Review from Rachel C.
Don't laugh at me, but next to actually going and seeing the wonder that is Niagara falls, this place is tops on my list (drinking wine wasn't included in this consideration...that may have thrown things off here).
My parents had suggested going here: my mom saying it was cool and my dad saying it was "okay." Everything is just okay to my dad, so you really can't go with his opinion much! The place was way better than okay and closer to cool...how about, an incredibly unique experience.
Before you go in there's a big display of all the different kinds of butterflies in the conservatory. You walk into the room and it's just COVERED with beautiful butterflies. You literally have to watch where you put your hands and feet because there could be a butterfly there! They'll also sometimes just come and sit right on you, just chillin' like you're a tree.
You really don't realize how cool they are up close until you're literally eye to eye with one. Some of them kinda just hang out and look pretty while others, like this awesome blue butterfly, just fluttered all around, basically not sitting still (not event to take a quick pick!). I chased it around the entire time, but it was an active little bugger!
There's also a section where you can see the butterflies at different stages of hatching. Some are tiny and just starting out and some there's a butterfly literally hatching out. It's really an incredible experience!
It's just a short drive from the falls, so if you have the chance to drive there or catch a tour bus there, absolutely do it! Only $13 for admission and 100% worth it! -

Went here this afternoon. It was OK. I mean if you like butterflies, go. But for $30 for two adults for about a 10 minute slow walk through, I thought it was a bit pricey. Lucky kids under five are free.

I absolutely LOVE butterflies!! Since I was small I use to run around catching butterflies with the butterfly nets so it brings so much memories. My boyfriend was not interested, but I still dragged him to go and even HE ENJOYED IT!
There were so MANYYYY butterflies, there were so many colors, why are they so beautiful ?
P.S Don't touch the butterflies b.c the grease on your hand will harm them (worker caught me waving my hand around like a little kid) -

If you love butterflies and tropical plants, you'll be in sweaty heaven in this place. I do mean SWEATY. When they offer for you to remove your coat and hang it in the complimentary coat hanger area, take that as a warning: it's stuffy and tropical in there! I saw several people carrying their coats who apparently didn't realize they were stepping into a hot zone. Considering it was in the low 30s outside, we were all a bit overdressed.
These creatures are fabulous! Hundreds of butterflies, sharing the same space with you, flying all around your head, possibly landing on you if you're lucky, and watch where you step -- they hang out on the ground, too. See how the same butterfly looks brown one second and bright blue the next. Awesome.
Of all the times for my camera to go on the fritz...arghh!...we relied on using our much lesser quality phone cameras. Believe me, we sure missed the 12 megapixel goodness when it came to capturing the beautifully detailed patterns on these intensely gorgeous animals. Some of them had a wingspread wider than my hands!
Take notice of the butterflies eating off plates, where they have "do not disturb" signs. Too cool. That brown-to-blue thing really got me. Amazing.
The many varieties of plants were stunning backdrops for pictures. Wear something you want to be photographed in and enjoy! Friendly folks offered to snap us, as we did in return. In fact, everyone seemed really friendly and to be enjoying themselves. How could they not, in a place full of gorgeous butterflies? (Unless you're Nicole Kidman, of course...she's got a painful butterfly phobia I hear.)
I'd allow at least an hour if you want to get a good look at lots of butterflies, or even longer if you want quiet contemplation. This is a great place to do that. Come in from the cold, it's always warm!
The surrounding park grounds are very lovely. Would have loved to stroll leisurely among the trees and take pictures with the numerous black squirrels, but we didn't have time. Come here to take pictures if you need a beautiful backdrop. -

This is totally worth the trip. The butterflies are beautiful and everywhere you look.
The conservatory itself and its plants are quite pretty.
The gardens and trees surrounding the conservatory are attractive and worth walking through. -

I was groaning a little when I found out this was part of the package tour, expecting a cheesy kiddie zone. But.....it was actually pretty cool! Butterflies landing all over everyone, wide variety, great pictures of colorful guys eating oranges and sticky stuff.

Fun fun! We really enjoyed this conservatory. A butterfly even landed on my shirt for a while. Wish we would have had more time to walk around the outside gardens.
There were so many beautiful butterflies. -

When you first walk into the conservatory, your senses become overloaded. There are butterflies everywhere & you are immersed in their world. Everywhere you look there are lush plants filled with butterflies. They say there are more than 50 different species of butterflies in this tropical environment, though perhaps I cannot distinguish them all as we saw ~15.
It's a great place for taking photographs... I must have taken about 50.Listed in: What to do in Niagara Falls…

I wasn't all that excited to visit.... But my bf always likes to try something different.... This place is great! I was just like a little kid trying to catch these beautiful little creatures with my camera!! Not an easy trick! Doesn't take too awful long to visit, but definitely worthwhile!

This place is beautiful!!! If you buy the activity package it is included in there. Not only do you get to walk around the butterfly conservatory, but you also get to go around the botanical gardens, and let me tell you, this is the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Plus, they offer carriage rides and they are for a reasonable price considering the fact that this is a tourist hot spot. It is a little far away from everything else, but definitely worth it, plus you can take the trolley ride to it which is also included in your package.

Although interesting, it was not really worth the price IMO.
It was a rainy day so it was something to do until things cleared up.
It is a nice place to take photos, but after 10 minutes it gets old.
I thought the park and gardens around the conservatory were far more interesting. -

This was a very interesting place to visit. It was raining outside so we couldn't do the grounds but will if we ever get back. Tons of neat Butterflies everywhere but had a hard time getting pictures of the big blue ones. Most wouldn't hold still long enough to take a good picture!

I can say with complete heterosexuality that I like butterflies. I know
that they flit around and look pretty and stuff and that most people
would think that a guy who likes butterflies is a little light in his
loafers, but I'm not, so lay off! The Niagara Butterfly Conservatory is
really on of the must see sights in Niagara Falls. The room is not very big, imagine
a big tall green house, but inside are more butterflies than you can
imagine in a sorts of shapes and sizes. There is a path you follow that
takes you through the treed tropical grotto and as it winds it way it leads you past
several plates of fruit where dozens of butterflies are feeding and posing for photos. The really
neat thing about the butterfly conservatory its that you get to see the butterflies
right up close and most likely one will land one you. I definitely
recommend the butterfly conservatory to anyone visiting Niagara Falls,
because you can only look at falling water for so long and then you need
something else to look at.

The Butterfly Conservatory far exceeded my expectations -- it was an absolute blast. There are butterflies, in all sorts of colors, everywhere. They fly around you, they land on you, they land on other people who don't notice... As you can imagine, this leads to plenty of great photo opportunities. Once you're done wtih the Maid of the Mist, etc., head here.

by far one of the most unique and amazing attractions. I've been to butterfly conservatories before in various places, one being the Bronx Zoo in NY. None compare to this. From the second you walk in your are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of butterflies! They are EVERYWHERE!!! You can really get up close and personal to them. One even landed on Chris' head for a while. It was amazing to see all the different kinds and how they moved around. They had a very interesting are set up with actual butterflies and cocoons undergoing various stages of metamorphosis. Fascinating!! I could have spent hours just sitting and watching! They were also many different species of plants/flowers growing. One hot pink plant called Chenille was so beautiful and like nothing I had ever seen before, it looked even more amazing with butterflies on it!

I love this place. Its a great learning experience for kids, staff is really nice. There's huge blue butterflies that tend to go straight for peoples heads (scared my sister - 1 at the time) there are more than enough photo opportunities. Very nice and a must when visiting, the gift shop is pretty awesome too, I also noticed that they weren't that outrageous on pricing. Should hit the Botanical Gardens before and after too.
