    Free wi-fi?

    Plus

3.99 turkey and cheese sandwiches? On a doughy, soft ciabatta bun? With pickled carrots and red peppers?

    Plus

    An awesome americano?

Is this a help-me-I'm-hungry oasis or what?

Perhaps it was the combination of these things, mixed with a convenient location and liberally washed with the sun that beamed through the windows, but I must admit... I am smitten!

Catch me here more often than I probably should be, because for sammies like that, it's almost more affordable than the grocery store.

    * Location, location, location *

I've passed by this  place many times and it always seems busy.  I never knew if it was because of the lack of cafe options in the immediate area or because there was something magical.

I think it was because of the lack of options, as it was decidedly average.

Many of the sweets were wrapped in saran wrap - never a good sign for me.

The double espresso was a bit bitter on the finish and weaker than I like.   Photo:  http://www.yelp.ca/biz...

They do have their location going for them, and clearly it is keeping them in business!

Nebur King Coffee just opened this past October. It's a quaint little coffee shop run by one man, who owns and operates it seven days a week. There's not much here in the way of atmosphere (bad fluorescent lighting and stale black and white checked flooring) and it follows the basic grid of most coffee shops. They serve a modest range of croissant sandwiches, vegetable and sausage rolls, and pizza.

I have yet to actually eat anything there but I can attest to the fact that their soy lattes and house blends are amazing. Strong and none too sweet.

I truely hope the place takes off.  Every time I've gone in or walked past the same man is running the counter.  Presumably the owner, he works hard for the success of his establishment.  The drinks have a good kick to them.  As a caffeine enthusiast, this is crucial for my coffee shops.

The place has no ambience.  Too bright, uncomfortable seating and uninspired music.  This is a good spot to take a coffee to go, but I couldn't imagine spending an extended period of time inside.  Coffee shops need to feel comfortable.  Still try the java, it's a good sip.

I wonder what a Nebur is.  I saw someone who could be the King in question and both he and the lady working with him were very friendly.  This small cafe has only about 4 tables and they were all busy on the weekday early afternoon when I was there.  There is very little decor here but it has big windows and if you are lucky you might see an Important Person coming out of Il Giardino  which is just 1/4 block away. There is a selection of sandwiches, sweets and even individual pots of Activia yoghurt.  There is a variety of interesting coffee alternatives here and the prices for food and drink are very reasonable.  My espresso was smooth and had a touch of sweetness.  They also have the uncommon Espresso Con Panna on the menu.  Something interesting is being brewed just behind Burrard's heavy traffic and higher prices.

When Nebur King opened I was delighted to finally have a coffee shop across the street. It's operated by one guy, Gord (although as of late there seems to be another person helping out through the day). The service is very friendly and the prices are great. I picked up the salami panini with a raspberry mocha for under $10. The atmosphere leaves a little to be desired but I generally get stuff to go, so it really doesn't matter.

Sorry for the nice girl that welcomed us but she did not get any training and kept on denying our latte requests from the place menu. On top of that they advertise free Internet but it was not working. We decided to walk out after 10 minutes before even getting any drink. If the owner reads this, it might be time to take your business seriously again ....
