Cheap, big portion sushi. Spacious seats and tv (for canucks game!)

    Fits my student's budget.

    I am happy!

One of the more pleasant surprises on Main St.  I usually 'burger' it out on Main, but I came here because the parking meter in front of the restaurant was paid in full so I already scored on meter parking and well, I figure I give this place a try.

I have tried many Ramen/Sushi hybrid places but this one guarantees you full by the end of it.  I ordered a chicken teriyaki don and I thought I would be getting one of these smaller bowls but instead they served it up in a large bowl for $6.95.  The chicken was tender and there was enough teriyaki sauce to cover the large bowl.  Unfortunately, I ordered more sushi rolls on the side and ended up taking most of the rolls home.  I just couldn't finish it all. Good fresh taste and the quantity can't be beat at this price.

Got $22 worth of take out sushi from this place - 2 specialty rolls and a negitoro roll. Given the abundance of sushi in this city, there was nothing special or stand-out about it.  Rice was warm, which was sort of a turn off. Price was on par with most of the other places in this city.  It was fine in a pinch but I won't be back.

My husband and I order from Ogenki quite regularly and are usually very pleased. I wish some of the sushi rolls were a little bit smaller size wise but other than that it's always fresh and flavorful. Delivery is quick and the service is friendly. More vegetarian specialty rolls would be great to see. The tropical roll, scallop magma roll, roll in roll, and mango roll are all very good!

I didn't like the view of our waitress pulling handfuls of Ramen out of a sink with yellow rubber dish gloves and plopping it onto a scale, but since I ordered sushi I overlooked that and enjoyed some appetizer sashimi while we waited for our lunch.

The sashimi was really good, nice and tender, and the sushi rolls were alright but I wouldn't have ordered the sunshine/summer (?) roll if they showed in the menu that it had that weird japanese mayo on it. I don't eat mayo ever, in any form, so I had to wipe it off. It was one of the only rolls pictured that didn't have that gunk on it but it came to our table with it and since I was famished I just wiped it off.

Service was decent but the floor was dirty and the place seemed unkept. I'm giving 2 and a half stars. I expect more.

This is my family's regular go-to place for delivery sushi, and for the most part, we're glad.

The service is friendly and accommodating. I'm allergic to shellfish, and my mum is celiac, and they always ensure our orders are safe. (yes, we are a difficult family!) The prices are good and the delivery is prompt.

8/10 times the sushi is delicious and fresh, and we devour it ravenously. However, some nights it's just not up to scratch unfortunately. It's certainly not bad, but it's a bit disappointing.

We usually just get the Maki Rolls and some of the Nigiri Sushi, so I cannot speak to the other dishes. However, the one time we ordered Bento Boxes the portions were generous and the food was good.

I would recommend this place for anyone in the neighbourhood who is looking for a sushi delivery restaurant that is fairly consistent and has friendly service.

Starving, we were craving ramen. The closest ramen shop was Ogenki. I should have known better. The place was clearly Chinese run, the lady at the door had a strong Chinese accent.

I ordered a Tonkotsu ramen. As my stomach growled and twisted, the wait seemed forever. I was really hungry!

After 15 minutes or so, it finally came. The first thing I noticed: there was no steam coming from the soup. I took a sip, and it was just lukewarm. That's never a good sign. The soup was quite MSG-ish, noodle texture was decent, and the char-siu was ok.

Definitely go somewhere else for ramen, and don't let hunger pains lure you to this place like the mistake we made.

This place strives for excellence but it's not quite there yet and I'll tell you why.

The whole staff is genuinely happy and kind, ready to make you happy. Check.

    Menu has good variety. Check.

I ordered miso soup, sockeye salmon sashimi, one Alaska roll (smoked salmon on top) and one tuna nigiri sushi piece.

The server was really nice but didn't write anything down. Okay if you can remember that's fine...but she didn't.

When I had come in the restaurant it wasn't that busy but by the time I ordered there was a flood of customers that came in and boom the servers are rushing around.

They brought my sashimi very quick, then came the rest. The roll was huge, definitely a mouth full per bite but the bad news was the tuna nigiri. It had this fishy, pee taste that you only imagine when fish is going bad. I let the server know and I was going to order something completely different but before I had the chance to she insisted to bring another one to try and if it was the same she would take it off the bill. Well, unfortunately it was the same bad taste. It got taken off the bill.

The miso soup was forgotten but I reminded the server and she forgot again. So later I just looked at her nicely and she clued in and I finally got my hot soup. It was meh. Nothing special.

On a good note, the salmon was to die for. It's in season so that must be it. It was cool, firm in texture, and a deep red orange color. The best combination for a melt in your mouth sensation!

I just ordered delivery from here.. I expected the food to be average like every other sushi restaurant owned by Chinese people in Vancouver/ Richmond. Simple bento box with salmon sushi while my bf had a chicken teriyaki don. The salmon was just about to turn brown..NOT even close to fresh! I don't even wana go on about the chicken (fried).. Oh and miso soup.. Saltier than average. The food seemed like it sat out for quite a while before it was delivered. The online website looks very good.. Sadly a convincing lie.

This review is for their ramen.

    Ordered Miso Ramen.

The broth and noodles are the most essential part of a ramen.  They were both lacking in their ramen.  The broth was bland and the noodles tasted and looked like they were frozen.

    I'd rather go somewhere else.

We've been looking for good delivery sushi for awhile now and we are thrilled that we found Ogenki on http://www.yummyweb.com.

We have LOVED it each of the four times we've ordered from there (including once when my picky parents were in town and they also totally loved it and we got to be the favourite children for about 10 minutes). Delivery service is generally pretty fast (for sushi) and the delivery guy is always friendly.

The mango roll in particular is amazing but we've really enjoyed pretty much every roll we've tried (with the exception of the beef teriyaki roll...lettuce has no place in sushi, IMHO), it always tastes pretty fresh and it's not all mayonnaise-y like some other places.

We've really only ordered rolls and yummy gyoza from Ogenki but they have an extensive menu - maybe we'll try something new next time. hahaha - just kidding. Mango roll all the way.

Ogenki is always pretty great. The staff is genuinely friendly, the location is nice enough, and most importantly the food is great. Fantastic vegetarian options! The genki and summer rolls are both excellent choices for the veg. The veg gyoza are also amazing.
They recently expanded next door and now have ramen. Again, they were able to provide a fantastic veggie option with a miso based ramen. So good.

OH, Cheap sushi....how I've missed you so...
Not being in Vancouver for the past three months made me realize how much I missed super cheap but also satisfying sushi.

Food:  Their menu has a lot to offer- the standard rolls, sashimi, nigiri, appetizers (gyoza, agedashi tofu etc.) premium rolls (pricier), udon, tempura, donburi, combos, bento boxes....OH MY!  Two of my friends and I shared a Maple Roll (8 pieces of spicy tuna rolls covered with thinly sliced salmon sashimi and tobiko drizzled with spicy mayonnaise- $7.95), Sushi Combo 3 (6 pieces of California roll, 2 pieces each of salmon, tuna, and ebi nigiri-$9.95) and the "Daily Special" which was just 6 pieces each of yam tempura roll, avocado roll, and california roll- $6.95 (I think).  The Sushi Combo and the Daily Special also came with miso soup!  The sushi was fresh and tasty considering the price.  All the premium rolls look super tasty as well...wished I could have tried them all!

Service:  The two waitresses were super friendly and nice!  The only bad part about this experience was the long wait for our food :( They had a lot of take-out orders and delivery orders so I guess it was hard for them to balance all that sushi making.  So, I would not recommend coming here if you want a quick meal.

Ambiance: Ogenki is a small but pretty cozy restaurant.  Everything looked clean and bright.

Ogenki definitely satisfied my need of cheap and decent sushi!  Give this place a try when you're around!

Okay, it's not possible to get bad wild salmon sashimi right now, so I may be a little too favorable, but damn, that was good.  The mango roll is also very nice.

Service was incredibly friendly, but pretty confused.  That said, it was a great, quick, and filling lunch for $12.  Can't beat that.

My other half and I have been going here for so long that its almost like when Norm walks into Cheers.

We generally order the same items and the Staff realize this, so every now & then we change up an item or two to keep them on their toes. Its funny, if we leave something off the order, they ask if we meant to order it. You know you've been going somewhere for a longtime when....

Ogenki is just a little hole in the wall sushi place, not a fancy dress up sushi joint  - you come here when you need a fix of some decently prepared sushi or sashimi.  Better for take out than dine in.  The folks here aim to please, are very friendly and they give you your food fast.

Negihama, tekka & kappa maki all come in at under $3.00 per.  A decent sized combo (1 tekka maki, 1 sake maki, 2 pcs each of nigiri sake & maguro) is $9.  Bigger maki, like a dragon roll, is only $8.   Even things like tekka don or chirashi are in the $10 range.  With a big family that LOVES to grub on sushi, Ogenki is a big hit with us & the wallet.

You won't find anything super fancy or highly innovative, but if you need a solid sushi fix on Main Street - patronize the nice people at  Ogenki!

Ogenki sushi offers lots of different varieties of sushi, and all at super cheap prices. The sushi is good, definitely worth the price - it always tastes fresh and is delicious. They usually have a special of three rolls (I think California, kappa maki and tuna?) plus miso soup for around six bucks...as someone living in Calgary, that's pretty much as good as it gets.

The atmosphere is fine - a decent place to have lunch. It's nothing fancy, but it's fine. The front end is all windows so it does make for some good people watching. The counter staff are always friendly and I find the service to be pretty quick.

I love the mango roll and its only $4.50, and there are so many delicious speciality rolls you will not be disappointed.  Another wonderful thing - FREE PARKING in the back, you can come in the back door.

No complaints about this place - nice to have the option for some reasonably healthy food for cheap in the neighbourhood.  It's recently been renovated too, and it looks much cuter  inside than it did before.  Sometimes in the summer it smells a little fishy inside.

Nothing especially to rave about, and I'd still rather hit up Zipang (if it isn't full), but Ogenki always meets my expectations.

I was a loyal dream sushi customer up until today when I was sitting and waiting for over 10 minutes for the waitress to come and give me a menu and tea. I was fed up with the crappy service and decided to head over to ogenki where upon my entry, was greeted with a very friendly warm smile, tea and prompt service. When the food came, I was so mad at myself for not giving ogenki a chance previously. The couple next to me were very pleased with their ramen and sushi too. I ordered a green salad and sashimi. The sashimi was fresh and the portion was decent -- not overly huge, not small. Over at Dream Sushi, they wanted to nail me $6.95 for a green salad!!! Here, it is a reasonable $3.95 & their food is all reasonably priced. I think Dream is becoming a bit overconfident in their establishment as I also noticed their prices have gone up since they opened. Overall, I would recommend ogenki over dream taking into consideration the service--it is definitely a night and day comparison!

I come here every week so I really could be updating this review weekly! LOL! I usually just order the same thing but today I decided to try their Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box.. YUUUUM! A very plentiful portion of Chicken Teriyaki and rice, California Roll, Spring Roll  Veg/Prawn tempura and side salad. Very enjoyable, decent portion and I'm already looking forward to next time!

I too wanted to try another place other than Nikkyu, but was kind of disappointed by this place. Great decor, colourful picture menus, but the food and service was just ok. To be fair, I only ordered 2 items, the Ocean Roll (7.95) and appetizer sashimi (3 tuna, 2 salmon, 5.95). The ocean roll came first, and they didn't bother to give me an extra plate to eat off of. The roll was saved by the mayo and teriyaki sauce, but I didn't think it was worth the price. The sashimi was cut into retangular blocks, rather than slices and it was the most bland sashimi I've tasted, like it was frozen for a really long time. I also wish they had made it wild salmon. Overall, I don't think I will be going back.

Ogenki has been my favorite neighbourhood sushi place for a while now. I'm definitely still a fan! The sushi is always fresh and the prices are great, but the service is not up to par! A few of the waitresses are not too friendly, even though I am a regular that comes at least once a week. I would expect some kind of recognition or a little more presonality at least! For that, I'm dropping a star for service.

i have exhausted nikkyu for my sushi delivery and wanted to try some place different..and found this one!  i like that i have options for sushi delivery! =)

was particularly keen on it cause it offered wild salmon don!! yay! beautiful bright red salmon pieces laying on a bed of sushi rice sprinkled with sesame seeds. very clean tasting...although, not the freshest ive tasted. (this came with a free miso soup too! passed this along to my friend since im not a huge fan of it)
also ordered the seaweed salad and mango roll.  the salad was perfect... a little bit on the salty side, but that is normal for this kind of salad.  the mango roll was nothing more than a cali roll with a tiny slice of mango added to it...although good, i was a tad disappointed.  maybe a bigger slice of mango?  or just more mango everywhere?  still, good though.
my friend ordered a dynamite roll and she ate that quick enough to show me that she has approved.
all that plus tip only came to $26!  pretty damn good if you ask me in terms of price and convenience!!

but compared to nikkyu, they aren't as quick (took 45 mins whereas nikkyu always gets here in 30 mins or less).
