Lasting impression of Odd Fellows Cafe?  WOW.  Stopped in for brunch on a rainy Sunday, timid of the wait.  Luckily, we walked in and were seated right away.  The restaurant is small and modern.

They had a small but interesting lunch menu with sandwiches and apps as well as a brunch menu.  I was sold the second I saw the corn pupusa smoked salmon eggs benedict with sauteed spinach and chipotle hollandaise.  It did not disappoint.  This probably wins out as the best brunch item Philadelphia has to offer (yes, I'm going to be that bold).  Everything about it was perfect- portion size, how it was cooked, the combination of flavors. I also ordered a coffee which was above average.  My fellow diners ordered brunch items as well-  some sort of eggs, tortillas (perfect texture), beans, steak etc.  All was thoroughly enjoyed.

The service was excellent.  My fellow diner had been there earlier this week and the waitress had forgotten his tea.  She remembered him and gave him a free cappuccino. Very sweet.

I can't wait to return. I'm nervous that something so delicious is so close to my home.

So I think I'm cool with the whole café/restaurant thing going on here. I mean how can you go wrong with fine cuisine alongside a wide array of loose leaf teas?

I came back yesterday for the Odd Fellows salad (proving once again that watermelon & feta cheese were MADE FOR EACH OTHER). We also tried the mushroom coca flatbread (caramelized onion, mixed cheeses, truffle oil). A perfectly satisfying lunch.

Service is friendly, casual and efficient. They have lots of outdoor seating (including umbrellas - key for a girl who carelessly burned her face off last weekend).

Anddd they accept plastic. I can't wait to come back to try the brunch!

Listed in: lunch break - eat, drink,…, thirst-quencher

So I think I might have indulged in the best latte of my life on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

This place puts a lot of love into what they do. Odd Fellows is a perfect accessory to the trendiest neighborhood in Philadelphia. Minimal and simple looking with big flavor. What a wonderful place to do some people watching and have a pick-me-up coffee.

The kicker..overpriced. But it's simply because "they can".

I have to say, though..I am slightly confused as to how this place makes much money, aside from their pricey cappaccino. Every time I pass by, there are always a few tables indulging in a bottle of wine (the place is BYO) without anything else. Are these people just..using the seats? Is that even kosher? If anyone understands this concept please inform me.

Great coffee options, delicious sandwiches, and a cool, modern environment.  Great option for brunch and lunch, although it did strike me as a tad bit pricey.

As a neighbor, I was ecstatic to see the 12th and Spruce corner finally fully developed, as an appreciator of good coffee and Cuban sandwiches, I was pleased to see the menu options.

Just got a discounted treat from Living Social. I ordered the Fish Tacos to go. First, the atmosphere was super chic and clean and minimalist. The staff was very friendly and nice, they welcomed me openly when I arrived and had my food ready to go.
I am def not a fan of Americanized Mexican food so I was pleasantly surprised by 1) the mexican cook in the kitchen (at least he looked mexican) and 2) the fresh delicious flavors of my taco. The portion size was perfect for lunch.
    I will definitely be back!!

After hearing lot of good things about this new cafe, I was finally able to try out their Sunday brunch. I'll break down my review based on location, food, atmosphere and service - key things for a great brunch experience !!

Location: 12th and Spruce is probably one of the most trendy and cool neighborhoods in this city, surrounded with well maintained historical residential houses and a large professional urban population makes this cafe a great hangout to experience this part of the city, of course a bright sunny day helps!

Food: Menu was very impressive with great specials for the day. I was leaning towards their Cuban sandwich but ended up ordering their pupusa eggs Benedict. The reason I ordered this was because this dish was unlike usual eggs Benedict. It had sweet corn pupusa layered with smoked salmon, poached eggs, sauteed spinach with chipotle hollandaise and it was delicious!!! Never tried a traditional Salvadoran, hand-made corn tortillaa as a part of eggs Benedict before!!

Atmosphere: Great atmosphere inside, very modern decor and trendy china. A family was sitting by the window and kids were enjoying the view. There were few couples and a group of friends having a great time in the cafe.

Service: One word - fantastic!! Our hostess was the sweetest girl with the biggest smile ever. Our server was very patient and very attentive. Food was served as soon as we were half way through our tea. Overall feeling was very relaxed and friendly.

I would definitely recommend this place to enjoy a relaxed brunch and catch up with friends or just walk in for a coffee. I want to try out their lunch and dinner menus soon - Great job guys !!!

I went to oddfellows cafe for its opening day of brunch. As other reviewers mentioned, the coffee was great and the servers attentive. And, they were giving out free prosecco in honor of their inaugural brunch. Nice perk!

The food was good--the standout was the eggs with chicken riopa vieja. The smoked salmon benedict was also good.

However, in the end, I can only give this place 3 stars because the value just isn't there--portions were too small. This is brunch, not tapas. You can get both quantity and quality for the same price at many other establishments in philly. I probably won't be coming back to Oddfellows for brunch, but perhaps will try it for lunch or dinner another time.

For dinner on Thursday night, I visited Odd Fellows Cafe. I decided on the guacamole and the fish tacos.  The guacamole was delicious...one of the better versions I've had in Philadelphia. As a general rule, I loathe tilapia. However, with the ginger aioli and the slaw on the bottom of the tacos, and the perfectly cooked and seasoned tilapia, I am now a fan. I ended my meal with a to-go cup of green tea with toasted rice (I can never remember the name of the tea). All in all, this was a great meal and a great experience.

At only a few weeks old, I think this place is well worth the visit as it will only get better with time!

I like the new place. Kind of clean and elegant design in a nice area. Although Odd Fellows does serve food, it seems to be joining the new wave of cafe/alcohol/food kind of places, like Milkboy, a move away from the wifi cafes we've come to know. Although it would be nice if it were perhaps a bit more laid back, I think overall its bright and positive energy works.
And of course, excellent Counter Culture coffee with top baristas.

I'd walked by Spruce Street Espresso a number of times but recently noticed that it is currently closed for renovations, so I walked over to Odd Fellows to check out their menu.  I wanted a fairly calm, quiet atmosphere in which I could easily work on memorizing a script, so I ordered a latte with a shot of house-made dulce de leche syrup, which was artfully made and brought to the table near the window where I was sitting.  When I came in, their supply of baked goods had nearly been exhausted for they day, though they did offer me a day-old cheese danish, but I politely declined.  I do, however, hope to return for a meal!

Slammin'. Owned by the owners of 12th street espresso. Get your latte & now food.  They have a gluten free menu too!  Service is always excellent.  Lattes are great.  The appetizer with the chicken ropa vieja was amazing. A little pricey, but typical for the area.  I hope they start offering almond milk lattes!

Had lunch here three times this week! The lechon asado and the arepitas are the best things I've had.  Fish tacos were good but they needed a little something extra...maybe some color and spice or guac to go with it.
Today was their first day doing brunch so it was a little crazy in there. Eggs benedict were really good, I loved the sweetness of the pupusa with the salty salmon. The spinach was too salty though and I had to take it off. I also thought there was a bit much hollandaise on it. Steak and eggs with the arepas was very good. As always, delicious cappuccino!

about $20/person with food, drink, tip

I'll definitely be going back here to try their sandwiches and the french toast (which sounded amazing!). I hope they get a little better with their service. It seems a bit hectic right now. The music was coming from ipod speakers so if you happened to sit near them, it was really loud. The door was also open so if you sat near the door, it was cold!

I feel bad even reviewing Oddfellows yet, as they haven't started serving food yet and are still working out the kinks (I'm writing on fresh Internet - they plugged the router in 5 min. ago). But I'm doing it, mostly because I want to delay the work I have to do today.

The coffee is delicious - haven't had any of the fancier drinks but they looked good from what I saw. The bagel I had was good but I had to toast it myself. That's not a big deal but I know Chapterhouse does it for you...it's the little things. My table was a little dirty, so I had to wipe it off. And there are only a few outlets.

But the service was friendly and fast, and this place seems to have a lot of potential. The space is really cool. It's small so I imagine it getting very crowded very fast once they start serving food. Either way, I'll try it out.

Glad to see the space finally opening. Their motto is: coffee, latin cuisine, and top hats. The  top hats had me stumped until the charity event they had last week prior to their official opening today, the wait staff wears them. Looks cool. Glad to have the old Odd Fellows building finally completely remodeled and with two new businesses in it, welcome to the neighborhood!

This place is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The espresso is good and expertly made. The food, delicious, and the portions, generous. I'm a huge fan of the fish tacos. The space is absolutely lovely. The service is friendly.

They've started with a lunch menu, to be followed very soon by a dinner menu. They said they may offer weekend brunch at some point. I'm floored and puzzled that they have no plans for a weekday breakfast menu.

I'm also not a fan of the table service concept in general. Is it a coffee shop or a restaurant? It looks more like a coffee shop at first glance, but apparently it's actually more of a restaurant. For example, I'd love if they had more than just one plate with one muffin and one scone on the counter for a quick bite. For real food, what the kitchen serves is wonderful and comes out quickly, but I'd actually be happier just ordering at the counter and picking it up at the counter (or the system where you put a number on your table and they bring it out to you.) I just don't have the patience for table service in the middle of the day when I'm by myself and busy working. (I have the same problem with Le Pain Quotidien.)

But my criticism is of the concept. I wish it were a coffee shop serving good coffee and food to start - and break up - my day. I would be there every day. But they seem to be going more for a restaurant that happens to serve great coffee. If that's what you're looking for, it's great.

Came in here a few weekends ago on their first day of opening- it was jumpin! Place was so packed that there was literally no place for me to sit (glad I had to dash out to meet some friends, or else I would have been bummed).
So glad that someone finally made use of this great space across from Tria. Ordered a coffee and a pistacchio pastry. Coffee was a bit on the pricey side and not sure it was totally worth it, but the pastry was amazing!
Apparently it's going to be a restaurant? Crazy to think since the space is so small!

Fantastic coffee, excellent brunch/lunch.  Tortilla soup, guacamole, yummy eggs Benedict.  Friendly servers, open atmosphere.  More of a restaurant than a coffee shop, so if you're looking to linger for hours with your laptop and WiFi, this is not for you.  Which is fine, because there will be more room for me.  :)

To lay a foundation of sorts, I didn't get a chance to have a full meal or espresso drink here. So to fully evaluate this place, I'll probably need to go back once more. I walked in and was generally pleased with the minimal décor : easy on the eyes, sufficiently lit, and ample seating. Ample seating was and still is my main gripe with Spruce St. Espresso, so it's good to see that this new venture can seat quite a few. I ordered a cup of pourover and actually got a really great suggestion from the barista, and tried something I normally wouldn't that was lighter, and more fruity then what I normally drink. When I told him I was going to take it to stay I was assigned a server. This I don't like much at all. I was just hoping to nurse a cup of coffee and read a book, perhaps two cups if I was feeling particularly indulgent. Stingy as it may sound, I hate the idea of tipping someone for walking 10-15 feet with a cup of coffee in hand, and maybe being burdened by me asking for water. I understand it's all upsell, but the funny thing is that my server's shift was ending and he failed to tell me this. I could have walked out without paying, but grabbed another server and settled up after trying a cheese croissant which was standard coffee shop fare, and not particularly good or bad. The actual coffee was great, the main barista was friendly, but most of the service are just dumb, pretty faces who don't seem competent. No one bothered to ask if i wanted more coffee when it was low, or poured more water for me. Also no wifi as of yet, which isn't really a dealbreaker for me as I have a smartphone, and generally just read/listen to music in coffee shops.
