Review from Darren M.
Ottawa, ON
New Edinburgh Park is most famous for the annual The Lumière Festival. The evening event is a really spectacular showing of flickering and glowing lanterns being paraded through this beautiful green space.
What I like the most about this area is actually Minto Bridge, which is quite and old structure that connects the park area to Green Island and then on to the lowertown area of downtown Ottawa.
The park has some amenities such as parking and washrooms and I believe most winters they have a skating rink. It's a really good neighbourhood, surrounded by very old historic homes where the people take great pride in their community so it's fairly safe even at night.
In the summer you can see turtles sunning themselves in the Rideau River and you're a short walk from the Ottawa River and if you want to relax in the park and later grab a beer well you're only a few blocks from trendy New Edinburgh or not that far from the Byward Market too.
If you plan to launch a canoe or kayak in the Rideau River take note that you can't access the Ottawa River from here because of a large waterfall under Sussex Drive so you're limited in being able to only really go one way up the Rideau River.
