One of the only places in Toronto that places a good selection of music. (Rave, Retro, Synthpop, Industrial, Goth). They have two rooms, which is good on a club night. However, it's a very small venue, and can get quite crowded some nights.

Not really into this place, but it could be a lot worse. The lights are really cool. The bathrooms are pretty sketchy. And it's awkward to get to the washrooms. Not much seating. Not much room at all. Of course, all four times I've been here, they haven't allowed us in the other room.
Oh, and they don't serve water there. Seriously. You're not allowed to bring water inside the club. They don't have water for sale. And they won't give you a glass to fill up with water. I don't drink much, I just want to dance, and I get thirsty!
The bouncers are kinda scary too. -

Great service, great ambiance, only place in the city to find certain genres of music.

I've been to Nocturne twice. The first time I went for Dark Rave - a 90's revival party for old glowstick-heads and drum'n'bass lovers (moi!) - and the second for a synthpop/industrial party that should have been excellent, but was ruined by horrible DJs.
For the record, I won't really take this into consideration; nightclubs hosting different parties tend to be irregular by nature, so you can't really blame the place. What matters here is the sound system, the ambience, the frequency and the service, so...
Sound: Nocturne has two rooms. The main one is pretty big and has a bar (very expensive as usual), a few seats along the walls and two... cages (how 90s!). The second one is smaller, situated at the front. Judging from Dark Rave, both rooms have an excellent sound system and - amazingly - good isolation between them. (Before you ask: when I went for the second time both DJs were pretty bad and didn't even know how to set the sound systems properly.)
Ambience: If you couldn't guess from the name, Nocturne is a place with strong goth tendencies. It's not as niche-y as Neutral (which I would classify as OMG I'M SO GOTH I BLEED THE BLACK TEARS OF NOSFERATU WHEN I CUT MYSELF BECAUSE I HAVE ISSUES), but it's dark. There's some interesting (but oh so goth) art on the walls, the aforementioned cages, black light and "lasers"[1]. Yup, the works.
Frequency: It really depends on the party, but you're sure to find some (wait for it) goths. I don't mind. In fact, I kinda like it! The huge plus is that this place is absolutely 100% douche-free. It looks like gothiness is a douche repellent (I wonder if I could write a paper on this...).
Service: The bar is ok for nightclub standards (in other words: it's ridiculously expensive and pretty much sucks). The washrooms are completely average (not too disgusting actually, but don't expect extreme cleanness). They have coat check, but the last time I went it was unattended for a long time! I decided to just leave my coat somewhere else and go back a few hours later to *finally* be able to get rid of it. Not cool.
Ok, so is Nocturne a good place or not? It depends. If you're lucky enough to go catch a night with good DJs, you will most certainly have a good time and overlook all the weak points.
On the other hand, if you happen to suffer through one of the appalling performances of a certain DJ Lazarus (a regular on a few nights, I've heard), you won't last long there. It's all a matter of perspective.
