Today was the first time I lined up before New India opened - and it was worth it!

The folks ahead of me actually ran into the restaurant, claimed their seats, and bounded to the buffet.

And I can tell you why...

A fresh,  full to the brim tray of chili chicken, just smothered in big chunks of onion and green pepper and hot spice and gorgeous aromas. The yogurt raita, smooth and cool beyond compare; fresh tomato salad to cool the  bite of the chilis. Lamb curry with chunks of wait, (!) lamb in it...(arrive later and the early birds have skimmed out the meat)

Lots of chutney and big squares of coloured jello - which I love on my curry. The cauliflower curry was so dense and might I say, magnificent!  Soft, perfect naan, just as it should be.

New India has been my go-to joint for Indian food for these reasons:

    - ample amounts of raita and chutney, serve yourself. Other places charge $1.50 for a tiny portion.

    - all you can drink chai tea! Served here unsweetened so remember to add sugar if you prefer it sweet. Other places charge $2 - $3 per cup.

    - gulab jaman to die for - along with kheer - included in the buffet price.

    - the best view of the north shore mountains!

The buffet is both carnivore and vegetarian; two separate sections just full of well-spiced offerings. There is always at least two curry veg, and a lentil and chickpea dish - also a soy curry.

The spicings and recipes are basic home style cooking, tasty and filling, with a good variety offered. Usually four salads depending on the season, and fresh fruit is always put out.

The clientele is interesting; from research scientists to real estate lawyers, to bike couriers, to doctors, to skater boys. All ethnicities - the most diverse grouping - all here to indulge in tasty curries along with ice tea and mango juice.

Lots of cutlery and napkins, a jug of water served at each table, cheap beer and friendly staff. Booths are comfortable. A great place for AYCE lunch at Broadway and Willow - right at a 99 BLine stop!

    Washrooms are upstairs and clean.

Buffet...the word that sometimes means quantity not quality. It can sometimes result in full tummies at bargain basement prices. But there are circumstances where a buffet can be an ideal situation for the indecisive foodie. So for you my friends I would like to share my Indian buffet of choice.

Hidden away on Broadway and Willow is the New India Buffet and Restaurant. I have been enjoying their gourmet cuisine for almost 2 years now and being a bit of a curry buff, I haven't found better. They pride themselves on offering great value and gourmet food.

Their main feature is of course their Indian buffet. Containing 40 different items including fresh baked naan bread, crunchy wonderful veggie pakora, and rich creamy butter chicken. They have taken the time to include a great salad bar that also features home made rice pudding. If you have time to sit in for lunch or dinner, try to grab a seat close to the windows or on a nice day, the patio. They overlook the Vancouver city skyline with the mountains in the background, one of my fav spots to take an out-of-towner. While enjoying your rice pudding dessert, you can savor a mug of their custom brewed chai. Creamy and spiced, the perfect warm up for a Vancouver autumn day.

If you work anywhere near New India but are short on time, fear not! They offer a $5 lunch box packed with 5 items. My choice is usually the Butter Chicken and Aloo Gobi which comes with rice, salad, and naan. Probably the most competitively priced lunch anywhere in the area. They are fast, friendly, and offer amazing food...what more could you ask for.

As far as all you can eat Indian buffets go, this is the best Vancouver has to offer. Now, this isn't to say it's the best Indian food in Vancouver because, well, it's not.

Keep in mind, I am reviewing AYCE...

Go right at 11:45 am - 12:00 PM. This is when the food is freshest and hot. If you go between 2-4:30 PM, you will be sadly disappointed.

Hands down, this is one of the best patios in the city. On a nice day, it's great to sit out there and check out the false creek view. Also prevents your clothing from stinking like curry until you wash them.

The Indian buffet at New India tasted flavorful, and I liked the variety. The staff constantly change out the dishes to be fresh.

I don't plan on returning mainly as I found the staff somewhat unfriendly, and I disliked the required minimum of $15, which effectively requires you to order the buffet, and the can't-take-home leftovers rule.  While I understand the latter, just know you are ordering one dinner plate as you would elsewhere, except you can sample a few entrees.  Your stomach will be the same size eating here as elsewhere.  While the ambiance was nice, the wait staff seemed a bit hasty and non-attentive.

But man, I wanted some veggie pakora and chutney and some rice 'n spice (vegetable biryani is my favorite)! :D If you're on Broadway in BC and crave Indian, it's worth a try.

If it were possible to give a 0 star review of this business I would. This has been my fifth trip to this restaurant, and before I had no complaints. Sure it was alright. The price is okay for lunch, but the butter chicken and naan aren't that great. Overall if you asked me before today I would have said "meh".

Today I went for the buffet and everything was cold and watery on my plate. I proceeded to tell the hostess that there was something wrong with my food, and she came over and brought me a plate of the butter chicken sauce and said I was wrong. She accused me of tampering with my plate in order to get free food, and that she had had over 300 people in here for lunch today with no complaints. After she told me to get get a new plate if I was so unhappy, she repeatedly kept coming back to say nasty things to me. I sat there with a shocked face and got so angry that I went to pay my bill so she would stop harassing me. She rang me up for the buffet (she let us pay for 1 buffet instead of 2), and I walked out of there completely appalled with the way I had been treated.

My advice: don't go unless you won't complain about the quality of the food.

I never thought it was possible...for an Indian restaurant to impregnate me.  But yes it did, surrounded by romantic views of False Creek under Saturday night's twinkling stars...and now I have an Indian food baby.  God, I'm stuffed.

Great 20% check-in offer from Yelp.  Dinner buffet price is really not bad for the selection of fresh food ($16.95) and the check-in offer sweetened the deal.  My only beef is they make you work hard for your food.  With so much sauce, you're in danger of eating nothing but sauce and carbs (naan or rice) if you don't work your arm in the pots and hunt for meat.  I also wished they asked me if I'd like a lassi, but I guess everyone's there to be romanced by the buffet so they don't even bother telling you (til I asked at the very end) that we in fact, had the option to do a la carte.

My boyfriend and I went here on Valentines day and had a wonderful dinner. They had a very big buffet with fresh naan bread. We were very happy that one of their dessert options was sweet rice as you don't often see this on indian restaurant menus. The quality was good and the atmosphere was friendly! I would like to go back, writing this review is making me hungry!

yummmy! We stumbled across New India Buffet & Restaurant after discovering the place we wanted to try down the street had closed at 7pm... Having already fed the meter, we saw signs for this Indian place and were sold when we saw the people love us on Yelp! sticker on their door.

The restaurant interior is very nice, stylish, and best of all impeccably clean. They offer free wifi (very strong connection), which was great while I was waiting for take out!

Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese) - 4/5
    - the consistency was not as concentrated as dishes I've had in the states, but  the kick of spiciness was great
    - had a hint of onions, but not terrible
    - consistency of the cheese was also more dense than I've had in the states

    Butter Chicken - 4.5/5
    - great flavor, still the consistency was not as concentrated as dishes in the states
    - chicken was very soft (and even when eaten as leftovers!)

    Regular Tandoori Naan - 2.5/5
    - large portion (4 large pieces in one order)
    - wasn't toasted enough, chewy texture and hard to tear off

    Garlic Naan - 3/5
    - the garlic naan was definitely better than the regular naan, but it still had the chewy texture
    - was advertised as wheat naan, but it was obvious white

    Pros:
    - to go orders are cheaper than dine in price (2 entrees and 4 orders of naan was around $30)
    - free parking http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
    - free wifi
    - open later than other restaurants in the area!
    - comfortable seating
    - check in offer (20% off for dine in)

I was debating whether to try Saravanaa Bhavan or New India Buffet. I chose New India because of the variety and advertised 40 items. We came in on a Sunday for the buffet around 2 and there was practically no one in here, just two other tables. Nice atmosphere, so far all the Indian restaurants we've been to are very spacious and have nice decor. There was a lot of variety to try from. I like how there are signs of the food but I couldn't really tell which was spicy or not. I found practically all the curries a bit spicy.

    Like
    - The Chai tea. included in buffet.
    - Beef(I thought Indian ppl don't eat beef!) and buttery chicken curry.
    - Spring rolls(my mom's only favorite item).
    - Rice pudding had an interesting taste.
    - Yellow sweet rice.

    Disliked-
    -  I felt some of the curries were watered down. Couldn't tell which was spicy or not.
    - Naan was a little burnt and not fresh. They leave the Naan at the buffet table so it gets cold quick. Suggestion is to bring them out when customers arrive so it's fresh. But when asking for fresh ones they made new ones and delivered it to our table, it tasted really good and improved our experience. It's all about the Naan.
    - Garden spring mix salad looked old.
    - Old french fries.
    - The fried vegetable ball was hard and cold.

The problem with having a 40 item buffet is maintaining freshness of all items at all times and avoiding waste. Compared to Maurya Indian Cuisine, I liked Maurya more even though they had less choices because all the curries tasted fresh with a lot of flavor not watered down. I also constantly saw food being refilled constantly which is a great sign.

I had food coma afterwards, drained all my energy.

Saravanaa Bhavan, your next on my list! I avoided you for a while because you were a vegetarian indian restaurant. Can't believe all 3 restaurants are all on west broadway.

Went here on a coupon for the buffet.  It is pretty dead here.   Looking for vegan options on the buffet, not a lot.  Most have cream, cheese or meat in them.

We filled up on rice and papadums and alu gobi.  The food was just ok. But by the end of the meal we didn't feel so well.  Even the next day I was like ok... something is not right.

I have no idea why the advertise that the chef is health conscious and uses the minimum quantity of oil and ghee to make the dishes because that's clearly a lie.  It's very greasy, swimming in oil and you feel nauseous and heavy after eating it.

I regret buying the coupon, next time we'll just go to All India Sweets for a buffet or get entrees at another restaurant.

The view is beautiful here but this place is old and dead and not so great.

    I love this place.
There is actually chicken in the butter chicken, its not all sauce!
I am still new to Indian food, but I have to say this is my favourite place to eat in Vancouver.
It's never been busy when I have gone, it's very clean, and there are tons of dishes to choose from!

I am not vegan, so I love all the chicken choices!
Mmm can't wait to go back!

Indian buffet is one of those things, that if you plan it right, can fill you up for an entire day, leaving you to roll right out of the restaurant.

The buffet, while reasonable at $14 a person at lunch, was decent.  Unfortunately, there was no dish I can say that 'stood out' as particularly well done.  Most dishes were good, but everyone was missing something.  The peas and paneer was great - but there was little paneer to be found.  The aloo gobi was ok, but tasted much different from other recipes - likewise, the butter chicken tasted like they had used tomato soup in the recipe (they probably hadn't - but it tasted sweet like it).  Everything was just a little...off.

Will I go back?  maybe, if friends are convinced this is where they want to eat.  But I probably won't be searching it out on my own - there are other indian buffets in town that I find more to my own tastes.

Good bang for your buck.  Wife was craving some butter chicken, so we decide to make use of our entertainment coupon.

Food is consistently above par.  Popular dishes on the buffet line are fresh, as the chaffing dishes put out are quite small.

Pricey without the coupon @ $16 per person.  Would not come here if we had to pay regular price.

As a vegan, I don't think I would go back to New India. There aren't all that many vegetarian options and most of them have cheese. I paid the same amount as everyone else (a whopping $16 for the buffet) and had basically three things to choose from. It's worth the five minutes it'll take to walk down the road to Saravanaa Bhavan - except that they don't offer a dinner buffet.

    Great view, though.

This is a great place for Buffet in the heart of the city.  The place has an amazing view; has a great beer selection; and tasty food.  The problem I always have about going here is I get too full. The richness of the food doesn't hit until 30 mins after you have eaten and then you are just beyond full.  Beware the indian buffet; do not eat too much; The Naan is tasty.

Mediocre food. Not bad, not great either. Went for the lunch buffet. Here's some things that stood out.

Highlights: The lamb curry- so tender, nicely spiced, very meaty. I could've eaten a whole vat of this stuff. The butter chicken wasn't bad. Rice was well done. Surprised to see french fries in an Indian buffet but it was actually really crispy and good. Self serve chai and coffee was wicked and tasty. I was buzzin' off the Chai. Oh, free parking in the underground off of Willow is sweet.

Disappointments:1) Veggie pakoras- hard as hell! All dough, no veggie. Could barely swallow the damn thing. 2) Samosas- or the lack of. Boo. They had "mini samosas" which were basically frozen egg rolls warmed up. 3) Egg curry (hard boiled eggs in curry)- strangely spiced.... couldn't put my finger on it but it didn't taste right. 4) Naan- chewy, like its been let out too long.

I love Indian, and I love all-you-can-buffets even more. New India hit the spot for a quick fix. Skip it if you're looking for something spectacular.

As far as Indian buffets go, this place makes the mark. We took advantage of the 20% off deal and ate ourselves silly. There were a dozen options for main courses, including several vegetarian options.

For parking, they have free underground most nights which I wasn't aware of until it was too late.

This place is great for large parties.

This is OK for a buffet - decent selection and it's very clean and well-organized, and the free parking off Willow is a plus too!  (Came for the $14.95 weekend buffet lunch).

The items are grouped with salads, Indian veggie options (chick peas, cauliflower and potato curry, yogurt curry, cheese and spinach curry, etc), meat options (tandoori chicken, butter chicken, beef, lamb curry, egg curry), some fries, tiny samosas, naan, rice, pakora and a couple of dessert items.  Coffee, chai and some punch is included in the price.

It's pretty good value and there's something for most people here.  Downside is that the quality is only so-so.  Naan is pretty dense and some of the curries are a bit runny.  That being said, it's still an A-OK buffet and when you're starving and need an inexpensive meal, this is a good stop!

The lunch buffet did not sit well with my crossfit class later in the day. That was expected though. I had already planned to go for lunch with a couple of friends and I suspected it would not be the wisest choice on that particular day.

But it's not you, it's me.

This buffet, tucked into a little mall style frontage on Broadway has one of the best vistas of the city, and you'll find yourself drifting away from the meal in front of you to gaze outside.

The food is quite good for a cheap-ish buffet, which will set you back $12.95. It's got all the necessary items: Tandoori chicken, butter chicken, pakoras, lentil curry, spinach and cheese, veggie curries, and others, as well as naan bread and papadums. Also offered is an array of salads, fruit and jello. Also, it's licensed, with decent pricing on beer.

Fairly decent Indian buffet for a good price.  There are always coupons out there for deals on the buffet so keep an eye open and clip those coupons before your visit.  My favourite is the $5 lunch takeout special - 2 curries, salad and naan bread.  Deal is on until 3pm so run over during your afternoon coffee break, buy two and heat them up for dinner ($10 for two is pretty darn good).  Good service.  High turnover on the buffet so food is fresh.  Popular lunch spot, quieter for dinner.

Easily my favorite Indian restaurant of the city. The buffet is unmatchable. Over 40 dishes to chose from. Suiting both vegetarians and meat eaters. Numerous salads. Love the coleslaw and potato salad. Tandoori chicken and butter chicken are popular.  Egg curry and aloo gobhi are amazing. Free chai tea is bonus with one of the best views of downtown and lovely Indian indoor décor

The staff is welcoming and courteous a good selection of wines and beer too. Alot of office people take the 5$ lunch boxes but we aren't one of them as we would fast for a day before so that we can splurge on the delicious food buffet style. LOL It has never disappointed us whenever we go there sometimes twice in a day Funny thing is when we went to Eat Vancouver we ate at new India.  They also have a separate menu apart from the buffet for people who like to order

I really love the egg curry it's to die for

My favorite all you can eat of all time

As far as Indian buffet's go, this one was pretty good.  We had a staff dinner here and I was already late coming in from out of town.  I just made the tail end of the dinner, but was still able to get some veggie grub at the buffet.  I was surprised that it was pretty tasty and I even made the attempt at the butter chicken which surprisingly had LOTS of chicken!

Of course the rice was a bit dry and the Naan was dry too, but then again, I arrived when they were close to closing.

Staff was helpful and the Chai was good too.
How did I ever miss this place when I used to just live 2 blocks away?
I'm glad we had out dinner party here.  It was worth  the trip.
I would give it a 3.5 stars,  but a 4 star  is warrented for the service and the fact I came kinda late, and they still fit me in and let me eat and drink as much Chai as I could guzzle.

Yep, decently good food a decently good price.  Unlimited chai with the buffet which is a nice bonus.

Nothing stands out as being exceptionally tasty, but there is no question that the selection of dishes at the buffet is very good.  Lots to choose from for vegetarians and carnivores.

This is one of the more expensive Indian buffets around - not saying the value is *bad*, but I don't think I've gone without an entertainment book coupon (and not sure that I would).

We've been looking for some really good Indian food since moving to Vancouver.  Today we decided to go for their 2 for 1 buffet lunch.  When we arrived, I said to the person seating guests that I did not have their 'coupon' for the 2 for 1, did I need one?  He shook his head "no" and said to sit anywhere we wanted so we sat down, he poured water and said to help ourselves to the buffet.  After eating, we proceeded to the cash and he insisted we now needed the coupon!  We protested but he didn't give in so I said we would pay for two but never go there again (the food was so-so, mostly cold to lukewarm, most dishes were so soupy you really needed mini bowls for each of them).  We paid and left.

When I got home, I found the 'coupon' (in my purse actually) and it was only an ad, not a coupon - it only said the lunch buffet on Wednesdays were 2 for 1 until a specific date in August.  The ad at the bottom said with you the coupon, you could get 20% off any food!

Mediocre food, really poor service and the piece de resistance of the bill?  Never again!

I had been to New India a few years ago and found it to be decent, so when we were craving Indian and absolutely starving last week it seemed like an obvious choice.  We used an Entertainment Book coupon, which gave us a 2-for-1 cost on the buffet.  We stuck to water and thank god we did, because with tax and tip and ensuring the coupon had been applied we were still out $35, which is beyond pricey for the quality of food.  Strangely, everything was quite bland except for the yogurt curry and of course gulab jamun (being 99% sugar helps).   The butter chicken was not worth the calories--just not rich/thick enough, and lacking in general flavour.  The chicken itself was tender and moist though.

The view is great though, and there's a huge patio.  Ambiance is better than expected, as was the service.  There are also pretty good beer specials if you can manage the idea of consuming beer at a buffet.

My love for Indian food is only second to my love for... Indian buffet!

$13.95 lunch buffet seems pretty reasonable with the vast selections, great service, clean and inviting interior with a patio overlooking False Creek. A large sign on the buffet spread encourages everyone to change to a clean plate each trip - Vegas style. I like it!

Seeing the gorgeous spread is eye candy, and would make any curry craving stomach grumble and churn! Clean and spotless buffet divided into the salad bar, rice and naans in the middle, veggie offerings in one side, pakoras and samosas next, meat and tandoori dishes in the corner. Chai, coffee, peach nectar and fresh raspberry juices across the buffet table, oh what to choose! Did I mention sweet saffron rice, kheer, and gulab jamun? Partaking of this requires a carefully laid out plan of attack. But alas, plan of attack begone, and see-food attack takes over. I just eat whatever I see! Mwahaha.

Regretfully, I didn't have the last laugh. Yes, egg curry was tasty, but everything was just okay, bordering on meh. Nothing outstanding comes to mind at the moment, I've had better spiced and flavourful dishes at other Indian spots. Their naan was thick, dense, un-flaky, definitely not toasty. The butter chicken could use more thickness, and though not bad, it had a different kind of flavour I was not accustomed to. I felt the taste of the dishes belong to a small stall in a food court.. watered down-a treasure hunt to find the meat-sort of thing. Only the crispy papadam and cup after cups of soothing chai saved this from being two stars.

Good lunch spot only when in the area, but if looking for that Indian cuisine wow factor, I would certainly skip this.

Honestly, I don't like this place at all!  After a 1/2 a dozen times of dining here at lunch, I deciced I will never return...my co-workers & sometimes lunch gang like it, as they love AYCE places.  Me, not so much.

I guess if you like carbohydrate overload it's perfect!  Honestly, I cannot find anything I like on the buffet after repeated visits!  The food is just edible in my opinion.  Not once have I ever said, "wow, that's good".

Now, that being said, there are a lot of items on the buffet.  Veggie dishes, meat, desserts, etc.  There is definitely a lot of choice.  The restaurant is nice, service can be spotty depending how busy it is, but never bad.  The music has been too loud & drove me crazy while eating a couple of times - loud drum beating music...  I think my lunch partners grew to love watching my displeasure while eating at this place!

But I'm free now!  Not going back!

Great food, good service & beautiful views.

What a gem!  We had buffet.  Packed full of flavor and value. Well worth the price.  Will come again.

Given their location tucked off the road this place needs to work for their business and they do a pretty good job.

Since my office is close, there are a number of people that take advantage of their $5 lunchbox.  For this you get butter chicken with a veggie side dish, naan bread and a small salad.  Definitely one of the best values on broadway for lunch.

I've only eaten at the restaurant buffet once.  It was pretty good, good selection and tasty food.  They actually have a very good view of downtown from their deck.

This place is ok but not the best cheap Indian food. There is no order with the food, everything is mixed up. So your butter chicken tastes like the sweet syrupy dessert that is next to it because I'm sure people have accidentally dropped some of it over the chicken dish.

Go to Main Street for better buffets.

My boyfriend and I love indian food and tried out the New India Buffet & Restaurant and it has now become a favorite! They have a lunch box for $5, they have a lunch buffet that is $10 and a dinner buffet for $14. They have great dishes such as Butter Chicken, Daal, Palak Paneer, Lamb Curry. They also have cozy little booths with a great view of downtown Vancouver. It's a great little place for some fantastic Indian food!

Don't get me wrong I still love the food here, the ambiance/city view is still great, and the same goes for the service, but after my last visit I felt like the food from lunch needed to be refreshed for the dinner menu. Or just a little more care taken, so the food doesn't build that dried layer on top of the sauce! For that I am dropping the rating down to *3 Stars*. I would also like to find a little more lamb in the lamb curry and fewer bones!

Okay  food.  Not warm enough, a bit too salty.  Went with my 12 year old daughter, who ate  one very small plate.  Yet they charged the full $14.95 for her.   I had asked before we ate  and understood they charged less for under 14s.  The guy running the place forgot all about that by the time the bill came.  This may have been a language problem with our initial conversation, but I don't think so.   His response was rather smug and unpleasant.   Didn't want to make a fuss in front of my daughter, but I'll never go back.  For myself, the price was okay, if you're planning to eat a lot.

We love to go here and think the food is great. We have gone a few times where there was no chicken in the butter chicken, no chai tea and no naan. Everything was replenished except the naan and we were there for 45 mins and they kept saying it will be out in a few mins. and it never did.

This is the perfect lunchtime spot for anyone working in the area. They have an amazing $5.25 lunch box for take out only that fills you up completely. It comes with a serving of butter chicken and a vegetable dish of your choice and rice plus salad. It's absolutely huge for $5.25 for lunch!! Or if you want to eat in, they have a daily lunch buffet that's only $10 for a huge selection of foods - including 4-7 types of salad, a huge variety of vegetable dishes, and an even bigger selection of meat dishes. And in addition to all this, the buffet also includes complementary chai!!

If you like lamb curry go Thurs-Sun all you can eat. As with most AYCE don't expect too much, having said that food is pretty decent with lots of variety between vegitarian and meat lover selections. Did I mention $11 off with entertainment coupon? Free parking downstairs at dinner time. Give this place a try, just don't start comparing it to Vij.

I love indian food and nothing gets better than Indian buffet!  On the weekends they have the egg curry and my sister loves it. If you are looking for Indian food on a weekday, something quick and inexpensive, come here. No wait time. Its great because they also offer fruits (apples, oranges, and bananas) if you don't like any of the salads or desserts. The service is great. And there is free parking underground after 6pm, can't beat that in the area everywhere is pay parking unless you park residential zone two three blocks away! Please do not reuse your plate :)

For any one looking for authentic Indian food -- please don't go here! The food was horrible, Nan was hard and stale.  When we asked for fresh nan, we were told we will have to pay extra for that!  Kheer was sticky and stale. There are other places better than this.
