YUM!
I try to avoid carbs but New Town is one of my few exceptions...
Their steamed buns are inexpensive and consistently tasty, what more can you ask for?
Huge portions that are packed with filling and comes in three varieties -I love them all (from the pork asado, chicken, to the bola bola deluxe). Its $2.00 for the deluxe (sausage & egg yolk inside) and a dollar-something for the chicken and pork.
Cash only! Have yet to try the egg tarts and other selections..
My friends from the States always make it a point to buy dozens of the steamed buns whenever they're in town and just freeze them.
Oh, recently, I went after 6pm and they said it was just 50% off for the pastries, excluding the steamed buns. -

Funny how some ppl forget there's another one other than the original chinatown...
Just don't think the egg tarts taste as good as Vancouver's...
Probably the other advantages coming here is a bit cleaner than Chinatown (though it's been renovated) & easier to find parking. -

Get the buns people!! Never disappointing. Bola bola or spicy pork for the win!!
Tip: the buns are 50% after 6pm
butttt the question is - will they last? A few selections were already sold out when we visisted at 4pm (spicy pork)
CASH ONLY -

A poor cousin of the eponymous operation in Chinatown.
Egg tarts were decent size/flavour but the crust was an odd consistency-the rest of the goods on offer unremarkable.
Service was snippy/off putting/just short of outright rude.
Place overall was grubby and disorganised too many other operations 'n the hood that offer more for the money.
And speaking of money the awful women who took my order decided to round the amount up rather than bother making change-I could tell from the tight nasty look on her face and the glitter in her eyes this was how she got her revenge on customers for 'bothering her' and I wouldn't hire that woman to clean my bike tires let alone revisit any place that would keep someone like her on staff. -

FANTASTIC siao pao! if you ever go here, buy a dozens and freeze them! they reheat really well and you can't get anything close to this yummy in seattle.
FYI for bringing them back to the states--the special that contains duck egg will be confiscated at the border. -

I just love their pork asado and chicken bola bola siopaos. There is nothing like it at home in Seattle and they sure beat Chow King and Red Ribbon's siopaos hands down. I usually buy two dozen to freeze.

If it's your first encounter with New Town bakery, feel free to try one of each buns to figure out your favorites. Mine used to be spicy pork buns and this trip, I discovered the chicken deluxe bun (chinese: Da Bao) and it has a delicious blend of pork, ham and salty duck egg yolk.
Be there early for the best selections, they DO sell out.
Also note the address should be on No.3 street not No.1 -

Really Attractive.....selection of desserts. My top 3 favorite desserts here are apple tarts, ling fen gao(it's like brown sugar jelly or something), and also bai tang gao(looks like a white cake). I've tried other ones but I seem to come back to these three. Their curry bun and bbq bun are pretty good too. I have yet to try their chinese buns but heard they are humungo.

MUST STOP HERE! DO NOT PASS GO! Love it - we always come here for our "big buns" filled with flavorful beef, chicken, or pork with veggies covered by a milky white sweet yumminess! We usually get the bola-bola bun (comes with everything) and the pork and veggies bun, but I haven't had anything that wasn't great here! I've also tried the apple tart, sponge cake, butterfly cookie, and BBQ pork buns - everything is soooo good! Drool ~~~~~

This is the only place I will buy my shopao from in BC. The Pork Asado with the sauce in the side yumm. The lady speak fluent cantonese, tagalog, and english. Buy 6 or more so you don't have to pay for tax.

Whenever we are in Richmond visiting family, New Town is a must-stop for the best Siopao (Asado and Bola-bola)... Nothing can beat fresh made steamed buns. Too bad we cannot bring them back in San Diego like we used too.

Went to pick up some Tai Pows (big steamed buns) from New Town in Richmond. These are pretty good! Interesting mish-mash of pork, ham, braised pork and a salty duck egg yolk. The buns are huge, thus the name Tai Pow!
