Review from Rachel L.
Toronto, ON
This is your typical Asian nail salon. In the background music from a religious funeral ceremony played on repeat for the entire duration of my visit, the manicurist offered to bring me to her temple, and the walls are painted purple and decorated with generic 1980s beauty posters. Love.
My manicure was $15, my nails are in perfect condition, and I was delighted to see that the salon had OPI's Thrill of Brazil on hand, my go-to colour of choice. I asked that my nails not get filed down to death and I would say they're OK for the most part.
The setup is pretty no frills, but give its location and price, I feel like I definitely got my money's worth. I am a happy customer. -

I believe this place is closing down. I see a "FOR LEASE" sign in the window coming to and from work and the lights appear to be off every time I pass by as well.
I think the prices here are a bit cheaper than other joints, but there's probably a reason for that.
I've been here a few times so I feel I'm in a position to accurately rate this place.
The tools used are not sanitized before use (like they are at NAILSENSE). In fact, I don't think this place practices hygiene at all when it comes to their manicures. I could see dead skin flakes and pieces of nail covering the table in front of me while she worked on my nails. Yuck-o.
Just other small things like the volume of the music/TV (way too loud for my liking) and the fan that she used to dry my nails wouldn't stay in one spot (so weird. The extension cord kept pulling it away from me.) Whiny children of the employees were also around each visit I was there. I also noticed that their nail polishes were all crusty around the rim. They looked old.
The last time I went was the final straw for me. I came in to have my fake nails removed. I assumed my fingertips would be soaked in some sort of glue removing solvent to make for easier removal. But no. She physically PULLED the fake nails from my real nails, using a spare fake nail to wedge in between the fake and real nail. It was SO painful. I actually sat through it thinking this was the only way to get them off, but after speaking to some girl friends they assured me that what I experienced was a ridiculously barbaric method of removing false nails.
While the woman who I usually saw (I think her name was Anna?) was sweet enough, I somehow got coaxed in to teaching her English??? One of the times I was there she had some letter and literally got me to translate the whole thing for her. She had another notebook and was writing words in it and getting me to pronounce them for her and she would spell them the way they're pronounced. I feel bad because she obviously looked like she could have used some tutoring but I'm paying YOU to do my nails. If you want English lessons, you pay ME and maybe we'll talk. It made for some very un-relaxing "me" time.
Even if you wanted to come here, I don't think you could because it's closed... but just to be on the safe side if it is open, stay away. -

This nail salon is a pretty standard, pink-walled, pictures-of-women-with-acrylic-nails-holding-rando m-objects kinda place.
I went with a friend to get a mani-pedi, and since this place is super close to home, and had the standard $35 for a mani-pedi price, we decided to check it out.
There were two women working, and already two ladies getting pedicures, but they quickly set us up to soak our feet while they finished the previous pedicures. While sitting there, I noticed that one client was being particularly rude to the nail-person (nail tech? I don't know...) and she was making her re-do her paint job. It seemed rude and unnecessary at the time, but then that same tech ended up doing my nails, and it all started to make sense.
The woman doing my nails was beyond slow - she hadn't even finished with my cuticles before my friend had already had her toes complete, and was getting her final coat of nail polish. THEN her manicurist came and did my hands, all the while giving disapproving looks to the woman doing my toes. Once she was finished with my manicure, she promptly took over doing my feet, removing all the polish and starting again.
So the thing about this place, is that I would be writing a totally different review if I had got my friend's manicurist, but since I didn't, here is the two star review. If this was the only nail place in Toronto, I would consider going back, but since there is a lot of competition, I can imagine ever thinking it's a good idea to risk it again!
If you're looking for a cheap manicure, there are far too many places in Toronto to warrant coming to Nails for Best.Listed in: Hair Done, Nails Done,…
