a vending machine and ice machine located conveniently on the 2nd floor, so I didnt have to shlep back down to the first floor for a late night refreshment.
The pool is nice and uncrowded when we went for a night swim.
Continental breakfast was low maintenance with options for everyone. Variety came in the form of hard boiled eggs, cereal, instant oatmeal, pastries, bagels and make your own waffles which was a hit with my son.
The location is walking distance to Old Town but you will need to cross the street, cross the trainstation through the tunnel, up the stairs and then down another block or two for restaurants.
So not the most convenient but not a bad walk either. I'm not a fan of crossing busy streets, so we parked at the trainstation and hoofed it from there.
The only thing that was annoying, but not the fault of the inn is that there is no left turn when you exit. You will have to make a U turn.
We'd definitely stay here again on our next SD trip! -

For the price, this place cannot be beat! A beautiful little hotel with gorgeous pool area, lobby, flora and fauna. The location is central-- right between the Mission Beach/ La Jolla Shores side of things and the Downtown/Coronado side of things. Perfect if you have a car. Old Town is walking distance-- totally touristy but cute. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast is included, and lovely. Fresh fruit, fruit salad, make your own waffles, toast, bagels, cereal, danish. Our room was clean and had a fridge and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and I want to go out and buy the pillows because they were perfect. We adored this hotel and would definitely stay again.

This is a very cute Spanish decor motel with a pool. The rooms are average but comfy if your just looking for a place to stay at a reasonable rate. Old town shopping is not too far away either, about a 5 minute drive. For those of you AAA car insurance members, they do offer you discounts as well.

I am a hotel snob, usually staying in one of the major chains with reward points, so when I was booked here by my district, I kind of freaked out. But I was so pleasantly surprised!! My room had two queen beds, and the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in! The room had a TV and DVD player. They have at least 50 movies you can borrow from the lobby if you don't bring your own. The room and property were very clean. The free breakfast was basic, but offered what I needed. The pool is on the small side, and the location isn't exactly beautiful, but given the price, the proximity to Old Town and other attractions, and the amazingly comfortable accommodations, I highly recommend staying here!

I was very happy with my room, the service, and the amenities at the Old Town Inn. My cat and I needed a place to stay for two nights between moving out of one home and moving into another. I stayed in the older building and it was immaculate, comfortable, and very convenient. I would highly recommend Old Town Inn for anyone looking for clean, comfortable, convenient, pet friendly, reasonably priced lodging.

Cant beat this place for the price. Its under $100 a night and walking distance to Old Town. The area around it was sort of industrial but felt very safe here and there was no problem getting around. Staff was very nice and helpful. Our room looked like it might have been an older room but it was clean, everything in it worked fine, and there was a microwave and fridge in it. I will definitely return here for the great rates and friendly service. Give this hidden gem a chance if you're on a budget. Free wi-fi worked fine in our room even though we were all the way in the back of the hotel and one of the last rooms. Didnt take advantage of the breakfast but I will next time!

We stayed 3 nights with our 4 kids and were very happy with the super friendly service, nice pool, free breakfast fit for a foodie, the Ms. Pac man and Galaga video games, not to mention free DVDs, books, and board games to borrow. It's the type of place you almost want to keep secret but that wouldn't be fair. They also sell discounted tix to the zoo and Sea World. The price was also reasonable.

We stayed three nights and really enjoyed it. The location is great-we used 5 gallons of gas in three days since it is close to everything. We had one of the smaller rooms with one bed but it was fine for us. I didn't think we would use the free movies but we did and they had a good selection to choose from. It was definitely a good deal and I'm glad we chose it. We forgot something and they called the same day and mailed it to us right away. I would recommend the Old Town Inn.
