Review from Amy T.
You don't need to drive all the way to Kits to enjoy a huge grassy park with water views. New Brighton Park is just across the street from Playland/PNE.
This park has a beautiful view of the mountains and the Burrard Inlet. What I love about this place is that it makes me feel as if it isn't 2012. It's a mix of the new and old coming together to provide a comfortable place to read or think. You'll see modern facilities such as a playground, swimming pool and tennis courts, while tug boats and old style cargo trains pass by. Enjoy a picnic or let your dogs run free in the off-leash areas any day of the week here. -

Wow. You know how you can live right near something for a while and not check it out and when you do, it's like "OMG. how have I not come here before?!"
The park is lovely and clean with grass to picnic on or play. Sit and read in the sun, enjoy the amazing unobstructed view of the inlet and mountains, and the 2nd Narrows Bridge. You can watch the freighters being pushed by tug boats to a nearby mooring.
Dogs allowed in the off leash area.
This park is underutilized but I can easily see forward to a future of discovery and improvements, (like maybe a concession stand? or cafe?)
Until then it's kind of coveted as a local secret -and I'm here to invite everyone over! -

Vast planes of grass, a small swimming pool behind the burrard inlet, tunnels under the railway tracks covered in graffiti, and fenced off areas where people sometimes fish or make bonfires, despite legislation. That's New Brighton Park! Right between the Iron Workers Bridge and the docks, where no one really pays attention to the coast.
There's old ruins of buildings, a swimming pool and public washrooms, long snaking footpaths, and a noisy highway, but otherwise the space is pretty much uninterrupted grass. A good place to get all moody through our world famous overcast, or to throw the dusty frisbee during our sixty days of sunlight!
