Review from Joolie T.
my friends have been talking about Ohana's Happy Hour for years. i'm talking... YEARS. i never once came here during college or even my frequent visits back to Seattle. well, i finally had a chance to check this place out! during normal hours, though...
i'll be truthful. i wasn't impressed by the menu. i was really expecting a vast menu of comforting home-style Hawaiian dishes-- but it was mostly sushi, chicken fingers and oh! Loco Moco. at least there was Spam Musubi?
i wish i came here during Happy Hour. i didn't drink a drop of alcohol, i was joined by 4 children and their parents, my best friends. maybe i didn't get wasted and have a cheap meal or cheap/fun drinks... but it was quite enjoyable being here with a family. the servers provided cute shell necklaces, coloring sheets and crayons. it was all very sweet and nice. i really enjoyed the service.
some of our food arrive later than others- we were gifted with complimentary sodas for the wait. again, sweet. the chicken katsu with mac salad was good- but the katsu sauce was too salty and intense. the Loco Moco was bland and very boring.
i vow to come here with no children in tow (love you, though!!!!) and try out Ohana's as all my friends describe it as their FAVORITE happy hour spot. i'll give it a whirl. -

Overall - I've been coming here for years and love the place. I've come here for lunch, happy hour, and late night drinks. Today was a different story.
Service - Horrible. We got there and he put us in a booth that had water from the last customers that left. There are hook on the side of the booths for coats and jackets.
We had one hook full of things that swung over inside of the booth. This would ok of the bar was full, but there were only 2 other customers there so I'm guessing it was the waiter's stuff.
When we were ready to order the waiter was too busy eating to come by to check on us. Another customer had to look for him to grab his check.
After we asked for our check at the end of the meal he didn't ask about our food or even to wonder why I barely touched my food.
Food - The microwaved edamame was Soggy and there were pieces of noodles in it. Wtf? I took a picture and upload it to yelp.
My wife's food, katsu was decent. My loco moco was gross. Old soggy rice, burnt burger patty that was bitter and a over cooked fried egg. I can normally power through a meal if it's at least edible. This was gross. Didn't complain because I didn't want to wait for another plate.
Just chalked this one up to lessons learned and just won't eat there again. Would have given it 1 star, but the night scene there is still Decent. I'll still go for drinks, just not food. -

love love love this place! The decor is like a tiki bar, lots of wood and cute christmas lights err'where. Food kicks ass! Try the crunchy dynamite, it's the best sushi roll I've ever had in my life. It comes rolled in coconut and deep fried, then drizzled with a yummy orangey tasting sauce. Also they have real wasabi here, not that weak americanized stuff some places serve. Karaoke? check. nice strong drinks? check!
try the strawberry sake margarita. See ya in Belltown! -

Review from Melody P.
My buddy Marc invited me to tag along. He mentioned that this is the spot where some of the Yelp fellows hang out. I was very interested in what this place was like.
Location:
The restaurant is in Beltown. Parking is not good in general. However, we went there on a Monday night around 8. Therefore, I was able to get a free parking just around the corner from the restaurant.
Decor:
It's a Hawaiian/Japanese restaurant. The decor is more like a Hawaiian restaurant for sure. There are sushi bar on one side and drink bar and seating area on the other side. It's very tropical.
Food:
We had veggie tempura, spider roll, Kahlua pork, and fried tofu. I enjoyed the veggie tempura, especially the sauce. However, some of the veggie was cut too thin, even so, it felt uncooked. Spider roll was ok. I really liked the soft-shelf crab. However, I felt the rice in the roll was not properly prepared, too wet and too soft for sushi roll. The Kahlua pork was really good. I really like the smokey flavor.
Service:
Great service! The lady was very patient, mellow, and she was not very pushy about our order.
One thing I didn't try was their drinks. If I do come back again, I would like to try their tropical style drinks and more Hawaiian dishes. -

Loved this place!
First of all, fun decor around. Awesome servers who are fun and want to make sure that you have a great time.
The drinks are delicious. Mai tai is my favorite. So good.
And their sushi is GREAT! First of all, it came out so fast. Refreshing since some places take forever. The sushi itself was yummy, flavorful and unique.
Check this place out, its a keeper. -

I love Sushi so much I told my parents that I believe the mailman was Japanese!
Sushi is my favorite food and Ohana makes the Sushi eating experience that much more enjoyable. Food is great, service is great, atmosphere is great. Try the eel! Yumm.
When in Seattle, try Ohana. -
Review from Chelsea J.
I'd heard of this place awhile ago and decided that next time I was in Seattle, I'd check it out. I love Japanese food, I love Hawaii (and Hawaiian-style food) so it seemed like this would be my dream restaurant. The restaurant was very nicely decorated with all things Japanese and Hawaiian, and we got a seat right away, which was great.
We ordered:
Belltown roll
Macaroni salad
Tuna poke with taro chips
Seaweed salad
2 x 750mL bottles of Sapporo
Sake
The food was good, but really, nothing extraordinary. Being from Vancouver, I've been spoiled with excellent choices for sushi, and having recently been to the Poke Stop in Hawaii...well...the poke at Ohana didn't compare. The sauce was a bit too sweet. Food presentation could have been a bit nicer: rather than plain white cafeteria-style plates, they could use Japanese -style dinnerware. Uwajimaya in the International District has an excellent selection!
But, the cost was inexpensive, the staff was friendly, the music was good and overall, we enjoyed ourselves. -
Review from Inna B.
I've seen a friend check in here a lot and I love sushi, so one night (many months ago) I decided to finally try Ohana.
I got one of the sushi combinations that sounded good, and I thought the nigiri was... pretty good. The pieces were very big, which is something I tend to both like and dislike. I wasn't impressed with/by my dinner and will probably never consider this one of my favorite Belltown spots, but I'm fine with going to Ohana with a group someday.
The one annoying part of the experience was that the waitress did not bring me a pen when she returned my bill/card, so after waiting several minutes and not seeing any employees anywhere, I ended up grabbing a pen from the hostess area. -

Love Ohana's. Closest thing to home that I can get to in Seattle (even with cheesy Hawaiian decor). Maybe because Freddy's from Guam too :-) . Service is great at the bar or a table. Friends who don't eat sushi, love Da Kine. And I don't mind the Happy Hour pricing til 7.
The only weird thing is that it seems the busiest night here is on a Wednesday. I guess it depends on the entertainment they have playing. -

I am hooked on a few things here:
Lime in da coconut : Cocktail, delicious but sneaks up on ya! (eat first):)
Half baked: California roll topped with moist bakes salmon chunks YUM
Maguro sashimi
Lumpia: I don't eat lumpia from many places outside of my own kitchen, but the recipe here is darn good.
Overall, you have got to try this place, good music, fun environment, especially on Thursday or Friday night. -
Review from Ryan W.
Came here last night after my last final to enjoy some drinks and food. It was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, even more so than other clubs/lounges/restaurants in the Belltown area. Ohana has a nice "Island" vibe with friendly staff and good music playing! Island music definitely a refreshing alternative from main stream "pop/rap."
The food is decent - not the best Hawaiian food I"ve had. The gravy on my wife's Loco Moco tasted like powder mix and the rice wasn't cooked fully - it was still slightly firm in the middle. My agedeshi tofu I had wasn't too bad. I would have like a little more crunchy outer later, but it wasn't too bad. We also had spicy tuna hand roll and spicy salmon handroll, both of which were tasty and might have been the best food of the night. We didn't have any other sushi, but they do have quite a large menu for that ranging from nigiri to hand rolls and even poke!
The drinks are nice and strong and they have a sweet HH special on a Strawberry + Sake Margarita... in a pitcher! It was huge (sharmed among 3) and tasty... not as strong as I'd like :)
Wednesdays is also when they have a live band which played local music and rocked! Live bands are always a huge plus. -

-1 star only because it is a bitch to park around this area... and expensive if you can't park on the street!
My homegirl put me on to the "Crunchy Dynamite Roll" and now I have to order that everytime I hit this place up! It is no longer on the menu, but they still make it for you! It's a california roll, tempura battered w/ bits of coconut and drizzled with some type of sweet syrup.... you will not be disappointed.... that shit hits
Happy Hour here is great! They have a pretty good selection of food & drinks for decent prices so I definitely recommend it! (I like the spam musubi, agedashi tofu, and the sushi rolls) Their specilty mixed drinks are also really good too!
Another plus is that this place usually has a live dj spinnin some cuts and they have nights like "trivia night" & "karaoke night"... it's a nice atmosphere for young adults (or older if you don't mind it being hella loud lol) -

I have been to Ohana few times. I like how laid back and cozy this place feels. I am a fan of their cocktail and tropical drinks.
The Service isn't great most the time. The last time I was there we were sited in a really bad corner since it was packed. It took a while for them to take our order. Once we ordered we waited more than we should, that wasn't fun but we still had a great time. Nothing impressive but still a cool sushi spot. -

This place is close to my crib, but I rarely go. I had the katsu the first time and it was ok. The katsu is at the level of any teriyaki joint. I can make way better katsu at home. Just went last night for happy hour, and it kinda sucked. If you want happy hour sushi I recommend going across the street to umi sake house. The vibe at umi sucks, but sushi is good, and for happy hour prices great.

My review is on their sushi ONLY
Which happens to be AMAZING by the way. The quality of the sushi here is perfection. I used to be a hostess here, so I can tell you with confidence that the food is clean, delish, and made with love.
My favorite rolls are:
Crunchy Roll with eel sauce on top, just ask, you won't regret it!
Spider Roll-So many amazing flavors that work so well together! Very filling.
Make a reservation. Ohana gets busy really quickly, plus you can request where you would like to be sat! Win win. -

Listen, I was drunk AND hungry....yet none of the food hit the spot. A prereq for all things amazing that is about to enter my belly right?! No.
My party and I ordered 3 apps, and all our own entrees. My burger was DRY. Really? How hard is it to make a burger? The spam musubis lacked flavor...not to mention it was six bucks for two small ass musubis. I've always wanted to try loco moco, but after losing my loco-inity....all I can say is yuck because it tasted to like thawed burger patties with bland gravy on top.
I'm not even picky with food, I'm a thick ass Asian woman. I love food! But NOTHING is like getting full off of mediocre food. Random food in a random place. This was also the second time food has sucked for me here. The server was nice though, from what I can tell over the LMFAO music blasting in my ear. Pricey, not good, not a great dance floor. -
Review from Rusty S.
This place is a kind of a Tiki Bar/Asian Fusion/Hawaiian/Japanese/restaurant/night club, all in a fairly small space on 1st Ave in downtown Seattle.
When a several friends and I decided to go out for dinner on a recent Saturday evening we wound up at Ohana, not because anyone recommended it but because it was nearby and had an open table large enough for our group. Browsing through some of Yelps after the fact I can see that peoples' opinions are all over the place on this one; I guess mine falls somewhere in the middle.
The food here was OK: between us we tried a variety appetizers, sushi, and entrees and everyone was in agreement that none of it was really outstanding or really terrible. Just OK. We had something of a sticker shock when the bill came around, though. I think the regular menu prices here are just too high for what you get, plus you're stuck with an automatic 18% gratuity with a party of 6 or more regardless of the service you receive (the service we received, like everything else, was just OK-- kinda slow and a couple of minor mix-ups). The Top 40 Hits blasting out of speakers over our heads made for a less than optimal dining experience as well.
Several of the reviews here on Yelp mention Ohana's happy hour. This looks like it'd be a fun place to stop by for a couple of cheap drinks and appetizers, but I doubt I'd return for dinner. -
Review from Johnny W.
It's been, perhaps, almost a year since I went to Ohana, in search of some sustenance after another night of drinking with two of my friends. Among the dishes we ordered were agedashi tofu, spam musubi, their robata beef, and, of course, some beers to wash it all down.
The food, for the most part, was lackluster: the agedashi was made using good tofu, but was not as fried as one would expect, and was lacking in flavor; the robata beef was a letdown, despite being the one that was recommended to us; meanwhile, the spam musubi was actually reasonably tasty.
During happy hour, about five plates and two beers came out to around $23. So if you're in the mood for some cheap eats and/or musubi, come on by. The only other thing worth mentioning about the restaurant itself was that the music they played was far too loud (especially for how empty it was at the time), forcing us to sit in the other room in attempts to mitigate our hearing loss. -

I had low expectations when I went into Ohana's for a last minute dinner. They still managed to chock me. I ordered the seared Tuna salad. The dry, stale tuna came on top of a small bed of lettuce sloppily mixed with a generous amount of what seemed like a thousand island dressing. Stay away.

Review from Jason F.
Who says youth is wasted on the young!? This is a place where the youth hang out to have cocktails and dig on some Japanese food. It's a combo of a cool bar and Japanese restaurant. If you want a straight up Japanese restaurant, you'd probably want to try someplace like Mineki in the International District. But, if you want a great location with good cocktails and some fun, head to Ohana.
The restaurant itself is pretty open, and they always seem to be able to fit you somewhere to sit down and eat pretty quickly. The bar is a takeback to Gillian's Island with bambo and a grass roof. The bartenders are laid back, but get you your drinks quickly.
This place is always solid and a great place to start or end your evening in Downtown Seattle. -

Standard Hawaiian fare - good, cheap HH option if you're in Belltown and want something casual, quick, hassle-free. Rolls are decent.

Review from Bud F.
If you are or really love Polynesian/Hawaiian food or are mainly drinking, sure go, but don't bother if you are even thinking you want good Japanese food.
The menu didn't have much Japanese food on it and was dominated by mainly Hawaiian choices (things like Loco Moco and Spam Musubi, which are fine in their own way). No problem with that, just realize this when coming in.
We shared a gyoza appetizer, I had a shrimp tempura bento and she had sushi. My bento had ONE, count it, ONE shrimp, that's it. It was small and not too young in the tooth either. The batter was mainly soggy, nothing special at all. It came with potato salad instead of mac salad, which was completely generic, could have come from any Kroger's, same with the slaw. My wife's sushi was a bit... off. Just a bit, but that's enough with sushi. The gyoza were pretty good.. for all six of them in the serving (probably the smallest portion I've ever gotten... I've gotten 8, but really like to get 10).
The service was friendly, though a bit dizzy and the prices were quite cheap. So, OK, not a rip off or anything like that, maybe even a place to get lots of cheap food, but really, don't get confused, come here for Hawaiian, but not for Japanese, because that's just not the right choice. -
Review from T F.
Seattle, WA
This place is okay - but falls short of awesome. The service is always friendly, but it can be tragically slow. My friend's beer arrived 15 minutes after she ordered it. The menu is large and varied, which probably makes it hard for them to do everything well. If you are craving island-style fusion food, it's a good place to go. But if you want the best sushi that Seattle has to offer, this is not it.
The music is really loud most days, but Sundays seem to be much quieter. Serves alcohol, but seems to be child friendly in the dining area. I would recommend this place for a cheap, boozy group, but not at all for a special date night.
The crunchy dynamite roll is pretty good, if you like sweet sushi. Super casual, zorries & t-shirts & ballcaps are fine. -
Review from Isy E.
The poke is sooooooooo yummy. I liked the sushi that we had as well, though I can't remember what we got. A roll with tuna on top, and a non-roll with rice and crunchy krab in the middle. I like it. Tofu agedashi was really tasty as well!
The service is kind of spotty. The waitresses were definitely really nice, but they took a while to notice us, and kind of left us alone for a while after we'd gotten our appetisers. Not bad service, just a little slow. It wasn't a really busy night, either.
The music was great. I really liked the ambiance. We came in after 9, so we needed to show our IDs even though we weren't having any drinks, just as a heads up. I'll probably go back! -

I love this place!!! The atmosphere is fun and relaxing, a great place to have a drink and you have to try a musubi!! I can definitely see myself becoming a regular here.

Review from Daren D.
For a cool, overcast night, this is a nice spot for a Hawaiian-Asian Fuzion HH. The spam musubi was just right, moist gyoza, nice Firefly tea cocktail and goodicious veggie handroll. Gorman gave me a taste of this one hot sake... ugggh, never again! That stuff creates a stomach black-hole sensation to me and almost immediately makes me starving---whether or not the fact I hadn't eaten, yet, affected that, I don't know, but man(!). And it's a pretty cool, laid-back place, too...
...and then there's the bathroom - whattapieceofwork that sonuvabitch is! There should be some sort of futuristic digital touchwall where you can electronically tag the walls, lock them for a week or so to observe, erase and refresh with new art! In the bottom toolbar, you could also view past epic pieces of uniquetivity! =D

Probably one of my favorite bars in the Seattle area. I used to go every Friday & Saturday night and it was always a good time. Sunday is karaoke night which is pretty fun but there is no way you'll catch up there singing. Love Ohana, good people, good vibes, good music!

Good place. Happy Hour is good though the drinks could be stronger, can't beat their $3 apps! I was born and raised in Hawai'i so their food did not impress me at all but it was still good. Atmosphere is great, staff is great. Their banana cream pie is the best thing I've eaten here, so it's must.

Ohana was pretty good. My son and i stopped in for lunch and had some pork katsu. It came out lightning fast but was kinda dry. Service was great and it's a cool place. Will be back for HH sometime....

Happy Hour = good food, weak drinks. A group of us all agreed: the happy hour cocktails had little to no liquor. Can't complain about the $3 apps tho. Great deal for food. 3 stars...

All I can say is CHEAP sake....
That's pretty much all this place is good for....
Food is decent. My friends literally said that they thought that the spam musubi I make is better than the one here. So true. The rice falls apart the second you try to pick it up.. and the spam is fake char'd to make it look like its been grilled.
They actually changed up the handrolls- very disappointing.
I ordered a spicy tuna handroll and they brought out a regular spicy tuna roll :(
However....the Sake- you cannot beat.. pretty dang cheap and it'll get you a good buzz...
Music is TOO loud for a little place that is NOT a club.. but music selection was good- gotta love the oldies :)
Will be back for cheap sake! -

Whaddup seattlelites and tourists, if you trying to have a good time, go home, go to your family, that is, go to ohana. fun environment and great staff, full sushi bar and restaurant with happy hour makes this place more than just a hawaii/japanese-themed bar. get their hand rolls and agedashi tofu; they also have lot's of signature sushi rolls and other cooked dishes. also, karoake on sundays and various live music events throughout the week and weekends. ohana means family, and family means no one gets left behind.

The food is very good but it is a little too pricey for my liking. I will say their Sashimi plate was a real delight-but their portions were a little stingy. I will say Ohana is one of the better Japanese restaurants in Seattle. I've been to a couple others and they were just okay considering the high price. At least this place serves great food.

I've been here for happy hour and rice a few times and its ok.
They don't serve food after midnight which was too bad for my hungry Halloween-celebrating self this weekend. They also kept the door open. It wasn't that crowded so even all the way back in the bar I was freezing and didn't enjoy it.
It ok but I'd rather go to Umis for sushi and elsewhere than a tiny crowded bar in the back for drinks.
