Nelson Canyon Park
Contains many trails, the two main ones are the Whyte Lake Trail (almost in its entirety) and the Trans Canada Trail, which leads you from the Trail Head Parking Area (just off Westport, South of the TCH) up to the start of the Whyte Lake Trail at its southern-most tip.
The Trans Canada Trail continues to the east from here and towards North Vancouver. The Whyte Lake Trail, continues north-westerly from here past Whyte Lake, including a view trail that takes you alongside the lake itself and ultimately the trail joins up with the Baden Powell Trail, just shortly after leaving the Park.

Grade: Moderate to Moderately Hard. Traversing along the trail is a moderate hike, including some wet bits, a fair degree of rocky, rooted, or uneven surface in places and a very steep grade starting the trail as you ascend into the park from the parking area. Moderately hard rating for you bush-wacking, adventuresome types who like to go off the main trails and take the less traveled routes.
We've enjoyed hiking these trails for few years now. Many many years for my partner. Of late we've found their popularity has increased to the point that we no longer find it the relaxing outdoor commune with nature we used to. We encounter people who talk so loudly we can hear their conversations for miles, people who barely notice us (or the nature around them) because they are so busy on their handheld devices, and people who are so perfumed/scented that we wonder if they thought they were going to the opera. Troublesome is the number of dogs let run off-leash in areas where it isn't off-leash. Yes it might be nature, but it is part of a watershed area and some of the park areas contain ecosystems that they are trying to maintain, undisturbed. People, if your out of control animal encounters a bear and comes running back to you with a bear chasing, your perfume and loud talk might not be sufficient to deal with this beast. I might find you offensive beyond belief but I'm not a bear. And God Forbid, your nature experience be ruined by an unfortunate incident.....
Rainy or cold day, and week days, this place is a lovely quiet sojourn. Which is when we may limit our future adventures here.
Reminder: This is nature. It might start a metre from a well used highway but when you walk into the woods you have to have consideration for nature. This is bear country. You could get lost. Always consider these things while planning, and during, your outing.
