I wish I had discovered this vet sooner, instead of subjecting my little pal to vets without specialized avian knowledge.
Dr. MacDonald and staff are fantastic. Compassionate, personable, thorough, and with a genuine soft spot for birds.
The cost is comparable to all vets. There's the initial exam (I think it was between $35 and $50), and follow-up appointments are on a sliding scale (plus any medicines or tests needed).
Unfortunately I was there at least once a week for several months as we tried to help my bird recover from multiple health issues, but the quality of care was worth every penny.
They also cut me many little breaks and waived some fees, etc. Nothing ostentatious, just little much-appreciated deals here and there. I felt like they were there to help me, not get every last coin out of my pocket.
They also board birds if you have to go away, I think I paid $20 a day for this service - incidentally my first separation in 10 years from my pet, but I was OK with it because the staff is terrific and I knew she was in good hands. Playtime and treats and a quiet place to sleep (and a warm bean bag), plus someone on staff is always on-site 24 hours a day.
