YUM!
Stopped into this cute little place to pick up some items for a picnic lunch on the lake. We picked up the following:
A Cornish Pasty - very very tasty. great crusty and incredibly seasoned filling.
Spinach and Feta Roll (Spanakopita)- flaky pastry and good tasting filling
Sausage Roll - good spicy/sweet sausage inside delicious pastry
The desserts stole the show though:
Chocolate/Peanut Butter Tart - this was good but not our favorite.
Butterscotch Tart - very good
Butter Tart - truly gluttonous! This tart was amazing! I wanted to much more than the 1/3 I had when split with my family! My stomach is rumbling now just thinking about it.
There were so many other tasty looking things that I wanted to get as well. Niagara Home Bakery is definitely worth a visit during your trip to NOTL. -

This might be the cutest bakery ever, run by the nicest woman ever.
While I was looking around, an elderly woman walked in and said, "well, isn't this place just delightful?" And I wanted to turn around and say, "I KNOW, RIGHT?!" But that might have been weird.
Anyway, delightful is the perfect way to put it. A huge case on the left with more baked goods than you could ever imagine. More sugary goods fill the rest of the store, but when I walked in I saw the one thing that makes me stop in my tracks at a bakery - iced sugar cookies.
Now, not all iced sugar cookies are created equal, folks. I like mine a certain way and it's hard to find some that I like. I bought one here with a pumpkin design on it, put it in my bag, and forgot about it until I was at work back in Chicago the next day.
The cookie was perfect. Chewy, not overly sugary, and mouth watering delicious. I want MORE. Damn it, Canada, why are you so far away?!
And that nice woman who works here? She didn't give me one bit of trouble when I asked if it was okay to pay with US money. (Though I guess since this is probably normal for them, but it made ME happy.)
This is a "must do again" stop for me the next time I'm in NOTL.Listed in: Niagara on the Lake, I like…

I was famished when i popped into the bakery in search of sustenance. I got myself a tiny little apple pie which i had them heat in the microwave for a little bit.
The pie was pretty good, but i wouldn't say it was amazing...also, at $1.88, it was quite pricey for the size -

I read about Niagara Home Bakery on Yelp before our trip and it got a really great review so that was why we even went into the area. I was hoping for maybe some kind of pastries or donuts but they're really just a cookie/tart/pie shop. So we got a few cookies to try. A raspberry thumbprint (one of my faves) and some weird brownie looking thing that had coconut and other stuff in it that the Mr wanted to try. The thumbprint cookie was good but bordering on dry. The other thing, I took one bite and downed some water. It tasted like coconut and some kind of rum or something. Yuck. I was really disappointed but the lady at the counter was super nice. We may have just chosen the wrong things to sample.
