Rooms are European...On the small side but very clean, quiet and well decorated.  Has a very modern feel to it.  I've heard the hotel restaurant is very good.  I haven't tried it yet but It's comfortable, romantic and clean.  The bar is small but service is very good and they have a nice wine selection.  The hotel is nicely located with a good size mall across the street.  Great restaurants are within walking distance in all directions.  Hotel service is great and very friendly and the city is very safe.  Ottawa is a favorite of mine and I'll be going back in February.  I'll have more restaurant reviews next month.  UPDATE:  I've tried the restaurant in the hotel and it's very good.  I would also give it four stars.  They have a nice small plate menu to choose from and it allows you to try several items without getting too full.  The regular menu is very good as well with some very nice entree's to choose from.  Good wine selection and wonderful service.  I also like the atmosphere; very comfortable and a nice place to start your night.  The Cinnamon Crusted Halibut is very good andI really enjoyed the Canadian Club.  The restaurant is called TRIO and can be found on the group level behind the check-in counter.

The Novotel went through some renovations a little ways back and now looks great! The lobby looks right out of an IKEA catalog complete with Mac stations and uncomfortable-looking fluorescent pink lounge chairs.

For less than $100 on http://Hotel.ca and located steps from the Rideau canal and adjacent to the Rideau Centre and the Byward Market, this is one of the best bang for your buck in downtown Ottawa.

The rooms are very modern and cozy and the beds are super comfortable. Last year i stayed at the Les Suites next door but the Novotel is by far the better choice.

Parking isn't free but at $15/night it beats anything I would pay back home in Toronto.

I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Ottawa.

Just to let you know, I priceline bid on a hotel (3 stars) and got the Novotel in Ottawa.  Now I've stayed at the Novotel in Toronto, and it's not too splediferous.  So I wasn't really expecting much.

Upon pulling into the parking garage... again not too impressed, at this point I'm expecting some motel 6 quality here.  The parking garage is really sketchy.

Once you pass the sketch-tastic parking garage though, you're greeted by an ultra modern lobby with iMacs for browsing and nice shiny finished plastic tables.  It really looked really new.

Now I figured they just renovated so I wasn't expecting the whole place to be like this.  And guess what it kinda isn't... kinda.  Getting off the elevators, the hallways looked like they hadn't changed too much.  Kinda old looking and stuff that obviously hadn't been renovated.

Upon entering the room however, BAM!  Probably one of the nicest room's I've been in.  Modern lighting, clean bathrooms, new "wood" tiled bathrooms just the works.

Totally one of the best 3 stars I've ever stayed at.  I think they're under-rating themselves... I feel like I just stole something.

New age, very modern feel. You will notice this as soon as you walk into the lobby. Different textures, patterns, lots of lines and curves, Macs.

When it comes to the rooms, I'd have to say they are quite small, but the clean, new feeling somewhat compensates for it.

Also, one HUGE point - the bathroom doors are silhouetted... you won't actually see detail but it's suggestive enough to make you not want to hop in the shower while someone is standing in the kitchen unless you are that free with the body.

3/5 for it's awesome conceptualization of modern - but the rooms just don't make sense.

Came here last year for business. The room itself was pretty tiny compared to what I am used to in the US, but hey, I wasn't going to be in the room much, anyways. The client I was out there for recommended the hotel and I thought it was alright.

The staff was pretty friendly and helpful, and the bartender at the restaurant was excellent. Friendly, helped me discuss different places to grab a bite to eat, etc.

Problem was the elevators weren't working much at all, and I had to haul my luggage down 6 flights of stairs, which wasn't quite fun. And it was quite a wait to check out, which was kind of a pain since I had a plane to catch.

The room I had was nice but a little Closter phobic. I enjoyed the location. Being in Byward market is not my idea of a fun time, being just outside of it was a little nicer. The Bar seemed dead most of the time and the gym was a labyrinth to get to but really I have no complaints about this nice hotel.

Actually, now that I think about it their was one night that I decided to buy a bottle of wine rather then order the house wine. I was in my room and they had no wine key. Apparently what you have to do is take your wine bottle down to the clerk, give them the wine bottle they open it for you at the front desk. A lot of running around for very little reason. If you plan on going to Novotel get ready to relax and bring a wine key.

I went here to stay for a friends birthday.  The rooms were really nice, though maybe a tad small.  The only strange thing was that the doors to the washroom were sort of translucent, so thought no one could actually see you in the bathroom, it sort of felt like they could!

After some snacks and drinks we decided to check out the pool before it closed.  It was complicated to find, but when we did we enjoyed the hot tub.  For some reason the pool was quite busy even though it was a week night, so it is better to go later to avoid too many kids.

They were renovating the hotel a bit, but were doing so in such a way that it didn't cause any inconvenience.  The service was good and the room was sophisticated and clean.

Pleasant light rooms nicely furnished business modern style. Excellent large shower. Good value. Almost as central as Westin or Fairmont but much cheaper. Service not glitzy but efficient.
