It was my mom's first time experiencing Norm's and she loved it! She got the Sirloin Steak and Eggs, while I ordered the Loaded Hash browns! We had a great time catching up on our favorite shows. The server was great and it was a beautiful day.

I must say it was a nice change from my usual visit at 2:00am after a long night at a bar. I liked seeing more people and more waitresses.

The service and food never disappoints and neither does the price.

The old high school hang out! Even though my eating habits have changed a bit since then, I still have a huge soft spot for this location in particular. There used to be a waiter named The Riddler, because he would always have a riddle at the start of the meal & you had the night to figure it out. Also there was our German friend, The Nightcrawler, I hope he's doing well wherever he is.

Sidetracked from the food! Used to always get the Patty Melt or the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. They have really good hot sandwiches! I would probably go for the Avo-Gobble now or a big salad. Their breakfasts are always a good choice. I personally would avoid their sausages, I just don't know...also seafood. Yeah...no offense Norm's, I don't trust your shrimp. Coolest thing about Norm's is they're open 24/7!

Wanted the $5.99 steak and egg breakfast. Had to call 3 times to get the correct price for this offer.

The girl at the register Daphne seems friendly but maybe needs more training.

Hash browns were horrible, dry and almost completely burned. A total waste. Eggs were salty and could not be eaten.

Steak was ok I got what I paid for in that cut of meat.

I asked for the managers card so I could call with my concerns, but was told by Daphne in a very friendly manner that they didn't have any, but I was given a card with all the local Norms numbers on it.

All in all really disappointed, a waste of time and gas. The only reason Norms is getting 3 stars is that I had eaten here before and it was great!!! I really don't know what happened. Chalk it up to hump day blues I guess :(

Went here with my family last night because we wanted to take advantage of the kids eat free deal.  They were having a special that included a 6 oz sirloin steak, 8 pieces of fried shrimp, side dish, soup, salad, bread, and a brownie sundae all for $10.99!  What a deal!  You really can't beat that.  The salad is just iceberg but it's always cold and crisp and the ranch dressing is great, better than any supermarket brand.  The soup that I had was gumbo and it was okay.  The steak was tender, cooked perfectly with lots of flavor and the shrimp was crispy and well...shrimp. I got a baked potato side was good enough and the brownie sundae was not bad either with ice cream and chocolate syrup on top.  For the price, it's a good value and quality exceeds what you'd expect from a $10 meal.  The pancakes at Norm's are always my favorite.
Great deals all the time, love Norms!

I am not a fan of diners such as these unless I have no other choice for I have been outnumbered in my decision, I am drunk, or it is the only place that is open.
All three reasons above applied the time that i had gone.
My food was greasy and salty and I just did not finish it. I was not impressed even with the cheap prices. Overall, I would like to give them 3 star for the servers are very friendly but I just cannot find myself doing so, then I would feel guilty for misleading other yelpers with the 3 stars.

My ode to the then Grub 140 but now Foodlatio (Palatable 140 character reviews by Chris B.)

Codgerville. Pancakes are prime. Where else can you add a soup/salad to your entree for $.99? Nowhere. Doors are never locked. Open 24/365

It is what it is.  I didn't love it or hate it food-wise but loved the service.

It's comforting to have a place to count on for late night snacking.  Came here with three Yelpers after a Yelp event and chatted away for an hour or two before splitting off.

If you're not picky about food quality and want a lot of food for a small price: this is the place.  The dinner specials are very filling and usually include some dessert.  Years ago, my son opened the catsup bottle on our table and the catsup flew out of the bottle.  Apparently, the catsup fermented and "blew" out of the bottle.  Not a good sign.

I came here last Saturday. As we walked in I noticed a whole bunch of people waiting for their tables. I was ready for a long wait, but we were seated in about 10 minutes.
I had the soup, salad, and half sandwich for about $6 something. It was definitely worth it for me. I had a bowl of split pea soup, one of the best I've had. The side caesar salad was quality, and my ham sandwich came with a good portion of deli sliced ham.
The service was nice which is always a plus. I did get to try some pancakes, and they were light, moist and tasty. And they also have garlic parmesan fries!

This is the first time I've been to a Norm's restaurant and I'm happy it was a good one.  The service was not so good though.  The waiter was not very attentive to my wants and needs (for example, empty tea glass would not be offered to be filled).  But the food wasn't half bad on account it was just diner food.  I ordered the steak and eggs with pancakes, which was a special for the day.  (It was either a friday or saturday, not too sure which one it was.)

Overall, the place was good and I'd come here again!

I like this place for a reasonably-priced Sunday lunch. My family and I come here once in awhile for their earl bird specials. I get their Delmonica steak for 8.50. Come with soup/salad, baked potato and a scoop of ice cream. The service is good, and so is the food. Nothing out of this world, but yummy and filling. While we were there a waiter dropped some dishes, and we heard them smash to the floor. Next thing you hear is all of the waiting staff, and people in the kitchen clapping and cheering, and the young waiter bow and says, "Thank you, I'd like to thank my mom...". It was funny, and refreshing to be in a place where people don't take themselves so seriously and are having fun at their job.

    "We Never Close!"

Upon moving to So Cal, I found this to be a quite hilarious slogan and would scoff at this "Denny's like" diner chain whenever I passed one.  It wasnt until midterms came around and was in need of a 24 hour endless coffee serving establishment  to get me through the night.... and what came to mind?  NORMS! BECAUSE THEY NEVER CLOSE!

First of all, the service at this Norms is amazing. Everyone I encountered was SO unbelievably nice and attentive, which wasn't something I was expecting considering this being a 24 hour diner chain.  The food on the other hand was meh.  I got an egg white omelet which would have been ok if it hadn't been SO greasy.  The grease factor kind of defeated the purpose of the egg whites and veggies. Never the less, it was decent as were the pancakes that came on the side.  The omelet and coffee came to $11 something with tax, which seemed average to slightly overpriced for the quality.

The coffee on the the other hand was effing bomb based on the fact that for two bucks you get unlimited hot coffee. I swear every time I turned around someone was refilling my coffee.

No wifi, but great place to study (based on the coffee availability, 24 hour service, and excess of comfy booths).  Good people watching, large menu, and amazing service make for a solid 4 stars. Much to my surprise (I despise chains), but I dig Norms.

Low quality food at the cheapest prices possible equals to Norms.  That being said don't come here for quality foods but instead keep that equation in mind and you won't have a problem with your meal.  Don't look for anything special here other than the usual calorie loaded foods common in just about every fast food chain restaurant such as eggs, steaks, hash browns, fries, burgers, chicken tenders, etc... though I think they are also offering some "healthy" alternatives now.  I have to say the one thing I am really impressed about this place is how cheap they can get their foods priced and be continuously packed throughout the day with patrons.  Big plus to this place being open 24 hours too.

The waffles, the waffles, the waffles...I know one wouldn't think that the best waffles in the South Bay could be found at Norm's, but they can.  I'm not sure if my limited vocabulary can properly describe these puppies but I'll try. This round wonder is made to order and comes on a plate all by it's self. I've never ordered it with any of the fruit combos they offer. I usually sub it in instead of pancakes (it costs a little extra to do that, but they're worth it and so am I).  The waffle is light and airy, I still can' figure out how they do it. It's crispy but not crunchy.  If you don't go and try it yourself than you'll have to just take my word for it. They are the bomb!

My family and I usually go to Norms on Saturday mornings because the food is served fast and the service is usually excellent . Hugo is our regular server and is the best. Norm's is just a nice neighborhood type place with good food and good prices.

Ordered their crunchy fried chicken breast with gravy, vegetables, rice, gumbo soup and a chocolate ice cream sundae for $6.50!!

    Great deal!

Chicken was pretty good. It wasn't dry and overcooked.

The vegetables were a tad overcooked but I liked it like that. Although I could see a hwole bunch of people complaining about that.

Gumbo was OK. Except for the presence of the okra and some sausage, and spiced up a bit... it actually tasted a bit like minestrone. Still felt nice in my tummy while the cold wind was blowing outside though.

The chocolate sundae was a scoop of vanilla with chocolate fudgge and whipped cream. I cherry whould have made it a sunday for me... or some crushed peanuts.

Overall, it fills you up and it wasn't half bad.

    UPDATE: This Norm's IMPROVES!

    5 STARS!
    THIS IS WHY:
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

PLUS...the service got even BETTER so, CONGRATS and MUCH PROPS to this Norm's!!!  I just ate the $9.99 all you can eat fish, ribs & chicken meal, which came with some gumbo soup & a salad! It filled me the F' up!!

The chicken was one of a kind, the ribs tasted BETTER than Hometown Buffet and the battered fish was phenomenally some of the best deep fried fish I've EVER tasted, and I've been to London, England for "Fish & Chips", so that says A LOT.  Don't forget the ranch and tartar sauce!

Thursdays is a GREAT day to stop by Norm's for their specials!
Customer service was AWESOME as usual.
Congrats Norm's, you've just went from 4 to now 5 stars from me!

I remember seeing this place on some show and I made a mental note to try it sometime. I didn't know where any were so I was surprised to spot it on the drive home from LA, I drove down the PCH and there was Norm's. It was Sunday afternoon and there was no wait. The place was huge and so was the menu. From breakfast, to burgers, desserts, pasta, Norm's has everything.
I ordered the mushroom burger. It was a 1/2 lb. burger with mushrooms and cheese and a side. It was good & tasty and ran about $10. My friend had the chicken quesadilla, also good, but not great. The desserts looked yummy and they claim to have award winning vanilla ice cream.
I can't say that I'll be back with so many other places to eat on a road trip to LA, but at least now I can say I've been there.

I can't believe I've never Yelped this Norm's before!  Anyways, here's the scoop.  This is the info you'll ever need about Norm's:

    1. If you went to a movie at the AMC across the street, just bring in the ticket stub and they'll give you a free dessert.
    2. Check out the table's specials, as they are usually way way better than anything on the menu, value-wise or otherwise.
    3. On Thursdays, they have an all you can eat chicken, beef ribs and fish (white fish).  This comes with salad/soup and choice of potato.  All for $9.99.  I gotta make a trip out here on Thursday some time.

I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning and there was a huge crowd up front.  The wait wasn't so bad though.  I think we waited about 10-15 mins so not too long.

Their specials: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 3 bacon, 3 sausages, hash brown for $5.99.  Wowie.... even if I was to make this at home, it would cost me more than $5.99 w/ labor and all of course!  The other was basically the same but sub in the 2 slices of ham instead of the sausages or bacon for the same price.  Seriously... you can't beat these deals...

The only complaint is that when they brought out the meats, they didn't dab the oils off.  The plate was completely greased up.  I don't mind it but presentation wise, it could use some work.

The staff: very friendly and relatively attentive.

Anyone who knows the Norm's chain is probably aware that you don't come here for culinary enlightenment.  So why would I spend the effort to write about this place?

It's one of only a handful of places I can sit and work through the night unmolested.  I don't think there is supposed to be free wi-fi at this one, but I usually pick up something (maybe from the inn across the street?).  The harsh fluorescent lighting helps keep me awake.  Also, Norm's will leave you with a thermo-carafe of coffee, so you can get your fill without bothering anyone.  Oh, and the restrooms are clean.

Service is a little like dealing with a relative with Alzeihmer's....again, expectations should be low considering it is 2:30 am and it's a chain diner.  I figure it couldn't be open at 4:30 am and offer a Sirloin Steak and Eggs with Hash Browns and Two Hotcakes for $5.49 unless it was a large chain. (After 9am, the price is $7.99 - still quite a deal)

    So, recap:
         unlimited hot coffee,
cheap food like your Aunt Flo cooks,
         open 24 hours

Perfect for a sleepless nightowls like me - now if they could just have available sockets and good free wi-fi, it'd make my night.

Now onto my review on Ludobites..... :)

I'm not going to review the food, as it's merely sub par, but rather I am going to rate the customers that I always encounter late at night eating at Norm's.

First, you have the elderly people who are up WAY past their bedtime.  They usually spend a good 3 to 4 hours at Norm's, usually staring at each other, senile as all hell.  They are classic Norm's customers.

Next, you have the late night crack addicts, unable to sleep due to a recent heroine binge, they roll into Norm's in a meth-induced stupor, usually with little money, and order by pointing, and maybe grunting.  Do not lock eyes with one of these patrons, as they usually are very confrontational and will threaten to stab you with a homemade shiv.

Also a regular occurrence at Norm's late at night are the recently set-free convicts.  You can usually set them apart from the aforementioned addicts because they are carrying their belongings in some sort of paper bag.  They order the cheapest item on the menu, and usually pay with an assortment of dollar bills, pennies, and arcade tokens.

Lastly you have the staple of all Norm's restaurants... and that would be the trailer trash.  If you hear a loud rumble, simply look outside to see the circa 1980's beat up pickup truck roll into the parking lot.  Is he wearing a baseball cap with an American flag pattern on it?  Does he have a mullet?  Is his wife a whale and utterly nausea-inducing?  Are there 5 to 10 children of various ages being dragged along?  Yep, there are.  And they are here to eat at Norm's.  Enjoy your stay.

This is a greasy spoon and sticky table type of joint.  Literally.  Strange residue on utensils and a sticky residue all over the entire surface of the table.  Kinda felt like someone had rinsed the surface of the table with Sprite shortly before I got there.
I ordered the mushroom burger with swiss with the patty cooked medium.  The burger was served well done, minus one star.  The fries were meh, but that wasn't enough to take off another star.  I was in a particularly indulgent mood, so I added a milkshake to the order.  When the waiter served the shake, he damn near threw it on the table and hastily asked me if there was anything else I needed.  The shake itself was way too sweet.  It was sweet to the point of overwhelming the vanilla flavor.  The combination of deficient performance with the delivery of the shake and a sub-standard recipe for it take off another star.
At this point the place is down to three stars and one observation I made that I could have dismissed can now no longer be dismissed.  The noise associated with food preparation coming from the kitchen combined with the din of conversations in the dining area make this place rather loud.  The volume level seemed particularly strange considering the fact that the I would estimate it was operating at about half capacity.  High ambient volume level in light of the experience by the end of the night: minus one star.
So there you have it... a solid two stars.  I will not ever be returning to this place or recommending it to anyone.  Damn shame, as to me any diner has great potential.

Norm's Woo Hoo! Another LA institution, there seems to be one in every part of LA, there's always one when you're drunk and you need soething to eat. Always reliable...just miss the one that was on Sunset near Kaiser.

Anyways, this location seems to always be busy. Right in the middle of Carson, Torrance, Rolling Hills and Palos Verdes, so you get you're fair share of retirees as frequent customers here.

The staff here always seems to be understaffed and many times I've had to wait several minutes to get seated and to pay my bill. And I usually visit this location in the middle of the day. It's probably busier at night when the kids come out to play.

But it's your usual fare of Denny's type food. But they have great lunch special like steak and eggs for $4.99...plenty of food, and their pancakes are HUGE. Last, if you buy a meal with soup and salad, you will be full by the time your entree comes to you.

I always go there after midnight, but before sunrise.

I usually order the San Franciscan. It was good. No surprises there.

Twice, I had the avocado salad (I think that's what it's called) with shrimp. I was so f***ing good, and so massive there were enough for 2! The salad consists of spinach, avocado, croutons, tomatoes and shrimp smothered with pesto sauce, or dressing. What it matter, it's all good!

Then the last time I went to Norm's, I decided to go for one of the BBQ burgers. It was okay. I started to eat it, thinking, "Yummy!" then after a few bites, I realized there were a bit too much condiments. It turned out to be a tad bit sour and vinegary. Just a bit, but overall, I would have it again but not during the next visit.

Every time I go there, I'd always order an sampler for appetizer.

In a nutshell, it's the perfect place for American comfort food. And their salads are awesome!

We walked around the restaurant and it was FILTHY.  We found a clean table sat down  and the food and service was just as bad.

OK, I MUST have better things to do than yelp about Norm's.  But I tested this one 2x before "putting my pen to paper."

Both times for breakfast.  Ordered the same each time...2 eggs over easy, bacon, dry rye toast and coffee.  Both experiences were excellent.  Here's why:

    1) restaurant is "ice clean,"

    2) service was excellent...there in a minute and re-fills before I could ask WITH A SMILE,

    3) food was consistent and very good ... no complaints, and

    4) it's quiet (woo hoo) I can read the newspaper or my favorite "PC World" magazine (but I digress)

If you come to Norms, its not because of the food. Its just your basic diner food, but at a real affordable price. Make sure you check out the daily specials because they are a bargain. The main reason you go to Norms is to sober up from a long night of drinking and you need some food in you system. Don't deny it, you know you have done it plenty of times. The Staff is very friendly even when they are dealing with your drunk ass. Trust me they get a kick out of it, just don't go puking all over the place.

Honestly, this place doesn't a 5-star rating because of the food, but it gets the rating because of all the memories that I've had at this particular location.

The food itself is plentiful and will fill you up guaranteed, the taste isn't too bad, although sometimes, the steak will come out char-grilled to coal when I asked to medium rare.  And their split-pea soup usually has a VERY thick layer of some crust on the top that you can literally see crack when you put your spoon in. (I didn't "eat" the soup the moment I saw that) But other than those two things, it's really not that bad for the price you pay.  Not to mention the Charging Rhinos and Broken Menus I've encountered along the way.

I love Norm's, I'd say Norms is the best diner chain, Denny's can not even compare in terms of prices/quantity/flavor.  I always stick with my $7.99 sirloin steak and eggs with hash browns and 2 large fluffy pancakes special.  The steak is decent, pretty tender but is not consistent.  The eggs and hash browns are always delicious, as their pancakes.  So fluffy and chewy, and all for 7.99, u can't go wrong.

It's not exactly a 5-star restaurant, but if you want something cheap and the food good, then this is the place to be. They give you so much food that I usually just eat half of it and bring the rest home. For $10 I got soup, salad, steak and shrimp and dessert! Also, they're open 24/7 for those late-night cravings.

My first reaction with this restaurant was good, the host gave us good seats and our waitress was giving us good service, until we needed water. She was counting her tips in public when we asked her for water. And like when she got our water, she said she'll be leaving. So I guess we got no waitress/waiter no more? And like I have left overs, where the fuck is my bag? Luckily I saw a waitress that pass by me and asked for a bag. When we were about yo pay, we noticed that our waitress wrote on the order that we got sierra mist, oh hell no. Me and my cousin both got water and once we got to the host to complain, he told the manager "apparently they ordered water" wtf?! Do you fucking think we're lying?! I swear, the nerve of people. If the food wasn't as good, I would've rated this restaurant a 1.

I've always wanted to try norms when I lived in Cali, but never did. Today I'm glad we stopped. The whole family left full. I couldn't even finish mine. Lots of comfy booths. Everything arrived at the table hot. If we come back to Cali I'd eat here again.
