A group buy for this studio came up in my e-mail a few months ago and I decided to give it a shot. $20 bucks for 5 classes is a great deal for any studio downtown so I didn't give it too much thought.
I finally got around to attending a class last night and was very glad that I did. Being that it's a new studio I guess they're still trying to figure out their schedule to see what works best for the community.
The class I attended was an Anusara flow class taugh by Robin. They limit their class sizes at Nagara to keep the classes small, luckily for me last night I was the only one so it was like I got a private yoga lesson!
Robin is a fantastic teacher, the flow sequence was challenging (I've been practicing yoga for a few years) and not too complicated, which I really liked. Being that I was the only one there she was always available to provide feedback for my postures.
The space is very calming and warm and makes for a great place to practice. I'd highly recommend to anyone to give any of their classes a try. -

I've been doing yoga for a little under a year now, and I realised that big classes don't allow for the instructor to help fix you, only major things and only if they notice.
That's why I grabbed a great opportunity to get a private yoga class here, as advertised in those group buying coupons. I'm really happy I did.
Steven, who owns this newly open studio is super nice and friendly. (Hi Steven!) He didn't pressure me to take more classes in the studio or with him, and was understanding that I take classes in other places and we could talk about that.
The space is really nice, providing both yoga and pilates (reformer). He has group classes with other teachers (8 ppl max) and he teaches privates. There is only one room, so when it's your private session, it's just you and the instructor.
I came because I want to learn how to properly do some poses and how to modify them to benefit me (I have really flexy low back, how do I do cobra to get at my mid back?)
We went through some poses so he can see how my body works. He gave some really good tips and made me aware of weird things I do. Extremely helpful and a excellent complement to your passport and yoga practice.
I like his style. He's very much into getting and out and doing the poses so as not to injure, and I think that's some details that instructors in the classes overlook or don't always correct the newbies. Yoga is something that's learnt, and everyone's always different, you body will respond differently. If you're new to yoga, you can't always do the harder stuff because you might get hurt if you can't do it properly.
It was good to get a perspective about the yoga practice from the instructor, why they hold the poses a certain way versus another. He suggested that although the Passport is good, taking yoga from the same teacher is beneficial because they get to know you and subconsciously monitor your progress. Yet, with Bikram and Moksha, it's the same stuff over and over again, so there you have a gauge as well.
He told me that there's a few reasons people might do private sessions 1) like me, to learn how to do the poses properly and the session becomes a dialogue between me and him, he demos and I try to copy and learn 2) they have a home practice, and they just do it in front of him and he will adjust where necessary 3) like a regular yoga class he'll just instruct you, but will customize the practice to your needs
I very much recommend anyone practicing yoga regularly in classes to give this a try - you will learn so many things. Even the smaller group classes are pretty much semi private so you'll get a lot of attention.
They just opened more than a month ago, look out for Groupons and the like and give the place a try. Also, this week, he's offering all free classes.Listed in: Om.........Namaste
