Review from Win L.
My favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Edmonton. I love there is easy parking, great location and how you get delicious vegetable soup with every order! The chow mein, pork chops and spring rolls are particularly delicious here. Most of all, it's consistent and always meets my expectations. And it's clean! Being clean feels like it should be a baseline standard (like a hotel shouldn't advertise clean sheets cause that should be a given!) but alas, amongst the Edmonton options of questionable cleanliness or the pungent stench of bleach at other establishments, yay to Ninh Kieu!

I used to be a fan of this place but there seems to have been a change in management. On our most recent visit, our waiter did not know anything about the specials, didn't really seem to even know the menu very well and was generally not very helpful. In fact, we ending up ordering an appetizer and main of the same dish and she did not mention that they were the same, even though the names were quite different.
The grilled beef dishes were very good. The fried calamari resembled A+W onion rings in the texture of the batter and was quite chewy. Assorted seafood on crispy noodles was good, except for the imitation crab.
Overall, it was just OK and for more than $50 it seemed pricey. -

We have been going here pretty regularly for years and before I would have given them a 4 or 5 star review.
Maybe it is just the time of year, or maybe they are under new ownership, but it has just been getting progressively worse over the last few months.
The food is still pretty good but the service is terrible- sometimes taking 15 minutes just to be greeted and not very friendly. The last time we went it took almost an hour for our food to arrive and the time before we were finished our meals before we received our drinks- neither were at a busy time of day.
I really do like it here but a break is in order for sure :( -

I've eaten here a couple times, and as far as pho goes, Ninh Kieu does a pretty good job of coming close to homemade pho. My only "beef" (haha, get it? ok, sorry for the bad pun) is that they didn't give me enough beef slices in my soup. But other than that, the soup was very good, not too salty but not too plain, and thus not in desperate need of hoisin sauce.
We had the spring rolls too, since I had a major craving for them. At $8 for 6 rolls though, it's kinda pricey. But they were still really good, crispy and crunchy on the outside, and not burnt. Could use some more meat inside them though.
The food came out fast, and the service was fast and friendly. The restaurant itself is very large and more on the formal side for a Vietnamese restaurant, with large ivory curtains draping over the windows and colourful lamps hanging in an alcove near the entrance. Overall, I'd say it's decently priced for quality of food and service. -

The more I dine in Ninh Kieu, the more I appreciate the experience. The feel of the place is so relaxed and calm, even when it is busy. Sometimes, if there are a lot of customers, service can be slow, but never impossible. I have continued to order beef and chicken pho soups, as well as grilled beef on vermicelli - staples of my Vietnamese dining experiences. If I was entertaining a guest who had never before been to Chinatown, Ninh Kieu would probably be the first place I would take them. The prices are similar to other noodle houses, which is amazing considering the size of the place and the quality of the food.
