This has been a huge part of family tradition. Ever since I was a little kid, having Bon Ton has been considered a HUGE treat! Sometimes we would get the Napoleon cakes or the petite fours; jealousy and asparagus are my favourites. The tiny cream puffs are delicious, too. I love how the pastry is always so crisp and the icing is so buttery.
Don't worry! All of the desserts are 100% fat free and calorie free ;) (insert sarcasm). -

Absolutely worth a visit! The confections in the front window are amazing. When I was growing up it was a tradition at Christmas to have Bon Tons for dessert but now I go there year round. I love the method of going into the front window with a staff member and selecting each pastry, choosing is hard because they are all so creamy and good.

Mixed feelings on how to review this place.
Cakes: delicious, creamy, classic italian cakes. They are about $2 a piece, and you can't just buy one.. if its to go. They sell it in boxes (6,8, or 12)
Service: They seriously need to be more friendly to customers. Maybe they have the notion that they are too popular and too in demand, that they need to scare customers away with their bitchy, granny attitude. Or maybe its all part of their play to act out as Italian snobs? I don't know what the deal is.. but I would rate this place a lot higher if only the service allowed me to.
Atmosphere: Really old, and dusty. I have second guessed myself if the place they put out the cakes are clean. But once I see that butter cream... i'm ready to put down my dollar bills.
Maybe its a good thing that their place isn't so clean, and their servers are so bitchy. It helps my waist avoid those temptatious butter cream goodness :)Listed in: Sweet Tooth

Oh, Bon Ton. Why can't you open a store in the Okanagan?
My parents always took us to Bob Ton's on Granville. (The old location.) I love the buttery creamy perfection of their buttercream icing. The petit fours are my nemeses. They are wicked good. -

Notte's Bon Ton Pastry ------- 3/6/2011
Best cakes and French pastries in town.
This famous French cake and pastries shop in Vancouver since 1926, they maintain their European tradition and using genuine ingredient
I remember when I was a teenage, mom usually send me to Granville Street ( Back in the 50, we go down Granville Street by Electric Street Car) pick up a Diplomat from Bon Ton, there's always a 10-15 person line up, particular around 4-5 when the office workers finish work. The legendary Diplomat Cake with multi-layered, rum-soaked sponge and puff pastry cake is the best in town.
I remember when they were in Granville Street, they seems to have a bigger store than the present one in Broadway, its customary for a restaurant or café stipulated a minimum charges, particularly when rent is high and space is limited. Back in the old day when they were in Granville Street, I believe they also serve Sandwiches in addition to their famous French pastries. I always have good memory about this place.
Whenever I want a good piece of cake, I always go down to Bon Ton pick up a Diplomat Cake instead go down the street pick up few buns and egg tarts; there is completely no comparison to Bon Ton Diplomat and those French pastries. Yesterday, I went down there to buy a Diplomat but they all sold out. The server suggest I try their Blueberry Cheese Cake, for some reason, I don't like cheese cake that much, particularly the New York type Cheese Cake, I like the cheese cake (soft and light ) served by White Spot Restaurant.
Anyway I bought one instead of go home empty handed. To my surprise, the Bon Ton cheese cake is different from any other cheese cake, its not very rich and just like the Diplomat cake with several layered of cream, cheese cream and sponge cake combined. (Not just one brick of solid cheese cake) It's light for cheese cake and very tasty. As usually Bon Ton always makes their cakes differently and the best. It's always enjoyable to have cup of tea and a piece of cake or pastries from Bon Ton. -

S E R V I C E!!!!!!!!!!! BAD BAD BAD!
I went there today for the first time, felt overwhelmed with the big selection of pastries and cookeis they have, so I asked one of their staff to assist me (she was blonde, in her mid 40's short and had glasses ALSO the most miserable, RUDE and moody personality)
I asked her to describe me one of the cakes on the display window, so she did-a minute later when my boyfriend showed up I told him:
Lets get this vanilla one! (pointing the one she described) AND all of a sudden she comes up and tell me:
THAT IS NOT VANILLA, I DIDN'T SAY IT WAS VANILLA!!!! (she was literally screaming at me shaking her head)
O M G
REALLY?
Just coz I said vanilla instead of whatever you said you are about to kill me? (I tought)
Jesus!
SO MY ANSWER TO HER WAS:
Excuse me, are you in a bad mood or something?
You came across really agressive.
HER ASNWER WAS:
No
I said:
Forget it, I am not buying here. Thank you.
SO I LEFT EMPTY HANDED AND UPSET.

Dear Owner of Notte's Bon Ton Pastry,
Please, please!
Have a talk to your staff and advice them to be more friendly with the costumers.
Your staff is very rude and have agressive behaviour.
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
Any way, I will NEVER get back there and tell all my friends about my bad experience at your pastry shop.
Many Thanks.
Your never to be COSTUMER -

I love this place. After driving 17 hours from California, besides the hotel room, this was the first place my friend and I went to. After a horrible day and a half of traffic and heat, the pastries at Bon Ton was well worth the trip. The pastries are small but they pack so much flavor in every bite. Love It!!! I bought a three sisters and my friend bought a chocolate progressive. Best French pastries ever!!!!!!!!
The ladies behind the counter were very sweet and inviting. Customer service here is very good. They were so nice to let us take pictures of their pastries. -

Everytime I eat a pastry from this bakery, I think I've died and gone to heaven! The last time I picked up a diplomat cake for my brother in law in Seattle, as well as an array of other little petit fours! They were all so delectable and delicious! The diplomat cake is just as good as how I remembered it the first time. They use real buttercream in everything so beware, and it's quite sweet. If I ever decide to host an English themed tea party, I'd get my pastries here. Mmm my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

No doubt that this is one of the best bakeries in Vancouver but the service was rude and dismissive. Apparently spending $20 in their store in pastries doesn't allow you to sit and order a coffee in their "tea room" without spending another $4 per person. Simply asking if I could eat my newly purchased confections there, i was given a look of sheer horror. Sorry but service is part of the deal as well and there's other bakeries in town.

After being on hold for ages, woman comes on. Do you sell biscuits, I ask. "No, we're a french pastry shop." Tone-you're a f***ng idiot. Sure, maybe in hindsight I should have thought of that, but no need for the attitude.
I know you're an institution but no need to be needlessly rude. Customer service needs improvement. I've bought diplomat cakes from here for years, when their location was downtown, and followed them to kits. Am going to have to re-think my loyalty to this place. -

If your family has lived in Vancouver for more than one generation Notte's Bon Ton may be tradition. It has provided our family with Easter eggs, birthday cakes, and treats for special occasions for years and I hope it always will.
