I was really excited to try Navarra as I LOVE tapas and their menu looked gorgeous. Very happy to say it did not disappoint at all! We ordered 5 tapas and enjoyed every last bite. Service was awesome, our server Jeff was extremely helpful as we were a party of 4 and wanted some of the more substantial dishes. There are 2 seatings, 6:30 and 8:30 and I know from personal experience it can be a bit of a clusterf*ck flipping the whole room at once especially on a Friday night but the staff handled it seemlessly. My Ginger Gimlett was outstanding and I loved the candied ginger garnish. If you like ceviche you must try it. Scallop Ceviche made to order with lime-citrus, aquachile habanero, shallot , jalepeno, lychees, mint, and tostadas. I could have eaten 5 more orders it was so delicious!
I've read people calling it pricey but with the right choices you don't need to break the bank. We had 3 cocktails, a bottle of Cab and 5 tapas and got out of there spending $60 each including a 20% tip, all of us, boys included, feeling very satisfied.
And a really nice touch having Aveda products in the restrooms and actual hand towels rather than paper towels.
    Great job Navarra! LOVED IT!

More times than not I've been disappointed by highly hyped up restaurants in Ottawa.  Navarra, not the case.

I came by for Sunday brunch with a friend of mine.  The place is really small.  I would say the dining space holds less than 20 people.  The decor is neat and has decorations and pictures of the owners travels.

The Sunday brunch menu I thought was interesting.  It had menu items from Spain, Mexico and Italy that I could visibly recognize.  It might have had items from other countries as well but they did not stand out to me.

I ended up getting a dish with potatoes and pig cheek in a tomato and red wine reduction with a poached egg and a slice of cheese.  My friend ended up getting the carbonara pasta.

My potato dish was very nice.  The tomato reduction had great tomato flavour that wasn't overly sweet or sour.  The potatoes in the dish were cooked perfectly and the pig cheek was crispy on the outside and extremely fatty on the inside.  I would warn you that if you're not ok with eating fat this dish might not be for you.  I cracked open the poached egg to mix in with the dish after trying each item individually and honestly it tasted pretty good.  It gave the sauce a very creamy texture.

Talking with the staff it seems that Navarra has moved to a tapas menu for dinner.  I will probably come back in the near future for tapas.

I'm very happy this place is here.  I now have 3 fine dining establishments in the Byward Market I can point people to.

The food really is delicious but it really is expensive and the portions are suitably haute cuisine.

Come in the mood for some good flavours, but don't come hungry.

It's densely tabled so don't expect a lot of intimacy.

Worth visiting a few times a year but don't get too attached unless you have the wallet for it!

Very good food.  All freshly prepared, lots of flavour and not the same old same old.  Going back soon!

Had a great lunch here (see pics) - side note, lunch is a great way to test out a new "hip" restaurant before committing to a full on dinner where you may very well be disappointed.

The ambiance and decor is subdued and warm, not flashy.  The essentially open faced sandwiches were all really well executed, flavors were clean, (heavy use of coriander for those who don't like it).

I'm a fan indeed, will be going back for dinner to really test the menu and lauded chef.

We went for a 2nd time in 1 week. On Thursday night, they had the regular menu and no flamenco music. I had gnocchi with cheese and asparagus. They put hot pepper in it. It was damn good. This place is a must go for Ottawa. The staff was still friendly. They tried to answer every silly question and catered to speal food requests... #1 place on my list.

I was just about to give Play food and wine five stars until I ate here. A-mazing! Their mini steak tartare was absolutely amazing, especially if you like a little spice in your meal. The portion was small but perfect for trying several dishes. The scallop ceviche (Sea Scallop Sashimi) was also amazing. Try the Tuesday night Taps deal where you can get 3 for $25. The beer was great too, they had local beers on tap. The music in the background was excellent if you don't mind lounge / ambient.

Pricey but worth it for a treat or a special occasion.  The food quality and presentation are excellent as is the service.  The beef tartar and pig cheek were standouts.  Like many Ottawa restaurants, their wine list is limited and leaves something to be desired.

This dining experience will go down in the annals of history as one of the best meals I have eaten. The evening started off with an amuse bouche of sliced chorizo atop some delightful crostini. I chose a well developed 2006 Priorat to start things off. This followed three thunderous appetizers, namely Roasted beets atop quinoa confit with goat cheese and mint, Mushrooms and fresh peas with fried chorizo and crushed coriander seed, and the most amazing Olives, firm and flavorful, enveloped in orange zest, pepper flakes and strips of fresh mint. These three almost made me decide to quit right there because I was so full. Finally, sense prevailed and it was time to decide between the Beef Tartare with Manchego or the Pig Cheek and Poached Lobster. I ended up settling on the Pig Cheek and Poached Lobster with a side of Manchego yay. The meat was rubbed with paprika and broiled crisp and tasty, served atop sliced mango. Lobseter, poached in butter, sat in a lemony sauce atop what i can best describe as banana nut bread. The entire plate was a work of art, with an arrogant stroke of tamarind sauce laying the foundation upon which the meat and seafood stood. A masterful, delightful dish. The Priorat kept up with every course. For dessert I chose more manchego with chorizo, and spent the rest of the evening getting to know my wine while indulging in some of the culinary-themed books that lined the nooks and crannies of this Top Ten New Restaurants of 2008 awardee. Well done. I will be back.
