Omigod. With just one bite of their Cheerleader Sundae (vanilla frozen custard, strawberries, white chocolate, and whip cream), I'm in love! L.O.V.E. I say! So creamy! So smooth! So sinfully tasty!
It's a good thing this place is 18 miles away from my house because I would go here every day and weigh 300 lbs as a result. -
Review from Stef M.
I stopped in as part of a Savor Seattle tour of Cap Hill and was able to try vanilla, mint chocolate chip, and vanilla. The flavors were nice, but I guess frozen custard just isn't creamy enough for me (they use milk and egg yolks instead of cream, which is why it's not technically ice cream).
I might stop in again sometime and try a sundae or something - I smelled the delicious smell of waffles while I was there because they were making waffle cones to order! The flavors of the day might be a little hit-or-miss, too. I'm not a big fan of mint chocolate chip (hate that fake green color!) so I'd hit it up on a day when there's a more interesting flavor o' the day.
The decor inside is fun - reminds me of being back in elementary school! For February/Valentine's Day, they had an anatomically correct drawing of a heart on their chalkboard :) -

I lived in the midwest where Frozen custard is a staple. To be honest, they still make the best Frozen custard ever, but Old School definitely gives the shops in the midwest a run for their money. The atmosphere is a "school-like" atmosphere with chalkboards and small wooden tables to eat at. The employees are enjoyable and nice. I love that the flavors rotate depending on the day and the time of year. I'm not a big fan of different flavors, but they are quite tasty.
If you haven't been, you definitely have to visit soon. If there is a line, there often is...it will be worth the wait- trust me. -
Review from Cat A.
They have a specific flavor set for each day, aside from the regular frozen custards of chocolate and vanilla. They have blended drinks with interesting names as well as various sundaes. We chose their flavor of the day, "our strawberry" in sundae form. Delicious!
But I don't know if it's better than Molly Moons. Just sayin' -

Frozen custard has a smoother and silkier texture. They always have vanilla and chocolate flavor, then it's the flavor of the day. A single scoop with a waffle cone is good, but the waffle cones are not as impressive as Molly Moon's. If you know the name of the creature on the chalkboard, you get a free scoop of frozen custard. (1 guess only). It's nice that put up locale Seattle High Schools around the room, and with school themes for their specialties works 'Cheerleader', 'Muddy Buddy', etc, it adds a cool atmosphere.

Daily custard flavor specials. Vanilla and Choco 24/7/365.
Super rich and creamy (sometimes a little bit toooo sweet for my liking, especially with the extra caramel and fudge).
I like to keep it simple....Homeroom special (brownies + vanilla custard).
Open late, minimal seating, but oddly enough, never crowded when I go.

You guys. YOU GUYS.
I had never had frozen custard before, and I had NO idea what I was missing. Holy crap. Smooth, creamy, eggy, freezy awesomeness! I would argue that this is far superior to most ice creams - it's like soft-serve, but somehow richer.
They only do vanilla, chocolate, and a flavor of the day, which is usually an indicator of a SERIOUSLY GOOD PRODUCT. No need for fancy flavors, just order the vanilla and prepare for your mind to be blown by how good vanilla dessert can be. You can also get all sorts of awesome toppings (i.e. the super-tasty Shoo-fly Pie Co.'s Strawberry-Rhubarb pie filling).
If you're feeling fancier, their sundaes are also kind of the best thing ever. We had the peanut butter/brownie one and oh dear sweet dessert gods is that thing good! -

i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Old School with all my heart. The best part is eating the custard fresh as it rolls out. So creamy. So delectable. So good. Just a scoop of regular vanilla is perfect (although I liked the vanilla better without their new addition of the vanilla bean). The banana milkshake is quite amazing as well. Also, the concrete with any topping (a blizzard-esque creation) is so much better with custard rather than ice cream. Old School is THE place to go.

I ate the peppermint custard and Kahlua custard here while on a food tour of Seattle and I have to say this was the best frozen custard I've ever had. It's incredibly rich and creamy without being too sweet. The flavors don't overpower the custard, which gives it these amazing layers of taste. Like, the peppermint custard could have easily been too minty, but it was perfect. You could taste the peppermint, but I also could taste vanilla bean, spice and a buttery sweetness. Likewise, I could taste Kahlua, but it wasn't too nutty, and had these amazing chocolate and spice flavors. I give this place my highest endorsement.

Silky, silky smoooooooth custard, good enough to meet or even beat my favorite, Ted Drewe's in St. Louis. If you're not familiar, Ted's is one of those local food "things" that is actually worth a detour or trip for, rather than just something hyped by locals. But Old School does just as good a job with its custard. My only complaint is that they only offer three flavors each day - vanilla, chocolate, and a rotating flavor. You can check their calendar to see which rotating flavor is up - ours was juicy lemon, which was good (but I would prefer more tart) and some of the upcoming sounded even better.
It's a bit of a walk for someone staying downtown, but if you want to explore Capitol Hill and you're walking anyway, this is a nice refreshing stop. Now...do they sell Christmas trees in the winter like Ted's does? -

Mmm, frozen custard. I'd thought you were lost to the wilds of Wisconsin, but thankfully I found you back in Seattle. Better than that, you come with a huge blackboard full of menu selections, a friendly staff that immediately asks if you want to try the flavour of the day, and a take-out case full of various pints.
Creamy, smooth, soft, what more do you need? -

If you've never had frozen custard, this would be a great place to try it out.
The staff is friendly, and the frozen custard is great. If you go on a good night, you can try a great new flavor, but their vanilla is a really good stand-by. Their specials seem to be a hit with the people I go with as well, but I'm more of a Plain-Jane person, so I get just a "scoop."
The price also isn't bad compared to other nearby ice cream shops, so you won't regret your purchase at all.
So if you are getting bored of ice cream, or just want to try something new, check out Old School. -
Review from Tan Lo S.
I like this place, but it doesn't beat Peak's Frozen Custard.
I love their menu items and they are really good. They have funny school names and they have great service. I think it's decent priced and it is fulfilling! -

I am an expert in the frozen dairy desert genre, with extensive training and research during my high school job at Dairy Queen. That said, I know people's tastes in frozen treats vary greatly so maybe not everybody can love smooth frozen custard expertly made the old school way.
Personally, I like custard & ice cream that is very creamy and not too airy. Also I don't like anything that tastes like artificial flavoring or janky flavor combinations like bubble gum or bacon. Old School does custard the right way...and to be honest I'm not sure if I've ever had bad custard anywhere, so the right way must be pretty common.
Chocolate = muy bien, creamy and not fake-tasting
Vanilla = excellently creamy & excellent with strawberries on top
Flavor of the Day = i've had 4 and they've all been fantastic.
Decent serving sizes and a location next to cool shoe store (Rock Paper Scissors) make this a 5 star Capitol Hill experience. -

I love all things sweet! Having lived nearby for years, I realized that I never tried Old School Frozen Custard so I stopped by the first chance I got. They have lots of interesting concoctions written out on a huge chalkboard. I went with the root beer float, and my bf had something with strawberries. My float was okay...seemed like something anyone can whip up at home. I felt like I was paying more for the "old school" root beer than the frozen custard. My bf's order was kinda weird. The strawberries were frozen and tasted old. Gross! As for the frozen custard itself, it was A-OK! It was like a smoother version of a Wendy's frosty.
Truthfully, the ambiance was cool. I love the old school feel of coming into a dessert shop and sitting down to enjoy my treat. However, novelty aside, it was one of those places were I am glad to have tried it once but will probably not go back as often as my favorite dessert spot, D'Ambrosio Gelato. -

I come here a lot. Hailing from the East Coast, I am so sad that ice cream is an afterthought in Seattle. There are very few ice cream places, and the ones that exist have that gourmet flare. Sometimes, you just want some simple ice cream.
Hail Old School. This is my favorite ice cream place in Seattle. I LOVE the texture of the ice cream. It's a "hard" ice cream, but it's soft and smooth. I ALWAYS get the chocolate ice cream, it's just SO good. I love my chocolate ice cream and am really picky, but this is the perfect balance of not too sweet and creamy.
If you like variety, this place probably won't be the best option. They only have 2 regular flavors (chocolate and vanilla) and one flavor of the day. To be honest, I have yet to find a flavor of the day that I like. I'd say the chocolate peanut butter is my favorite of all the ones I've tried. However, I wouldn't say I am a good source for this because I do not like toppings. I'm a traditionalist; I like the ice cream to be simple and stand on its own. Their flavor of the days are often their vanilla or chocolate staples mixed with other flavors and toppings, so not my favorite. However, I can recommend the turtle sundae, super good if you like pecans and fudge. -

UM. MY FAVORITE FROZEN DESSERT EVER!!
Creamy texture, yet it doesn't taste heavy like all other ice creams. Well, probably because it's frozen custard!
Vanilla: Awesome. A great base is needed for all wonderfully tasty frozen custards.
White Chocolate Chip: Although tasty, a tad too sweet (and I have a sweet tooth!)
Banana Cream Pie: The best ever! Tastes exactly like it with graham cracker crust pieces in it!!! I could eat a whole gallon of this!
I'd pick this over Molly Moon's any day.
Street parking is usually not too hard to find there. Definitely should be on your Seattle Bucket List! -
Review from Diana S.
Never have I ever been a dessert kind of person, but since moving to Capitol Hill, I have definitely reconsidered. Apart of this conversion has been due to Old School. Frozen custard, being something I had never heard of before Seattle, was truly an experience. Creamier than frozen yogurt yet without all the heaviness of ice cream, I fell in love with the thin line in between. The flavors are always delicious - vanilla being authentic and the chocolate not overbearingly sweet.
My roommate, from Bonney Lake where Old School originated, insists on the Concrete, which is blended ice cream with toppings. Though I have never tried it, it looks like a pulmonary artery about to burst in all the best ways.
With classics like Chocolate and Vanilla and a rotating schedule of new flavors, Old School is truly a trip through nostalgia with a reminder of the present. -

Executive Summary:
Huge menu (literally)
Not a lot of options
$4 for a one scoop waffle cone
So the custard was excellent. This places serves vanilla, chocolate, and a "flavor of the day". I chose the butter pecan with wafflecone. Very good custard. The only real lacking part of this whole deal was the lack of flavors, but if you are a regular, that shouldn't be a problem. I appreciate the fact that it is all homemade (even the wafflecone) and if they offered more than the "flavor of the day" I'd bump it to 5 stars. Definitely a place to come back to though, but may walk rather than run. ;0 -

I don't think frozen custard is sweeping Seattle which is a good thing because I don't want places like this to get too crowded. Alas, I fear it is too late.
Hands down, the best and most creative place in Seattle to get frozen custard. -

It's great stuff. I first had my first Frozen Custard in Granville, Ohio last summer. I was so impressed with it's creamy texture so different than soft serve ice cream and not as dense as ice cream.
I'm glad that Old School Frozen Custard came to Seattle. I had the Mountain Blackberry the first time I went in. The berries actually tasted fresh and the flavor combo was really good. Today I had chocolate, the best chocolate cone I've ever had! The homemade waffle cones are great tasting because they're thin. Unfortunately it dripped big time out of the end.
Hot dogs are great except I didn't like the neon green pickle relish it looks fake. Irving's Red Hots in Sun Valley are still the best hot dogs but these take a close second. -
Review from Jen B.
I am not satisfied, no siree! Pretty good as far as taste goes, but the selection wasn't the greatest if you aren't a "sweet" person. I don't want all that junk in my ice cream, this should be reserved for Dairy Queen Blizzards.
I had a vanilla shake, my friend the banana. I also had a scoop of vanilla in a waffle cone. This is where I would say that they're great, the cone was fresh, hot and with a hint of cinnamon. Too bad their vanilla wasn't more like their cones...I'd go back.
I really felt like they were missing something special: flavors that weren't crowded with chunks of candy bars? -

Two words...Muddy Buddy.
Peanut butter, brownie, chocolate sauce, whipped cream, frozen custard...share this with someone or you'll hate yourself. Nice way to top off a dinner at Spinasse.
The Muddy Buddy is a meal replacement.Listed in: The $6 dinner

I have FALLEN in LOVE.
Why do they not have this in the Bay Area!
Frozen custard is BOMB!
+ It's like a cross between butter, cream, sugar, silk, and ... heaven.
Take your time with this stuff, and the best thing is that is doesn't melt as fast!
+ The decor fits the name perfectly, they have a fun flavor calendar so you know what's coming up.
- I just wish the lady that served us was as sweet as the frozen custard... a little stand-offish, but maybe she had a long day =/
- Beware, they charge for extra spoons -
Review from Sheila L.
I never ever had frozen custard before.. until I came to Old School. :) It was highly recommended to me by my good friend, ann w. so since I was in the area I took advantage of going there. First time I got overwhelmed with all their choices so I settled for a old-fashioned root beer float (my fav!). I know.. so boring but I didn't know which combo I craved the most at the time so I knew I'll be back.
Second time going back was just past week where I had a dealpop coupon for $16 worth of yummy goodness! So going in I knew I had to buy two of their pints. Choosing was the hard part... so ended up with tiramisu and cookies&creme. Then to top it off I also chose one of their combos with brownies and their well-known vanilla custard and hot fudge all over. Mmmm it was soooo good!! Their vanilla custard is my fav by far. So nice and creamy.
I tried out the pints I chose and both were also really good!! -

There are plenty of places in Capital Hill to get your fix of sugar and Old School Frozen Custard is a real stand out spot. While most custard places change their flavor of the day every two days, Old School steps it up and changes it daily with tons of inventive and unique flavors. Plus, if you miss your flavor they have a freezer full of well priced cartons ready to go of past flavors. Anyway I got the brownie, peanut butter sundae (I forget the proper name) and it was absolutely to die for! Cute shop and really quality custard!

Frozen custard...you don't see this very often, and it's a shame. But I'm glad it caught my eye whilst strolling through Capitol Hill!
The chocolate is silky smooth heaven. I got mind served in one of their waffle cones. Best...waffle cone.....ever! Enough crunch and enough chewy. Delish!
Stop by...eat some custard...thank me later. -
Review from Leah B.
What else can be said about this place? It's yummy, it's frozen, it's custardy!
We never seem to try their different flavors, but just stick to the pre-designed sundays. I swear we've tried them all.
Keep doin' what you're doin' guys!! -
Review from V d.
Delicious and great selection.
The sundaes are expensive, but the regular cone is cheap: 2.75 for a single scoop waffle cone. My husband's fave sundae is the peanut butter/fudge/brownie sundae. Their sundae's beat the pants of Molly Moon's.
Looking forward to the flavour of the day every day! -

Whoa....this place restored my belief that Frozen custard can live up to the hype! I've always been really disappointed with Peaks, so my expectations were low coming here...but I have to say, I LOVE IT!
Great flavor, great texture, nice topping, clean, friendly atmosphere make his place a gem on the Hill.
Check out the flavor of the day board to decide what days not to miss! -

The best frozen treat in Seattle, hands down.
With the chocolate and vanilla standards plus a different "flavor of the day" every day, you're sure to find something you like. Change up the pace with on the their sundaes or by adding some candy or fruit goodies.
The staff can be hit or miss but are usually happy to answer questions and give you a taste of the "fod" before you commit. -

Old School really is old school. They only offer chocolate, vanilla, and one flavor of the day, which was Banana Cream Pie when I was there. The idea is that you get one of their fantastical creations of sundae, split, etc, but I dont tend to like all that sweetness and prefer my ice cream with, well, other ice cream.
Though all of the flavors were good, they were just too much like regular soft serve ice cream for me to warrant choosing this place over gelato or one of the other fantastic ice cream places in the area.
The servers were sweet, if a little slow, and the atmosphere is welcoming and clean, if not much else. Certainly try it, but don't expect it to change your world. -

Best. Frozen. Treat. in. Seattle.
1. Creamiest, silkiest, most melt-in-your-mouth treat you'll get in Seattle.
2. Hybrid between soft serve ice cream + gelato + custard in terms of texture.
3. Awesome "flavor of the day" flavors. Changes on an almost daily basis. E.g., Cafe Vitta coffee, cherry vanilla, Oreo, Reese's caramel, Hawaiin coconut, etc.
4. Awesome prices. Just $3 for a single scoop.
5. Toppings. Lots of toppings.
OMG, so good. -

I prefer Old School Custard to Molly Moon's hands down.
Sure the flavors they offer may not be as daring as Molly Moon's but the flavors they do have are fantastico.
I have enjoyed their root beer float - high quality root beer and super creamy vanilla custard - DEEEElicious. My boyfriend enjoyed the sundae with the shots of espresso. He dug it for sure since he is a true coffee fiend.
I love the pints to take home too, my favorite being the cherry cheesecake. Oh man was that something nice to come home to over the course of a few days. I was so proud I made the pint last 4 days! GO ME!
I really would like to try one of their pies since they keep calling to me from the case "Eat me, Stephanie! Celebrate the fact it's Thursday and EAT ME!" but I have managed to say no for now - mainly because I already have a cup of custard in my hands and my brain can't handle that much stimuli. Talk to the pie or eat my custard? Wait, is that even a legit question?! Eat the custard and shut up, brain. I bet those pies are good though. If I ever do get one, I will be sure to update my review.
I enjoy the laid back atmosphere, the good flavors you can recognize (cheesecake, chocolate peanut butter, etc.) and the good and creamy custard. Just check out their flavor calendar on their site and plan your visit on your favorite flavor day. (I am already making the eyes at you, Banana Cream Pie day. Be ready...) -

Best Frozen Custard I've ever eaten! This is way better than a lot of frozen yogurt places like Blissberry and Red Mango. I really recommend it to anyone looking for a really good frozen dessert!
