Review from Ben B.
I really like Oddjects and its delightful collection of interesting home decor products that real people can actually afford. I've been in a few times and the stock seems to change regularly, making it a new staple on my downtown window-shopping days. Add in the fact that they can make illy beverages at their micro-mini café, and you've got yourself a winner.
My favourite visit had to be when I fell in love with a framed print from a Montréal artist now living in Cape Breton. Unique compared to your average mass-produced wall hangings at most chains, this skyscraper scene has a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cow, floating above the busy cityscape by means of a single red balloon. ADORABLE.
Rather than just tell me to buy it, the store manager (I believe) came over and chatted to me about the art for a good ten minutes. He had one of the other cow pieces and knew all the details about the artist that I shared above. Pretty nice product knowledge for a shop with so many things in it. He definitely sealed the deal with the artist's story, making it a no-brainer addition to my home office.
Oddjects isn't the place where you're either going to love or hate everything...there's so much to see and so many different styles represented that you're bound to find something that strikes your fancy! -

I stopped in today on a whim while passing by and had a great initial experience in this store.
A friendly sales associate immediately welcomed me in, and as I wound my way around the store, I quickly ended up in the sale section. Within 5 minutes I found two new throw pillows that I actually need (I swear!) for my couch. The sales staff helped me out with my choice by casually giving their thoughts while joking around with me. I made a decision, and it was such a nice bonus to get the items on sale, too!
I had no idea that there was a cafe component to the store, but noticing that the products are the illy brand, I'm going to make sure to try a cuppa next time I'm in.
I can definitely see myself finding some neat gifts around the holiday season and I'm excited to come back again!Listed in: Spendin' all my money

I had vever been in as my time on Barrington Street is always limited and when I am there it's usually after 6 which is when most stores downtown close. Well the store remained open late during Nocturne so the bf and I wandered in.
What an interesting store. I mean, tonns of things to look at and touch. Items varied greatly throughout the store; candles, rings, chairs, paintings, figurines.. All kinds of odds and ends, I suppose that's how the store got its name?
Although, lotsa things to choose from I don't think I could afford much.
The layout, decor and the placement of items is something very different. There isn't any organization, which works well.
I enjoyed the idea of having a little cafe in there with seating, that was kinda different too.
We didn't really have any staff interaction, she said hello with a smile as we walked in. That's what matters, isn't it. -

I first noticed Oddjects in the midst of Nocturne, the annual art festival. I thought it might be a one night pop-up art installation in one of the many empty spaces on Barrington Street. Instead it was a new store filled with home décor products and a cleverly designed coffee bar.
The store carries products ranging from decorative birdcages to baskets to kids accessories. The lamps are one of the most unique items, each featuring a uniquely crafted base made of driftwood. With its vibrantly coloured products and affordable prices, the store is, in some ways, reminiscent of Pier 1 imports: lots of scented candles, picture frames, and vases. According to the cashier, the store is independently owned.
The highlight of the store is the coffee bar which serves illy coffee as well as muffins, cookies and quiches. You or your shopping companions can have a seat on one of the three or four stools to enjoy a break from shopping or sit back and reflect on the goods for sale.
The store had a slightly odd feel, perhaps because the coffee bar is so sleek in comparison to the objects for sale. Even so it's nice to see a new addition, especially one so full of life, to Barrington Street. -

Oddjects breathes some life back to the lonely lanes of Barrington Street. It was an open door on a dreary day that musseled my intrigue and the inner tidings that kept me there!
This space is a fusion of things. High-rise ceilings and the exposed brick backdrop indulge visitors with atmosphere. The extended bar provides the center-point, to which patrons can order up expressos, coffee, treats and quiche pies for here or to go. A small cluster of tables allows ample sitting room, and it's all amongst the clean, modernist themes that home decor can be perused and acquired. Ah, it is an era of multi-offerings.
Decor (for sale) was pleasant. The lamps were a favorite, made of driftwood and overall elegance. A few pretty nic-nacks peaked my ponder--- the coaster selection, Canadian art, glassware, and a pretty paperweight to be specific! Prices appeared to be reasonable, although not for those looking for a bargain.
I'll be back to test out a florentine. All sweets are made by a local German baker, and this sugared almond/fruit treat looked tasty. Quiches are made in the store itself daily, and all the delicately encased sweets come from an outside source. (Says the friendly counter girl)
All in all, I am assured. This spot adds a nice flare to downtown Halifax. Not necessarily a "one of a kind" concept, but there is an attention to detail, sweets to swoon over, and an overall awareness that makes Oddjects a winner. Bonne å decor! -

This lively little spot has quite an innovative concept: the ecclectic décor pieces at this café are all items that patrons can purchase (though unfortunately, none of the items seems to coordinate with the design scheme formy soon-to be condo). Still, I'm always curious enough to explore the trinkets should I decide to sway from my condo décor scheme (kind of a fan of the lamps here, so I might consider a 'woodsy' theme just so I can buy one...)
The Oddjects café is quite a pleasant little spot; I just popped in for a basic java, but there are several bevvie selections to suit anyone's tastes. Oh, and I tried a store-baked date square, but found it a little too sweet for my liking.
