Review from Victor L.
Brooklyn, NY
Now not quite as cheap as Chinatown, but after i saw the ridiculous prices at Garden of Eden, I knew this would be my go to place for fish and seafood.
This place is why Willoughby stinks during the day. You walk in, and on your left, is their food vendor with two deep fryers where you can get any combination of fried seafood including: crabsticks (decent), scallops (don't recommend, kind of dry), fish (cheap but good value), and shrimp (not worth it). The prices range from 4.75 for 3(!) fillets of fish and fries (which aren't very good unless right out of the fryer), up to 6.75 for a combo of three items plus fries. It's certainly a meal, and you can grab some bad hot sauce and some good tartar sauce as well. It's worth it just to take a look at, really reminds me of extremely basic food stands and joints like Burger Joint.
The fish and chips will give you the runs, I guarantee it. But I come back for more.
On the right you have the seafood on a bed of ice. They have all sorts of fish here, a decent variety, including blue fish, whiting, tilapia, salmon, tuna, halibut, cod, and probably some seasonal stuff that changes. The great thing is you can get whole fish if that's your thing. They have scallops and shrimp for about 5 bucks cheaper than the supermarkets, but about a dollar or two more than Chinatown. All in all a great find. -

This is a decent location in downtown Brooklyn and another korean/mexican fish fry/seafood market. While one has to question the sanitation of this place i think it gives a good value for your dollar. Fish and chips with 3/4 pieces of whiting; Damage 5 dollars. The fact that you know you have stunk up your office and pissed off all your coworkers off for the rest of the day....incredible (i'm not one of those trying to please everyone kinda people at work).
Other deals are available like 3 or 4 pieces of whiting on two pieces of whole wheat bread for 3 dollars. The fries and fish are average but turn quite good when their tartar sauce and hot sauce (tastes like watered down Frank's Red Hot) are applicated. You can get fried vegetables, essentially breaded pieces celery and carrots, for a little more if the fries aren't to your liking. They also have other seafood here, but it really isn't all that. The shrimp is flavorless and expensive. The squid and clams are surprisingly delicious but the portion is considerably smaller.
Again with the smell....we all know that fish stinks but fried fish isn't supposed to smell this funky. As much as i love to mess with my co workers this is sometimes too much for even me. My personal conjecture is that they don't change the oil. ...Regardless i still think that this is a good spot to go to every now and again.
