After seeing jil.s as a first reviewer, I gotta put my two cents in too out of support!

This place is tucked away in the same plaza as Bali, facing the World Bowl place. Apparently this place has been around for more than decade and, quite evidently, has a large following of regulars.

The ambience is very familial-European. You feel like you're walking into your mom & pop's cafe, hanging out with friends etc. The service is very good. I frequently talk to the owner, John, who is deeply knowledgeable of all things Indonesian (plus points for that!). He even makes jokes that the Bali Restaurant should get in trouble for not having any real Indonesian food :)

The collection of groceries is fascinating. Growing up in Indonesia, but not having visited Holland until my twenties, I had no idea how much of an influence the two cultures had on each other. There is a veritable treasure trove of Indonesian spices and ready-mix seasonings, some of which are authentic Indonesian brands, while others are Dutch brands that are established by transplanted Indonesians.

It's hard for me to be completely objective since going here reminds me so much of my grandparents that I usually just end up giggling by myself in delight, but if anyone wants to look at unique Dutch cookies and knick-knacks, while getting a full blast of Indonesiana in the process, GO HERE.

Highly recommended is the De Ruijter brand muisjes: chocolate sprinkles for morning breakfast toast. And no, that is NOT strange, I mean have you ever heard of Nutella? Well then. Similar concept, different texture. So there (sorry for being defensive, I got teased a lot in high school for eating chocolate with my breakfast. Well excuse me for being European :P)

As a side note, I'm still not discovering any real Indonesian restaurants in the GTA so far.... :(

Being a recent Indonesian-American transplant to Toronto, I was terribly disappointed to learn that the GTA lacks a proper Indonesian restaurant. Furthermore, the local Asian markets don't seem to carry many of pre-packaged Indonesian spices with which to make some of the favorite dishes at home.

This is where Niemeyer Imports comes in. Not only do they have these spices and other pantry items, they carry many Dutch goodies that I grew up with and love -- such as muisjes and hagel (sugar sprinkles that are eaten on toast for breakfast), speculaas (spiced sugar cookies), ontbijtkoek (a breakfast cake, soooo good slathered with Dutch butter!), stroopwafel (syrup waffles)... the list goes on. Seriously, it's hard not to explore the shelves and not want to bring home one of everything!

Most of the shop is taken up by a deli/coffee shop where they serve up Dutch specialties (kroket, sausage rolls, gouda, etc); however, on my visit there I didn't get to stick around long enough to sample. I definitely will make a special trip out there to do so, though.

The people that work there are super super nice and very helpful. I'm so happy this place exists -- I will definitely be back!

I've been to the strip plaza where Niemeyer Imports located numerous of time.. So when my Yelp Friend said meet there it is where Kim Tao Hot Pot , Bali Restaurant located.. I know exactly where it is!

Warm welcome from the storeowner when I walked in.... Niemeyer does set up like a little charming coffee shop with quite a few tables. My Yelp Friend had made himself at home, reading newspapers and drinking coffee...

Great selections of Dutch imports... of course my eyes and heart always set on the sweets...

Stroopwafel* (syrup waffles) went well with the drip coffee, what a leisure way to chill out and enjoy the moment.. or the sweetness!

Have to come back for lunch later since Niemeyer Imports has LUNCH SPECIALS! And I also have a coupon for a free drink if I get a lunch specials....

It's good to be Dutch because the Dutch make good food!!!

The Dutch are famous for their cheese, chocolates, coffee flavored cookies, waffle cookies, croquettes, pancakes (rolled up crispy crepes), candy, cheese snacks, etc.

Niemeyer Imports website shows all the products available at their store
    - definitely check out their cheese, round flat waffle cookies and coffee cookies.

Definitely check out this store if you are looking for new food products to try.

The Dutch explorers colonized Indonesia for some years so that's why Dutch stores sell Indonesian food.

There is a cafe in the store. Sit and eat.

I forgot to check if they sell Dutch pancakes (crepes) at the cafe.

Dutch pancakes (also known as Pannekoek) is one of the greatest foods on earth so be sure to try them if you ever see them in a restaurant or if you see a Dutch pancake house (example: Holland or Vancouver / British Columbia).

Sidenote: Apparently, there are 2 types of Dutch pancakes (fried version and baked version). My above comments refer to the crispy fried pancakes (looks like crepes but tastes better than the usual crepes).

You can make them yourself- be sure to use Carnation evaporated milk in the batter
(instead of regular, ordinary tasting milk).

Accordion music playing in the background is easy-listening.
Indonesian Sambal Badjak and other products brought me here.
I poured myself a cup of coffee, sat at a table and read the news.

The Owners, Staff and even the Customers are so easygoing.
Section of Imported perishable[1] Grocery, half Indonesian half Dutch.
Deli/Lunch counter and Dutch Souvenirs complete the small shop.
As I drink and read, the owner was making a special order Gift Basket.

By the time my Friend decided to appear, I already had Verkade bar ready.
Late afternoon, so Pickled HERRING Lunch will have to wait for next time.
Stroopwafel will do for now, as we pick a pack from the counter to share.

[1] as with most Import perishables, *watch* for expiry date.
