Review from Tony L.
My girlfriend and I just got back from a long trip to China, and were starving at 11 PM. Since most restaurants around the area were closed, we lucked out and found this place in a hidden strip mall and decided to try it.
We were pleasantly surprised at the food and the value that you can get here. We both ordered a dinner special (12.99) that included 3 pieces of nigiri, miso soup, and a bento box full of either chicken or beef teriyaki, 3 pieces of shrimp tempura, 2 gyoza, a small salad, and some agedashi tofu with spicy sauce. I could do without the tofu. but everything else was good. We also ordered the grilled salmon heads (6.99), which we thought was the best part of the meal.
We will definitely be back to this restaurant, especially since they are open until midnight each day (free wifi as well). -

I waited for 1h30 for my food that never came. I just left. If they didn't have the Red Dragon Roll, I probably won't be back.

When I go to Japanese restaurants, it seems like the menus are all the same. But one way to differentiate them is by the "special rolls" selection of sushi. When I saw something called the "Crazy Boy" on Okoman's menu (and I was with my crazy boy), I knew I was in for something good.
The menu contained a few other surprises, like a goma-ae roll and gyoza soup. We also ordered a selection of reasonably priced nigiri sushi (~$1-3). Unfortunately, we were in for a long wait for the sushi, as the server warned us when we sat down that the sushi chef was a bit backed up. I really appreciated that kind of proactive service, though - so many other places would just let you sit there with your tea and appetizers wondering if the chef had to go fishing or something.
I liked the idea of gyoza soup - like a wonton soup, but with gyozas - but the reality was that the big dumplings floating in broth were difficult and messy to eat. And my husband couldn't even eat his because the soup turned out to be full of his culinary nemesis: onions! In two forms! I probably wouldn't order that again.
The sushi, when it came, was very good - big pieces of melt-in-your-mouth fish on overwhelmed slabs of rice. They didn't put wasabi on the rice, however, so you have to DIY if you like your sushi with a kick. The goma-ae maki was a nicely executed concept, one I don't think I've seen before, but It makes perfect sense.
Finally, the Crazy Boy arrived! I know the picture doesn't look like much, as my camera phone isn't the greatest, but they were delicious: spicy tuna and asparagus wrapped up together, deep fried, and topped with creamy peanut and wasabi sauces. Picky-eating husband says it's the best thing he ever ate, and I have to agree that it is indeed a special roll.
For a local sushi spot hidden in the corner of an old strip mall, Okoman was hoppin'. But you hardly notice because the high-walled, private wooden booths keep it chillin', plus you can lazily push the Red Button to call for a server. Who by the way, seem to be run off their feet, but are unfailingly cheerful and efficient. Good sushi, great system. I'll definitely be back - and next time look out, because there's also a Viking Roll.Listed in: Date Night, Irraishaimase!, Star for a day

I am pretty fussy about my sushi places I go eat personally this place was ok. Rolls were average and I was not wholly impressed by there sushi. The waiter was trying to get my friend as I to eat a California roll sadly I really dislike them or I am sure I would have been great it seemed to be there specialty... All my friends said amazing things about this place I think I would have been more impressed if I had not heard all the hype but again it was ok I would go back for lunch or some thing but not really an out of my way place to eat

Ok seriously ... obsessed with the Red Dragon roll. It's three of my favourite rolls all in one: spicy tuna, prawn tempura and crab with unagi sauce. How can you go wrong? I can eat a whole one to myself and then some. Our server recommended it to my friends and I one day for lunch when we weren't sure what to get. After that we have gone at least once a week if not two times because we can't get enough. Sometimes the service is slow unless you get Joe. Things go really quickly when he's there. I've never been there for dinner but I imagine it's probably just as busy as lunch. Weird location next to Lougheed Mall but the food is yummy, well-priced and the atmosphere is fun. I also like pushing the table button but I think that has more to do with my maturity level than anything else. Mmmm red dragon roll....
