Review from Joyce D.
Burnaby, BC
Spent the day in North Vancouver today; went in search of my "Zen" experience. It took a lot of effort on my part to even participate in this adventure as I had made arrangements for a double booking, one for myself and one for my boyfriend who is trying to quit smoking. I literally had to pry his ass off the lazy boy and away from the 52" but I imagine most woman know too well of that struggle which is a whole different story. He was instantly put off when I told him I booked us sessions at Ocean Wellness for the infared sauna, situated in North Van. I won't repeat the stream of unique words I heard as there will be plenty enough colour in this review to begin with.
I thought we could take in the whole experience by having a Starbucks coffee, lattes in particular and carry them onto the lovely seabus and away to our adventure. So far so good. Well there wasn't much conversation but I would still classify it as good. Once we got to the Seabus terminal buses were running 15 min late which resulted in us being 15 min late for our appointments. Little stressed.
When I opened the door to Wellness, there was a calmness that took over me. I don't know if it was due to the fact it was so dark in there and the sofa chairs were so comfy but I liked it. Well at least I did. I apologized on behalf of Translink and started filling out the forms that would free Ocean of all wrong doing in case anything were to happen. It was at that point my boyfriend said he really wanted a cigarette. I reinforced the fact of why were there in the first place while the receptionist began to prepare the room. My boyfriend was feeling jittery and a little off so I told him to go ahead and try it out and after looking at me like I had completely lost my mind he stepped into the cedar box. The room itself consisted of a change area with water and cups set up, mags and towels. You are allowed 45 minutes in which to shower first, step into the sauna and then shower later. All in all you get about 35 minutes in the infared.
I was still taking in the zen experience of the waiting room and reading the benefits of weight loss, detoxification and elimination of toxins due to cigarettes and medications, skin purification and many other miracle cures.
Garrie came out with a bit of a puzzled look on his face and it looked like he was pretty wet still so I asked him what he thought and he said he had barely broke a sweat, all this in close proximity to the receptionist earshot. Embarrassed I thought I came all the way here from Burnaby I might as well enjoy myself. I poured water, arranged my towels and nested in for the next 1/2 hour. Personally, from a girl's prospective I started sweating like a m*******, well you know after about 5 minutes. At the 15 minute mark I had to jump out and take a ice cold shower for 1 minute and jump back in for the next 14. My back was very hot and while I sweated, I didn't feel anything too different. I waited for it to happen, but nothing did. LOL. At the end I took a good 5 minute shower and cleaned the room up and then went back out to the zen like reception. My skin on my face definitely opened up and I felt really clean. I looked at my boyfriend and he said so are you ready? I had intentions of buying a pkg deal which is a great price at 6 visits for 60$ but we just paid the 1 time deal for 15$ each. As soon as we hit the outside I was extremely hot and my boyfriend said my face was beet red. I told him my skin felt great and I started walking towards the bus stop. He made a pit stop at Safeway across the street for a pkg of cigs and then we headed back to Burnaby. By the time I got home my skin felt the same as it did before the treatment.
Seriously, I believe to get the full effect, one would have to go at least 2 or 3 times per week and I don't see that happening. Am I glad I went, sure I am glad I tried it at least once. Girls, leave the guys at home, definitely try it out. Was very different and I have to say I felt really relaxed by the time I reached Burnaby. While I write this review, Garrie has been sleeping on the couch for the past hour so Ocean Wellness thanks for the relief in more ways than 1. -
Review from Emily C.
By far, the cheapest infrared sauna place in the city. And it's not even in Vancouver, but across the bridge and somewhere along Londsdale. The package goes for $60 for 6 sessions, or $15 each. There's lots of health benefits as to why infrared sauna is good for the body, period, so google that stuff and check out this place. I'm a fan!
