Review from Richie S.
Managed to visit the restaurant here twice in one day (breakfast, round of golf and then a quick lunch). Hands down, the worst run establishment I have witnessed in North America. How's that for statements?
Breakfast:
We made reservations for 8 for breakfast. Simple enough. The building is quite lovely to look at. Natural elements all around - stone and wood but with clean lines, flat screens everywhere (it IS a golf-based establishment, after all). Private room available, etc. Hardwood recently replaced by carpet...golf shoe damage, possibly?
We were seated almost immediately. A quick count showed roughly 40-60 tables available, not including the covered patio with tables, a more relaxed area with couches, a fireplace and another flat screen. Add to that another patio overlooking the first hole and it is quite pretty.
The Service:
10-15 minutes to take drink orders. There were 3 tables occupied when we showed...and a hostess on duty. We were handed 5 menus...for 8 people. Eventually our orders were taken for breakfast. 6 people ordered off the menu and 2 ordered poached eggs instead of the standard scrambled, sunny side up, etc.
6 plates arrived in a barely acceptable time (two ordered were incorrect), but it was another 15 minutes before the poached eggs showed. 25% of our table hadn't received their orders by the time the rest of us were finishing up.
Apologies from staff, but poaching eggs take 3-5 minutes. I'll leave it at that. I can only blame the servers for not checking more frequently on the hold up (I say again, there were 5 other patrons in the restaurant, so it wasn't busy).
Golf:
Its a pitch and putt. 3000 +/- yards. Two par 4 and the rest par 3. Not bad. My dad has horrendous issues with his knees so we rented electric carts, but were informed that it was cart path only = carts weren't allowed on the grass so you had to walk almost as much as you would if you didn't rent a cart. We lubricated my dad up on beer as much as possible, but he was dragging by end of day.
After our round, we were going to drive the carts to our cars to drop our clubs and change shoes, etc. Staff instructed us that no carts in the parking lot. What?!?! It must be an insurance thing, b/c in all of my 30+ years, I have never witnessed this rule. Could we get a ride to our cars?
Nope. Bastards.
I lugged my dad's golf clubs and my own to the car park just in time for 5 golf carts to whiz past me with golfers going to their cars. Apparently, they knew people. Staff: get your story straight.
Lunch:
Restaurant was 70% full and both patios were filled with people. We chose the patio as it was a lovely day.
10 minutes passed before wait staff greeted us for drink orders. After taking said drink orders, 15 minutes passed before our server returned to say that they were out of one of the beers ordered and the others would have to wait as the keg needed to be changed. I'm sure most of us have worked in a restaurant at least once. I worked in a bar - when a keg runs out, it takes a couple minutes to change and 2 minutes to get the tap running again. Another 10 minutes later (this is now 25 minutes after ordering) two beers came. 10 minutes after that the last of our drink order arrived.
Rather than waiting again, we ordered whatever sandwiches were on the menu as soon as the last of the drinks showed. Food made it out within an acceptable amount of time, but we asked for the bill immediately. It came a half hour later. I'd give a respectable review of the food, but I was seething and don't feel they deserve the write up. I am/was that bitter.
It took 2 HOURS to serve us 3 beers and 3 sandwiches.
NINE18 Management - get your **** together. Your staff are either not trained properly (that goes from cooks to servers to the little guy working the golf bag stand) or they're slow.
Unacceptable.Listed in: Skip these if given a choice.
