THIS PLACE IS ADORABLE. Its small and cozy and its got that cute little diner feel with the leather chairs and the ugly little tables. But that's not why you come here, you come here because a, the hashbrowns are delicious (they are, they're that almost perfect not-too-greasy but still crispy shreds of potato) and its cheeeap. And huuuge portions, at that too. I ordered a corned beef hash with sausage and mushrooms and ended up with a full plate and a tummy ache from eating too hard.

Its decent here people. Its better than Renos a few blocks down as far as breakfast goes, and its pretty cheap considering the food you get. But I digress, back to the hashbrowns... I don't know what it is, but I get onions in mine all the time... not that its a bad thing or anything

But here's the thing, come here EARLY. They open at 8, so come sometime within the hour or so, because it does get kind of busy and word of advice, the lunch is not as great as the breakfast. Come when its not busy, the ladies here are sweet and they did (at least the couple of times I've been here) refill your coffee and such.  PANCAKES here are good, and I'm a sucker for good pancakes. I've had the banana pancakes, and I've tried the ham benny...but shit, the omelettes here are HUGE.

If I were to describe this place in 1 word, it would be Deadly.  Using 2 words, it would be Ghetto Hipster.

Parking is only available on the streets.  Look for a loading zone if you're coming here during off-hours.

The interior looks like something out of the 1950s.  Blank walls, ugly-looking tables, and vintage food equipment.

The food here is so ridiculously cheap, it rivals Asian restaurants.  Omelette with toast and hash browns for $7.25?  Baller.  The hash browns are the "lots of narrow strips" variety, and the omelette is spilling out with goodness.  The 4 pieces of toast were a bit dry, but that was easily fixed with a pack of butter.  The restaurant also has other comfort items such as soups and sandwiches.

The French Toast here is also quite well done.  Not mushy at all, with the egg nice and infused.

I also had the strawberry milkshake.  Don't ask how many calories are in this thing.  One thing I did like is that they didn't make it too sweet, which is common with other places such as White Spot.

All of my friends and I left this place FEELing good.  And bloated.  Recommended.

Solid little spot. Good eats, especially considering the price point. Friendly and efficient staff: We were seated promptly, coffees started flowing, orders were taken shortly after and the food came out suprisingly fast. Had my coffee refilled a bunch of times (very key), were asked if our food was good etc. All in all, a very good experience.

Yes, the hashbrowns here are the bomb.

Ok, Nice Cafe, I've given you more than a few shots, but I'm afraid our relationship has come to a close.

My friend Clayton and I used to go here for breakfast on a somewhat regular basis, until one Saturday out of nowhere, they told us they didn't (and never had) serve(d) pancakes on weekends; this was odd, because Clayton had ordered pancakes just about every time that we had been there (always on the weekend). This was kind of the last straw after a few visits involving no coffee refills and spending fifteen minutes trying to flag down our bill.

Recently, I gave the Nice Cafe a second chance and was rewarded with an omelette that tasted as though it had been sitting in the back for about an hour and had simply been reheated to lukewarmness when I placed my order.

It's too bad, because I am a secret fan of a good greasy spoon. Nice Cafe just doesn't make the cut.

used to say "nice!" all the time.
used to drive by this place via Main St all the time and think, "NICE! cafe?"
little did i know Nice is actually a city, in france? is it pronounced nee-chay then?
    who knows.

broke my eggs benny cherry here with smoked salmon.  the salmon didn't have  enough flavour. will have to try it somewhere else & compare.
hash browns were pretty tight.  LOVE potatoes of any sort but usually get scared of breakfast taters.
side sausages were standard breakfast sausages, which means BON's still has better ones (when it's not burnt).

steak & eggs for $7.50??  definitely need to return for that or some omelette fluff  already!

Nice! Busy, but we managed to snag a spot, whew. Instantly offered coffee (always good), and food arrived promptly.

I ordered pancakes, came with the usual butter and syrup. Yum! 3 lumps  of deliciousness, all just the right size without leaving me stuffed full. Even managed to squeeze in a slice of sour dough toast (yes, I could eat forever!). My boyfriend had a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns, said it was the best in the neighborhood, so there ya go.

    Was nice, will return!

Very busy place for Sunday brunch! Big portion and non-stop coffee refills!

We had our Sunday girls brunch at Nice Cafe last wknd.  I was very glad that my friend was smart to make reservation ahead of time because there were at least 4 tables waiting to be sitted outside in the cold.  The servers are very friendly and check up on us to make sure everything is tasty and our coffee is re-filled promptly.  I probably had like 4 cups of coffee that day lol

For the prices the food is great. It's one of the cheaper places in the city with dishes going for anywhere from $6-$9 for breakfast. I only go there for breakfast/brunch so I can't give an opinion on anything else.
The decor is very main street and it's fast becoming an institution where all the locals go. Their corn beef hash cures all hangovers so I understand why...

This place is one of the last great surviving breakfast spots in the neighborhood and for good reason!  It can get busy later in the day but I tend to be up early and they open at 8 when it's rarely busy.  It seems this place has really taken off in the last while now that Mount Pleasant and the Main street area have become more popular, but Nice cafe has been a gem for a long, long time.
The food is simple but it's a welcome bit of nostalgia to when I was little and would go for breakfast with the family.  The eggs have always been done properly and the hash-browns are simply delicious with just the right amount of scallions added.  The decor and atmosphere give it a nice community vibe and the servers have always been exceptionally friendly even when it's really busy.
This cafe reminds me of Vancouver the way it was 5-6 years ago, warm friendly and inviting.   It doesn't try to be something its not and buy into the "foodie" craze and as a result feels comfortable and at home with itself.  Definitely not the place to WOW a new pretentious acquaintance (unless they're a 'hipster' I guess....)  but a great place to go for breakfast with an old buddy.

What a cute little breakfast gem. Cheap breakfast, enough food and greasy enough to cure your hangover on the cheap.

We got up early on a Saturday morning and dashed down here to get a table as soon as it opened. This is a really quaint old school diner that is a little rough around the edges but at the same time is very clean, tidy, and inviting. The portions are gigantic, the service is good, and your coffee cup is never empty for very long. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be a regular. Prices are extremely reasonalble for the amount of food you get, and the quality is quite good, definitely better than you can expect to find at a comparable chain restaurant.

You know what's great about this place? It's cheap and it's charming... and that's about it. Service was slow & forgetful, food was edible (I suppose) but I think my 10 year old niece could have prepared something better, faster.

I don't mean to be harsh.. this place really is cute and is really very "Main Street".. And I get the appeal of that. It's cheap & they don't rush you out the door.  I can totally see how a family or a couple would make this this regular, sunday-brunch place. Hell, the waitresses probably would even get to know your name after a few weeks.. and that would be swell!

But I gotta be honest, the over all experience left me asking, "really? That's IT?"Let's call it what it is-- a hole-in-the-wall diner that serves VERY basic, run of the mill, average-at-best food. As long as you don't go there expecting much more than that-- you'll leave happy (enough).

Nice Cafe: another "it is what it is" kind of place. They don't have soy milk for coffee. This place does NOT care about potential vegan clientele. I had some (vegan) roommates who were inexplicably in love with the truckstop charm of this place for a couple months, so I've been there a few times.

Cool thing: you can order a bunch of sides, which are all really cheap, to construct your own breakfast. We would usually do the hashbrowns, which are fried grated potato (awesome) served with green onion (awesome), mushrooms, tomatoes, and toast. Hardly a filling or nutritionally balanced breakfast, but if you're a vegan and you have to go there, at least you can eat SOMETHING.

Also, for those of you who care (hopefully ALL OF YOU) they do offer free-range eggs for an extra $1.

As a hungover unit on a Saturday afternoon, I knew I couldn't really be choosy. I wanted grease. I wanted diner fare. And I wanted it then and there. And for that, I thank you Nice Cafe for being there and for me always following the golden rule - Never travel in groups of more than 2 for weekend brunch.

I get it. It's supposed to be a hole in the wall. The PC brand hot sauce, the suspect creamer that have likely been sitting out at room temp for a while, the dirty ketchup spouts... it all fits. But if there's one thing that a greasy diner should nail, it would be hashbrowns. From the outside, mine looked crispy and golden, but the moment the first layer of shredded fried starch was removed, sad strands of white, barely cooked flesh are exposed. How disappointing. I still powered through and ate them up, with heaps of ketchup and a douse of salt and my meh-blackstone-benny piled on top and the sad-soggy-store-bought english muffins abandoned on the side of my plate.

Cheaper than most but worth the underwhelming flavour? Meh.

Almost there Nice Cafe, get rid of the tiny creamers and jam/pb packages and you are officially my favorite cheap and easy breakfast place in town. The food and price is right, its just a bummer to still have to bring my own condiments. They do have those neat little paper boxes like asian noodles come in which they use here for kids treat bags that they will let you use to take away. This is a big step over styrofoam, even though the boxes were re-purposed just for me.
Today I will head there again, as per my 3 year old's request. We LOVE the food.

The first definition of 'nice,' according to the American Heritage Dictionary, says this:

    1. Pleasant; agreeable; satisfactory: "we had a nice time."

I could not agree more with the dictionary on this one when it comes to describing the appropriately titled "Nice Café" on Main Street. This place, by appearance and taste, has "nothing to write home about" written all over it.

The decor is nothing to make note of, except everything looks like they were discovered out of a 1970's school cafeteria, which I believe was chosen because the owners have a wry sense of humor.

Let's get to brass tacks here: this place is a haven for the late night party people who come seeking the Saturday morning fountain of youth. The coffee is good and refills unlimited, the food is greasy and the portions healthy (albeit bland), and usually (in the mornings), most of the diners wear their sunglasses inside not because of Corey Hart, but to shade their delicate red eyes from the slightest ray of sunshine.

Overall, it's a great bargain for a hangover breakfast (about $6 on average) that won't break the piggy bank but may have you reaching for the Pepto.

Note: the location of the bathroom in such close proximity to the kitchen is perplexing, made even worse when you can hear simmering bacon while doing your business.

Their standard breakfast is impeccable. Everything is cooked perfectly to order and they can serve a descent sized group a hot meal without staggering it. But the dining room is really quite tiny, so try to avoid it in groups of more than four, which can fit inside a booth.

Also, the service can get really rude and dismissive during a rush, but it's hard to hold it against them. Otherwise they fit the bill, despite what I've been told.

In summary, you get a plate of breakfast slightly better than typical Main st with attitude slightly better than typical  Main st. Despite that, it's definitely a typical Main st fixture.

Not that nice, but definitely cost effective.

Finally checked out Nice Cafe yesterday, and it hurts me to say that I was thoroughly disappointed and I left unsatisfied.  When you first walk in, it looks like a totally cool diner, which I love because I'm always looking for cool places to eat.  Booths all along the right side of the restaurant and tables in the middle that could be separated into tables for two, or pushed together for larger parties.  I likey so far.

We got the last booth, which has broken green vinyl seats, which I still thought was cool, but once my food and drink arrived, that's when everything went south.  My Spinach and Feta Omelette was bland and was not fluffy at all; I ate half of it and left it.  The hashbrowns were good, but at the end it was just two huge pieces that were uncooked and stuck together.  The toast was fine.

Thank goodness the bill only came out to $16 and change, for two people.

I must give credit where credit is due...the service was good.

Cute little place that would probably take days to find if it wasn't for google maps.  Coworker suggested this place for breakfast for it's cheap prices and generous portions.

Tried it out a couple of times and it was alright..but I should have stopped when I had to use the bathroom..which was loacted in the KITCHEN!  GROSS!

Service is good.  The waiters and waitresses are nice but nothing to write home about.

Food..it was okay..also nothing to write home about.  I will agree on the generous portions and price.  I love shredded hashbrowns and they do it justice.

The last straw was when they gave me a fake $5 bill.  It was most likely an honest mistake...but meh.  I haven't returned since.

Exactly what I was looking for. Just a classicly made diner with everything you need to satisy your gullet. All the classics are here: BLTs, French Toast, Grilled Cheese Sandwiches, etc. None of it done fancy bread with nuts in it or anything like that. Just How It Should Be. It ain't healthy in the slightest, but whatever, a life without vices would be pretty crappy.

Expect a modest wait on weekends but, trust me, it's well worth the wait. Atmosphere is good as when I have gone, it's usually pretty busy which makes for decent people watchin'.

I've been back a number of times due to its proximity to me and each time I've been happy with everything I've gotten.  Granted, my most recent visits were at odd times of the day when there aren't that many people in the restaurant which may be why service was so much faster.

I've ordered their breakfast a couple of times and it was much better than the other time I've had it before.  Their hashbrowns never disappoint and are fried and seasoned well.

I think I prefer their breakfast menu to the lunch sandwiches they provide which are just okay.  Again, its comfort food for when you're having a rough day.

We went here for a late breakfast at noon on a Saturday. It was busy, but not crazy. Usually if you want to eat on a weekend morning you have a looong wait, neck deep in hipsters.

I would give it more stars if I ate meat or eggs -- this place serves up a lot of both, so it seems like a good place to fill up on a hearty traditional brekky (read: grease-alicious).

Service is very friendly and the coffee came promptly. Nothing fancy, just a hot cup of brown, but the refills kept coming so it balanced out. You can't be a coffee snob all the time! Just hand me a half-dozen creamo and sugar packets and all is well...

My pal got a big plate of hashbrowns, ham, toast and eggs for about $5. I got a fruit salad. I wasn't expecting much from a diner fruit salad of course, but d'ja know what it was? Half a brown banana chopped up over half a bowl of brown Mac apple bits!! Tee hee! Not even a lowly grape to jazz up the scene!   If I offered a fruit salad on my menu I'd at least keep a can of Del Monte cocktail on hand to pop open on the rare occasion some weirdo asks for it!

They take cash and debit, no credit cards, but since the bill came to less than what's in your sofa right this minute, you won't be needin' VISA.

If you come on the weekend, you're gonna wait in line- but I always consider that worth it. It is really yummy food, after all!! And a really good price for what you get, too.

Unfussy and simple, Nice Café offers diner-style breakfasts at very reasonable prices (less than $10 for everything on the menu).

For the hungover set, this place is a fluorescently lit haven. Patrons are addicted to the hash browns, friendly staff and casual atmosphere. Breakfast is served all day long; but for those with a hankering for something a tad heartier, there are beefy burgers and steaks available. Word to the wise, the fruit cups are a bit wanting but the omelets are consistently good.

I heart Nice cafe for one big reason, the hash browns!!!!! I can't find hash browns like this at any other cafe in the city and I miss them, they are the shredded kind and I love them so much.
This place can get really crowded but their no-frills menu and super cheap prices keep me coming back. They have really traditional food but sometimes that is just what you need. The crowd that goes is entirely hipster and the place looks likes it's out of the 1950s so you kind of feel like you are in a different dimension.
Go early if you don't want to wait because the hipsters usually flood the place by 10ish.

Thanks to Yelp I checked this place out last weekend.  It's my favourite breakfast place in Vancouver so far!  The prices are reasonable and for it being busy all the time, the wait is only about 10 min.  The Spanish omelet and side of hashbrowns and sourdough toast was $6 and delicious!

A good place to meet up for breakfast with a group of people. The wait staff seem more than happy to push together rows of tables in the already cramped dining area to seat as many people as you bring with you.

Great prices on the staples ( pancakes, toast, eggs, hash browns ) and I like that you can mix and match items to create a customized breakfast too.

Felt a little weird when I had to go thru the kitchen to get to the teeny bathroom, but got to chat it up with the nice lady cook while I waited for it to become unoccupied.

I've heard nothing but great things about this place and it did not disappoint.  I love this part of town, and many of the hole in the wall places to be discovered.

Nice Cafe had a lot of regulars, friendly servers, near art on the wall.  Oh yes- and good food.  My husband did his favorite breakfast- over easy eggs, toast, and bacon.  I opted for a bagel with cream cheese.  Yumm.

Service was quick, and I think this could be an ideal weekday breakfast spot.  Grab a quick meal before punching the clock.

I always get take out from Nice Cafe as I work nearby.

    1) They forgot the patty on my burger.  How do you forget the main part of a burger is beyond me?  I called them to let them know the error; they didn't believe me and made me bring my whole take-out container back to prove to them that I didn't have a patty.  Kitchen staff was haughty to me until they looked into the container and realized that they did leave it out.  Ooops

    2) My burger was stone cold another time I picked up my take out order.  Boooo

    3) They forgot the salsa and cheese on my mexican omelette.  I called, let them know the situation.  Went back to get the missing condiments and they were pissed at me that I didn't bring my take-out container back in to they could see the evidence. They had the audacity to tell me that cheese and salsa was an extra XXX next time I wanted extra.  SUPER PISSED OFF!!!

Save your money and go somewhere else better is all I can say.

You say you want a greasy spoon with a pleasant atmosphere, sweet helpful staff and prices that will allow you to buy that bottle of tequila you wanted for lunch? then you want the Nice Cafe!

I love this place, the price is right, the Mexican omelets are flying, the burgers are cheap and greasy, the staff are always fun to chit chat with and they all seem like nice people.

Their coffee isent bad either, if your looking to pickup a coffee before work you would do much worse to drop by the Nice Cafe and for $1.60 you get an extra large coffee to go, that's awesome!

If it wasn't late on a Saturday and raining I would go there for a Mexican omelet right now.

I was surprised to find this little hipster diner because a) I am literally obsessed with all-day breakfast (I want to name my unborn children Huevos and Hollandaise) and b) I live in this neighborhood.

I was over-my-hammie about this place the second I sat down and ordered because: there was jam on the table (something I always like to have at b-fast joints), the hash browns were shredded (ahhh yaaaa), the coffee was flowing like water, they offer sourdough (another thing I always look for in a breakfast establishment), and pretty much all prices for breakfast items were under $7.00.

When you are on or near Main Street and are needing an all-day breakfast to cure your hangover/hunger, forget Reno's and The Sunny Spot and Helen's Grill...try the Nice Cafe. Note that I placed a qualifier in this last sentence: the Nice Cafe is good for *breakfast* but I would never eat here for lunch or dinner, as their greasy-spoon meals cannot compete with the diverse fare available north of Broadway.

I've always wanted to go here for breakfast.  I finally did a few months ago.  I know that this review is old old old, but I can confess that the service and the food in consistent and in line with the name of the place.  It is a nice Cafe!   Really!  One of those places you just have to try, even if it's once.

Here I got to enjoy a conversation with my daughter (and my son, who barely whispers) whom I get to see only once in awhile.  Between our busy hectic schedules, we were able to have a magical morning of coffee and conversation while the rain poured like Vancouver should..
I dunno, the place just brings me back good memories of my younger days.  It was nostalgic.

Food is affordable and their coffee is pretty good too.

overrated. The eggs were ok, nothing special. The only good thing was the price. Pretty reasonable

Nice Café is nice, with pleasant service, a quaint and homely ambiance, and deliciously greasy food. The seating is pretty squishy, and it gets really cramped during the rush hours, but the food is always fast and fresh.

They have great omelettes, and homemade hashbrowns that are meshed and crispy. There's also a list of "make-your-own-breakfast" side dishes that are cheap and perfect for the finicky eater. Plus the daily specials are usually pretty good, and the coffee is prompt and bottomless. I like to get the banana pancakes, made from scratch and perfectly sweet with only a dab of fake maple syrup.

Another "nice" thing about this restaurant, aside from the fact that the waitress looks like Shelley Duvall, is that you have to go through the kitchen to access the bathroom. It's something that seems inconvenient at first, until you realize that you get to personally review the cleanliness of the kitchen before you eat.

Is by no means fancy, but it is relatively more spoon, less grease than many simple breakfast joints. I like the option to upgrade to organic eggs for a nominal sum. The shredded hashbrowns offer cripsy goodness.

I can't really share any insight on the weekend line ups. But I can say it would do well to increase the sidewalk seating, especially given the line that forms at around noon on a sunny summer day.

Nice? You're better than that, Cafe!

Me and my amigo found this place by accident when we were curious about the side streets of Main. We never got to try it out together because our Main Street adventures always started late in the afternoons and Nice Cafe closed by 4pm.

One day, I was in the neighbourhood just before 3pm and decided to try it, excited because of my past experiences from a similar Breakfast All Day cafe on Denman St.  This place is definitely great for folks who like good old fashioned breakfasts!!

A little nervous because I was by myself, the waitress was super friendly! I went on a weekday so it wasn't busy and I was granted the power to sit anywhere I wanted. It was particularly warm and I got comfortable outside, where the guy next to me raved about how much he loved the place.

The menu was predictable and familiar, which is great because I'm not too keen on being too adventurous with breakfasts. I ordered  a glass of orange juice, which was made with real pulp. They had me at pulp. I ordered quite a big plate: 2 eggs, toast, and hashbrowns. But seeing as how inexpensive everything was, I called the waitress back for their hashbrowns (which was so crispy, and so good!)

The service was so attentive, probably because I was only one of the six people there. The food was excellent, coming from somebody who hasn't been awake to have breakfast since I turned 13.

If I'm ever out on Main before 4pm, I'm looking at you, Nice Cafe.

Nice Cafe looks as if it would be an awesome greasy diner. Their veggie burgers are pretty decent. But for a greasy, cheap great-for-hangovers breakfast? No, this place sucks. The servers are super nice, which is too bad because the breakfast sucks.

You would think scrambled eggs are hard to screw up - ours came recycled-grease brown, cooked-too-long chewy, and hacked to pieces. We looked at other people's tables, and they had the same kind of looking eggs - so this wasn't just bad luck. Everyone marvels at how cheap this place is - it actually isn't, especially for the crap food you get.

$7 is cheap for Vancouver, but there are a lot of other better places you can get a $7 breakfast. In fact, right around the corner is Kam's Bakery, which for $5 will get you a better breakfast including coffee.

Nice Cafe wasn't even satisfactory for us - we'd rather go to Denny's (at least they know how to cook scrambled eggs there).
