This is one of the nicest restaurants in Richmond. This might be one of the nicest Chinese Restaurants in all of Vancouver.

I am not an expert, but, the Shanghai style  food was awesome. The dumplings (xiao long bao) are full of flavour and one of my favourite things.

I am a big fan of their fish. Overall, the quality of the food was pretty high but the prices are not reasonable. The prices are high and worth it if you want a great experience.

    * Would be a 4 star in most other places in North America *

I heard mixed reactions to this spot, but figured I would take advantage of the rarity for Richmond - free parking in the back - and try them for lunch.

I had the xiao long bao and the handmade "special" noodle soup.

The xiao long bao were decent.  The meat was good quality and the broth very flavourful.  The dough was a bit thicker than I prefer, and a little clumpy on top.  But overall it was a decent rendition - 3 stars.  (Honestly in most places in North America it would be a 4 or 5 star, but not in the Vancouver area when there are so many good options available!)

The handmade noodles were very inconsistent in thickness and many of them were over cooked.  It is hard to cook noodles consistently when you make them so drastically different in size.  The noodles were a major disappointment in the dish, as some were so overcooked that they started to break apart.  So 2 stars on the noodles in the soup.  The fillings for the soup other than the noodles were very good though.  There were several scallops, shrimp, and squid.  All were perfectly cooked and very fresh tasting.  There was also some pork and some chicken.  Both were also good quality, tender, and flavourful.  A few greens and mushrooms rounded out the fillings.  Overall the fillings were 4 star.  But factoring in the noodles, the overall dish was 3 star.

I had heard people complain about the service, but I found the service to be quick and efficient.  No worries on that front for me.  Perhaps I just got lucky.

In any case, honestly this restaurant would be one I would be ecstatic to find in many places around North America.  But here in the land of plenty for Shanghainese style it is just a 3 star.  Damn we are spoiled here!

I'm not a big fan of xiao lung bao (shanghai dumplings), but it seems to be very popular nowadays in the chinese community.  The more juice there is in that tiny bun, the better!  I asked a friend where we should get some of these xiao lung bao, since my family has been telling me that there are really good xiao lung bao in Richmond.  My friend recommended this place.  I think another popular place is Shanghai River, but she told me that this one is better, so I'll take her word for it.  We arrived at around 11:15am this morning and luckily the place wasn't packed yet.  This is what we ordered...

2 Baskets of steamed xiao lung bao - delicious AND juicy
Fried pork chop with noodle soup - the soup was a bit bland, but the noodles were really fresh and good (my friend said they make their noodles there)
Turnip Pastry - the skin was light and fluffy.  Perfectly seasoned.  Delicious!
Soy Bean Milk - Fresh, well sweeten.  Delicious.
Fried Chinese Donut - DELICIOUS!!!!  Probably the best I've EVER had.  it was fluffy and crispy!
Potstickers - Even the potstickers were juicy!!!

The prices are pretty good for the quality of the food you get here.  Definitely come here if you want some good Northern/Shanghai style food.

Was in the mood for some xlbs so was recommended to come here. There's a parking lot in the back so park there or you'll have to park on the street and pay.

    Here's what we ordered:
-steamed pork xlbs ($4.95): 6 in an order and small. Not tasty at all and you can tell that not only was MSG used, but it's a frozen dumpling...*meh* tasting.
-fried pot stickers ($4.95): another frozen type of dumpling...would skip this
-fried scallion pancake ($4.50): thin, not too many scallions and greasy

I was not impressed by the food at all. The interior as well as bathroom is very nice and clean. Average type of Chinese service...perhaps what we ordered wasn't the best. We did see many tables order the deep fried Chinese doughnut ($2.75/1 piece) so maybe that's what one should order...
