I was shocked and saddened to discover that I have not yet written a review of Oil City, That changes today, yelpers.
I haven't been here super recently but I can tell you that every time I have partied here, it's been magical. No, that's not true. Let's back up. The first one or two nights I went here were horrible. A combo of Top 40 and country music? A crowded, gross, sweaty, sticky dance floor and bar? Yuck. Who would think that's fun?
Really drunk people, that's who. Y'know what my problem was? I didn't drink enough the first couple times I was there. But once I figured out the problem and made the necessary changes, Oil City became my favourite spot.
It's an awesome, sweaty, sticky, fantastical mess and I love it. A bar in the ladies bathroom with cheap shots all night? I think that's the greatest idea anyone has ever come up with.
I know it might not be everyone's cuppa tea but Oil City knows what it is and it does it much better than any other bar in the city. -

People are always so quick to bash Oil City, but honestly, I like it there. I love to dance, and the dance floor is always packed. It doesn't matter what you label yourself as (guido, cowboy, prep, punk, whatever), you will fit in at Oil City, because it is a mashup of everyone.
I always run into people I know here. I always have a great time. The music is always pretty decent with top 40 mixed with country music, and everyone is always super-enthusiastic about the Cadillac Ranch... which just makes it that much more fun. -

Say what you want about Oil City, but I have never been there and not had a blast!
There are 5 bar locations (and some have more than one side). The classiest one is the one in the ladies washroom. It's easy to get over the fact that it's in the washroom becase the shots there are always super cheap. Plus- it gives you something to do when your drunk friends are peeing for the seventh time or puking.
The dance floor is big, the music is loud, and as someone who loves country music, it's great to have something to two-step to every once and a while.
They also have some of the best birthday packages around, which are free unless you want the limo. They're also pretty flexible with these if you call and talk to them! -

I've had a good time at Oil City the few times I've been here but every weekend it seems like there is cop cars with their lights flashing parked outside. I have never witness a fight or any altercation inside the club so I'm not sure what that's all about.
It doesn't deter anyone from going to Oil City though because the line is always massive and you would be wise to get here very early if you want to get in. The inside is really big, surprisingly big as is the dance floor. The crowd here is rowdy and ready to do the damn thing. They play country music and pop so if you're not very country you don't have to worry you will not feel out of place. -

This "country" bar is not exclusively country; it does cater to the pop-loving-dirty-dancing group too. This place is usually pretty full on weekends, and can be a pretty good place to come and party.
There are two bars here, so you don't get trapped at one waiting to get a vodka seven. This place can get pretty rowdy, and it is pretty big, so large groups are great in Oil City.
The other good thing about this bar it its proximity to a bunch of other bars on Jasper Ave. If it is a night of bar hopping you're looking for, stop here! It is a few steps from The Bank Ultra Lounge, Vinyl Retro Dance Lounge, and Fluid Lounge.
Turn up the music, get in line and have a great time at Oil City. -

When they first opened Oil City, I couldn't believe how big this place was. I wondered how they'd fill it up, but sure enough the crowds came - in rowdy hoards. I've been here once, and it was a colourful honky-tonk blur. I had a blast, from what I recall. It was packed, we elbowed our way up to the bar for some cold ones (several times), and flew around the dance floor, two-stepping to the best of our abilities. I remember knowing some of the more popular country tunes, and a few of the classics. The music's loud, the dance floor's huge and if you want to let loose and get rowdy, but don't feel like the crowds of Whyte Ave., then this Jasper Ave. party place is a great option. You'll want to avoid the line-up, so go early, wear a cowboy hat or boots, liquor-up and give 'er.

Not bad, its a good bar, however the door staff is very rude and the area is filled with bums. Due to the nature of clubs, and the fact that this one block has 3 clubs, there is very little parking and a lot of policing. The bar is made primarily of wood, so there is a very strong "saloon" smell to it, this is furthered by the large group of younger bar-goers in the club (18-20) which means spills and vomit. However the "country" atmosphere is always a lot of fun for those who like it. So if this is your style of place, by all means, go have a good time!
