Yummy yummy. This place is owned by the same people as Number 1 noodle house and also the Beefy Beef Noodle restaurant on Main St. so of course you know it's going to be decent.
How decent you ask? The best part of the meal was the stir fry rice cakes. My favourite XLB mini steam buns were a fail. How is it a fail? "Where's the soup in these buns?" I guess they steamed it too long and it ran away.
Had a couple other dishes such as salt and pepper pork chops which was delicious.
I had dinner here a while back too and it was good so I definitely recommend it. Don't be scared away by the Best Western hotel. -

I feel good when I eat here. This place is so bright and looks scrubbed from floor to ceiling. Very different from it's exterior since it's in the Best Western Kings. The servers seem really aloof, but since we come here a lot (they either enjoy or dread us, I'm not sure) we usually get their attention pretty quick.
I normally have lunch here. I have never been here for dinner. They have a great lunch menu and if I go with a bunch of people, we mix it up and eat from the special menu and the regular menu.
Here is what I normally get:
(Lunch Menu) Deep fried cod with cream corn sauce on rice $6.50
Wonderful. I usually hate fish, but deep fried and covered in corn is the way I want to have it for the rest of my life...
(Lunch Menu) Singapore Style Noodles $6.50
It's not the usual bright yellow like other Chinese places. They rely on small red chilis to bring on the heat. I love the noodles. The shrimp, barbecued pork and veggies are cooked perfectly.
(Regular Menu) Pea shoots with garlic
Wow. I never had pea shoots until this place. I reek of garlic back at the office, but it's worth it. If you have never had pea shoots, this is the best... postively the best.
(Regular Menu) Eggplant with pork in plum sauce $11
Sometimes we get the spicy version. Again, I never had eggplant this good. I was told that they fry it and then sauce it. I had preconceived notions that eggplant was slimy. This is just so good. I have to scrape the sauce off the dish... I don't care at this place. I NEED this eggplant.
The dishes are huge, even the lunch ones. Sure it's more expensive, but it's worth it. I don't feel like sleeping after lunch and I don't need to drink my weight in water either to get rid of the salt... and I don't think (I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure) they use msg. -

The New Age Chinese Cuisine Restaurant is nestled under the Best Western Hotel but their yellow sign is clearly visible from the street.
The decor is simple, bright and clean but unfortunately because of it, the place is quite noisy. Everyone there tonight spoke Mandarin and looking around you won't see a Caucasian face in the room as it feels to me like it's more catered to Chinese speaking clientele. I am uncertain how fluent the waitresses are in English but the menus did have English translations on it so you can always point to the item you want if it comes to that.
Quite a few items on their menu are spicy so be prepared for that, however, you can always request that it be made milder for those with more sensitive taste buds.
Even though it was a full restaurant, the kitchen was able to pump out the dishes quite quickly, almost TOO quickly... However, this makes New Age a great location if you're in a bit of a hurry. This brings me to reservations. Customer turn around is pretty quick but if tonight was any indication (Sunday at 6pm), I would totally recommend reservations ahead of time to ensure minimal waiting time.
Everything we ordered was quite tasty and in return, you pay a bit more than your average Chinese restaurant. Only one dish we ordered was a little questionable. I don't recall the name of it, but it was a Wintermelon dish with clams. Problem was, in the entire dish there was only about 5 clams. Apart from that, we had no problems with everything else.
I found the staff was a little short sighted and unless you specifically flagged them down, don't expect them to check up on you too often. The hostess was a little rude as well. While she was taking our order, the phone rang and she yelled across the room for another waitress to come finish taking our order and walked off to take the call. I just feel that it could have been better handled.
As a side note, New Age also serves bubble tea but I didn't try it out so I can't say how theirs would compare to a place that solely serves bubble tea like Estea which is just a few minutes away. -

Ate at this place 3x, they serve their food really fast after ordering, and they all taste pretty good. However, someone always gets diarrhea after eating there... can't be a coincidence, right? My boyfriend has seen them drop a spoon on the floor and put it right back into the bucket...
