Definitely an underrated alternative to No.9...not only is it a bit less busy, but a bit more nicer decor and chairs too.

Food-wise, it's hard for me to compare since the few times i've been here, i usually order wonton soup, since i usually come here late at night, and watching my waistline.

Fast, cheap, and good service, so why not.

Safer too, compared to No.9, if you've heard about the robberies in the parking lot!

Honestly, this is probably the place I frequent the most when I want Wonton Noodles or I'm in the mood for congee. I've had other dishes from here as well and would describe the food as delicious, and in a way comforting. For the price of less that BK value meal, you can get a variety of noodles and congee.

My family and I have come here at least twice and both times I can say that we've never left unsatisfied with the quality of food. It's the type of place that is still quite busy at 10 pm at night, but they close at 2 am every day.

The service isn't necessarily outstanding but it isn't bad. You wave them down,  they take your order and then if you need the bill you wave them down again. Quite standard for a Noodle House. Don't expect special treatment.

Be warned that this a CASH only place in Richmond as well.

And they have a big screen TV shows Chinese tv dramas, or news, and during hockey play off season they show Canucks games.

I first heard about this place maybe a couple of months ago, and have probably been back at least 5 times since.  Neptune Wonton Noodle (not to be confused with Neptune Seafood Restaurant directly next door) reminds me of the era in the 1980s before the Asian Invasion of the Lower Mainland, a time when the selection of Chinese restaurants was actually quite limited outside of Chinatown, and consisted mostly of mom + pop "hole in the wall" type places.

So let's start with the initial impression.  Even before you step inside, there are a couple of things that come to mind.  There is ample parking thanks to this restaurant being part of a strip mall (unlike the restaurants along the north side of nearby Alexandra Road), and the interior is actually surprisingly clean for a Chinese restaurant.

Now I haven't had all of the dishes, but of the ones that I have had, they definitely do them right.  My personal favourite are the Wonton Rice Noodle (wun tun hoh) and the Dumpling Noodle (sui gao hoh).  Not only are the wonton and dumplings larger than most other places in recent memory, (they serve 5 with the dish) the taste is fresh.  The noodles are never soggy or mushy (ie overcooked), just the way I like them.

The Empress chicken (I ordered this one on a whim) is also done very well.  It is not too salty (common mistake), and also not oily!  Served with the usual oil + ginger, you can't go wrong.

But the wild card for this place?  I must say it's the "cold spicy shrimp".  The friend who brought me here told me I simply had to have it, and he was absolutely correct.  If spicy food is your thing, you MUST try this.  The dish is.. cold prawns (with the heads still attached), covered with some seriously awesome spicy chili oil/sauce.  For $11 for a large plate, you really can't go wrong, whether you're going with 1 friend or 5.  This dish is not on the menu itself, but is written against the back wall.  Just a tip.

No matter when you go (including weeknights at 10pm), this place is always at least 2/3 full, and let's just say there's a reason.

Now go eat some cold spicy shrimp~

I like the food. But service sucks, and the wait was long. They don't ever say anything to you. When they take your order, they make you feel like you are wasting their time. They were so rude.

Their chicken is good tho, and their peavines with dried shrimp and garlic was also good. But that's about it.

    Nothing special. =(

    Neptune Won Ton Noodles

A few years ago, Neptune Won Ton was one of my familiy's favorite
restaurants.  It would often be our first stop in Richmond and we
    loved the food.

Their specialties at the time were most often their chilled spicy
shrimp and their solid soup noodles.

At our visit this time, Neptune seemed a bit less busy than prior
visits over the years.  The menu appeared unchanged and we decided to
order the chilled spicy shrimp as well as a rice dish.

For some reason, the rice dish with bean curd and vegetables took a
very long time.  Another patron who had ordered a to-go order
experienced a similar wait and was about to just cancel her order
given the wait.  I'm not quite sure what caused the delay.

The chilled spicy shrimp came out fast though and I was excited with
anticipation. I remembered the great flavor and spice and the
extremely fresh shrimp.  But with my first bite, I could tell the dish
wasn't quite the same.  The shrimp, rather than being quickly flash
cooked and then chilled, was cooked more thoroughly.  The chili oil
was a bit one sided as too.  Overall, it just wasn't as good as I
    remembered.

When the bean curd and vegetables finally came, it was actuallly very good.

I didn't order the soup noodles this time, so I can't comment.

Neptune had it's run but in the interim a lot of Chinese noodle soup
restaurants have opened and Neptune has fallen quite a bit from 5
years ago.   In a pinch, I'd go again but I'd probably opt for
    Michigan or Tsim Chai first.

I came in here for a quick lunch with a colleague, having had a donut earlier I wasn't all that hungry.

I ordered a snack rather than a meal, plain congee with and order of deep fried squid tentacles. This dish should take at most 10 minutes to make.

The food was pretty good, congee was a nice thickness with a small bundle of very tasty scallop on top. The squid was also pretty tasty with good spice and good crunch.

The service is where this story takes an unfortunate turn. When we came in we were sat right away and then immediately ignored.

Waiting a few minutes before having to ask for a menu ( there was about 4 other tables all already eating.)

I ordered the above and then proceeded to play the waiting game.  My colleagues noodles came almost immediately kind of surprising that it can come faster than a bowl of ready made congee with nothing in it.

A few minutes later my congee came (it's plain so I awaited my squid). Ten minutes pass from this point before I grow bored and start texting. I ask where my food is and then wait as another ten minutes pass and my friend is finishing up, all the while my food is getting cold. Fed up we ask for the bill which takes another several minutes. As the bill arrives so does my squid, I look at the bill half expecting a discount, but sadly there wasn't one not even an apology. I merely receive an excuse that "it takes a while to fry the squid because it comes from the other side of the kitchen."
Well good excuse if the kitchen is the size of Stanley park but I know that's the case as I've seen their kitchen.

Don't put it on your menu if you can't make it.

Well I scarfed down my food as my friend went for a smoke, I won't make any excuses I'm a disgusting eater I eat very very fast. As I'm literally pigging out on my food the waitress comes and cleans up my friends food and then proceeds to take mine away as I'm very literally pigging out. Well that was the last straw I threw down some cash and left. Needless to say I won't be back.

A cornerstone in the noodle/quick eats scene of Richmond, this place has me coming back for over a decade. A combination of quick service, tasty and consistent Chinese food and parking that's not stupid hard to find, sign me up.

Ambiance (2.5/5) - Generic Chinese noodle shop decor and it's clean.

Food (4/5) - For the price, this place is hard to beat. Their deep fried spicy squid is well made and crispy without being too oily. As well, I like their satay beef with vermicelli hot pot, great on a cold winter day. The menu has a wide array of noodles and congee as well, so come back a couple of times to try out a few of them!

Service (4/5) Fast, efficient and polite. Never had to wait long for anything, be it getting seated, food being served or asking for the bill.

FYI, it's cash only and they also do take-out.

One of the tried-and-true Chinese restaurant in Richmond. It's been around forever, twenty years or more? The sister restaurant Neptune Seafood is right next door, but this is my usual late night snack spot.

"House speciality" is a cold plate shrimp dish, delicately flavoured so the freshness of shrimps shines through. Also like the
home-made octopus meat balls in soup with rice noodles.

Awesome (if not a bit oversized) wonton. The fried chicken knee would probably raise an eyebrow or two but weren't bad either.

NOTE: This review was originally posted on 08/11/2009. Yelp took the liberty of deleting this review and restaurant listing altogether and then joining it to the other restaurant, Neptune Sharkfin Seafood, which is a more expensive restaurant with a different suite number. One accepts credit cards. The other one is low end and cash only. Contact your reviewers first before you make goofy changes like these. They are NOT the same. Really. It's that easy to find out.

Neptune is divided into two restaurants situated side by side in a large compound along Ackroyd and No. 3 Road. Neptune Seafood is the more expensive and bigger restaurant with the red awning, open only during lunch and dinner. The more casual spot, Neptune Wonton Noodle, is open until late nights, with the green awning entrance. Having tried the Seafood Restaurant for a group dinner previously and all of us enjoying it, we stopped by again this time at their casual cafe for a pre-dinner stop. Their wide menu selection was well organized, separated according to specials of the day depending on the time. You will notice everything is cheaper from 2pm-5pm and late nights. They likewise offer $2.50 dimsum plates prior to 11am daily.

Service, as expected was friendly, fast, and efficient. The ambience is very similar to cafes in Hongkong - busy, alive, and totally bustling. Aside from wonton noodles, varying selections include congees, hotpots, set menus, chef's specials. We opted for the empress chicken as most tables seem to have this. Very similar to Singaporean Hainanese Chicken such that boiled chicken was served cold with pounded ginger dip. That and some tofu served in a claypot, nice! All dishes were delicious and abundantly portioned given the prices.

Very good cheap eats, and highly recommended for late nights. Like most noodle shops, cash only.

After a cold harbour dinner cruise with horrible food i decided to warm up with a bowl of wonton noodle soup at Neptune Wonton Noodle. It hit the spot with a plate of yui choi with garlic. I arrived just before midnight and it was three quarters full but they do turn the tables quickly. Typical chinese service nothing special but that is what I expect from the HK restaurant.

I've been coming to Neptune Wonton Noodle since I was a kid and it's one of the few restaurants I regularly go back to. On my most recent trip back home, it had the honours of being my first stop after I landed in Vancouver.

It was 10:30pm on a Friday night and the restaurant was packed! Not having had dinner yet--since I was saving my appetite for yummy Vancouver food--I was absolutely famished! Even on the plane I was thinking about which dishes I wanted to get and as a result I definitely had a case of "eyes wider than my stomach". Luckily, my mom sympathized with my deprivation of good Chinese food in SF and let me loose when it came time to order :)

The menu is quite large and contains all the usual suspects--congee, noodle soup, fried noodle, tossed noodle, fried rice, snacks, meat/seafood entrées, and some Chinese desserts. They also have a large selection of "night snacks" available from 9pm-2am. Like most Chinese restaurants, the service was prompt and the food came fairly quickly. (Thank god!) True to my over-ordering self, we got 7 dishes and 2 desserts between the two of us. They were all FANTASTIC!! (except for one). Everything was so flavourful and yummy that I kept eating well after I was full.

    - Sliced fish with thousand year old egg and cilantro soup (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Yum! Flavourful broth with a great combo of ingredients and a strong peppery taste.
    - Stir-fried water spinach with fermented bean curd (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Lots of fermented bean curd flavour with some spicy red chilies to give it a little kick.
    - Shrimp wonton and shrimp & pork dumpling combo in soup (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Huge plump wontons and dumplings loaded with fresh crunchy soft shrimp (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) so flavourful there was no need for red vinegar.
    - Sticky rice wrap with abalone and conpoy in bamboo leaf (http://www.yelp.ca/biz..., http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Tasty but I've had better. Pricey too--there was only one teeny tiny abalone (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...) that I had to tear apart the whole dish to find.
    - Chiu chow-style fish balls with flat rice noodle in soup (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): I LOVE THIS DISH!! I haven't found fish ball noodle soup as good anywhere else. The AMAZING broth is creamy and flavourful, fish balls/slices are soft and "bouncy on the teeth", noodles are perfectly cooked, and bean sprouts and preserved Chinese cabbage add crunchiness with the latter adding even more flavour
    - Sautéed tiger prawns with spicy eggplant (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Incredibly flavourful with lots of garlic and dried shrimp
    - Whole mullet fish on stove (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Fish itself was ok but it can easily get overcooked on the tabletop stove. The best parts were the sour-but-well-balanced broth and the fragrant Chinese celery.
    - Black sesame paste (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): BAD BAD BAD!! First, they burnt it and I had to send it back. (They refused to just cancel the order and made us wait for another one.) Although the second one I got wasn't burnt it was still really gross--bland, lumpy, and clearly made from a mix and/or thickened with corn starch.
    - Chocolate flavour ginger milk pudding (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...): Another favourite that I get every time. Very strong ginger flavour with a hint of chocolate. Love the soft not-quite-solid-but-not-quite-liquid custard texture.

After this late dinner I was bloated but happy. I got back to my mom's house, threw my luggage to the side, and collapsed into a huge food coma. I woke up still feeling stuffed the next morning... It pretty much set the tone for the rest of my visit =P
