To be sure, Gerrard and Parliament is an unlikely location for an indie coffee shop of this calibre but that's what makes Mylk Uncookies such a welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Especially since Jet Fuel really isn't a sit-down spot. You can really make yourself at home at this coffee shop.
It's a gorgeous café. The decor is very minimalist with white and aquamarine walls printed with black and white photography. Even though the floors are vinyl plank, they resemble ash-coloured wood and the furniture is stark white. The cafe is well lit with potlights and hanging pendant lamps. Great music too. Is that the Social Network soundtrack? Yes! (Also: is that Gentleman Reg sitting across from me? Holy shit, it is.)
Their espresso is pretty reasonably priced and it looks like they use beans from Social Coffee and Tea. They don't served brewed coffee but offer french press instead. I used my Indie Coffee Passport for a cup, and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. Really well made brew.
In addition to tea and non-caffeinated drinks, they also have a bunch of vegan and gluten free treats on offer including the eponymous cookies and uncookies.
There are not a lot of outlets available for those toting laptops but they do have free Wi-Fi. Oh, and the service here is ridiculously friendly. The patrons here are truly locals, and you really feel welcome here. Great spot.
Obligatory Title Pun: Come here for some MILK and COOKIES.
Menu Readability: A small chalkboard above the cash.
Need to mention: Cash only.
What this place teaches me about myself: I opened a café it would be the exact opposite of this: warm, kind of grubby and seriously old-fashioned. And lousy service. I'd call it either "Vivek's Cafe" or "L'Enfer Les Autres!"Listed in: Indie Coffee Passport, Cash Only

First stop on my indie passport! After reading the reviews, I expected a little it more.
The cafe is cute for sure - great decor, nice bathroom...though less than comfy chairs.
Pros
- offering vegan and gluten-free treats. I had the hot chocolate cookies, which was delicious. That they have vegan/gluten-free treats is the only reason I am giving them 3 stars. Otherwise, I would only give them 2 (see cons below).
- decor was quite nice
Cons
- soy/almond milk is $.60!!! are you kidding me??? that is inSANE! Who do they think they are??
- homemade almond milk was clearly flavoured with almond extract. It was way too almond-y. I make my own almond milk and the natural flavouring is lovely. I want a coffee, not an artificial almond flavoured beverage.
- latte was super small (especially given it was over $4 after the $.60 of almond milk!)
- espresso was NOT good.
- they don't carry the raw cheesecake year round! i was quite looking forward to it.
Overall, not a huge fan. I'd give in another try when there is raw vegan cheesecake available and will try a regular coffee, but it will not be a place I frequent. I definitely refuse to pay almost a dollar for soy/almond milk!!Listed in: In search of a perfect cafe

I've been wanting to try this new coffeeshop for a while now, as it's in my neighbourhood. I had the perfect excuse when out-of-town friends wanted to meet up. It's bright and welcoming, the barista was very friendly, and the almond latte was absolutely delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they make the almond milk on-site and you can buy jars of it--I may have to go back for that. I'll be a repeat customer for sure; it's great to have another option in the neighborhood for good coffee.

A fairly unassuming little storefront on Gerrard leads into a clean and sleek little cafe - so calming and uncluttered, it's a pleasure to just walk into.
The coffee is not wildly outstanding, but still delicious enough. Although a lot of indie coffee joints in Toronto are starting to offer almond milk as an option in addition to soy, Mylk Uncookies are unique in that they make their own almond milk on premises - and it's freakin' delicious! I've tried it in an iced and a hot latte, and it's really very nice. Unfortunately because they make it, when they run out that's it for the day.
When well-stocked, the snack fridge offers a few vegan snacks (some of them raw, as well). You can also buy jars of the almond milk if you're lucky and get there when they're well-stocked.
If you're going to stick around to enjoy your coffee & snacks, there's a small selection of board games and magazines/papers also. There's washroom facilities, and a water bowl for pups out front. Definitely a solid spot for a drop of coffee and/or a snack if you're in the neighbourhood!Listed in: Caffeine Nation: The Toronto…, 30 Day Yelp Challenge!

This place is a surprising find in this neighborhood.
On my last visit the store was closed due to construction by city on the road so I wanted to make sure they are open on this visit but guess what no one picks the phone here as they have only voice mail service according the barista there. When I got here the place was completely empty so I was thinking oh Deja Vu again but luckily they were open this time.
I was taken aback by the setup complete with a retro look and light color scheme.
Now for the cappuccino its a relatively big serving so kudos for that. No latte art to speak of just frothed milk over an espresso shot. Nice crema that peaked from the sides of the milk. The espresso itself was weak.
2.5 stars for the cappuccino
4 stars for the setup.Listed in: Face off Indie coffee passport…

Continuing with my Indie Coffee Passport crawl...
I'm so glad I found this place, I definitely wouldn't have come across it if it weren't for the passport as it is in a somewhat random location (although good if you are visiting the Allan Gardens or the Phoenix or Winchester Theatre). This place makes me happy! Everything, right down to the mugs and bathroom decor, is done in robin egg/Tiffany's blue and white. So aesthetically pleasing:) The colour scheme even matches the Indie Coffee Passport itself!
The barista was great - she had some good suggestions and let me take my time looking over the long list of teas. They were all out of the vanilla rooibos, so I tried the caramel apple instead. I will have to try their almond milk next time. The tea was great and smelled amazing. It's loose leaf tea and they have this strainer thing that fits inside the mug, so you can let it steep and cover it with a lid. When it's ready, you take out the strainer and put it on the lid.
The homemade vegan treats looked super-yummy but I wasn't that hungry. But I saw lots of other people that seemed to be really enjoying them!
They have a shelf of books, magazines, and a few board games, like Scrabble. Music playing on my visit was Sia.
The place was quite busy when I went, so I gave up my table once it got full. It was a mix of university students studying on their laptops, stroller-toting moms, and even a couple Japanese tourists who were happily snapping photos of this gorgeous space.Listed in: Cafe Culture

I love so many things about Mylk Uncookies, possibly one of my favourite names on the Coffee Passport, they have a very Clockwork Orange milk bar esque interior (well I only say that because it's predominately white and called Mylk). A crowning achievement for me was successfully guessing what their wireless password was (you know you go to a lot of coffee shops when...).
I went with their americano and it was pretty good on it's own (can't really screw up americano right?) I do wish that I was able to try some of their snacks, they had a couple of vegan macaroons that I was interested in but the fact that they take only cash was a serious downer for me.
I really enjoyed their funky lanterns and wall hangings but what fascinated me was their espresso machine which lights up!! I could spot it from across the street and if Apple designed an espresso machine I would assume it would like something like this?
I can't wait to visit here again, but their location is just no where near any thing I do and during my walk there on Gerrard I encountered more homeless people than anyone else. Not the most charming of neighbourhoods but Mylk Uncookies is definitely a much welcome addition to my second Indie Coffee Passport list.Listed in: Caffeine Adventures!, My November 30

This little coffee shop makes its own almond milk! And the staff are some of the friendliest I've experienced.
This is the kind of place to come and talk with a friend. There aren't a lot of outlets, and it just doesn't seem like the kind of place to set up your mobile office. Maybe because it's rather tiny and there's nowhere to hide.
The nabe is quaint and fun for a short wander.
There are two chairs outside, and it's a nice spot if they're available. I've been here three times and never seen much of a crowd - I hope they survive!
Highly recommended! -

Mylk Uncookies is a really feminine and bright coffee shop...... bright and cute and lovely! :)
Barista is cheerful and my cappuccino was A-OK!
Need more electric outlets as there is only 1 table that has electric outlet closed by... Me secretly hoping those people will be leaving soon!
Relax and read a book? Mylk Uncookies does have this laid back vibe.
Free Wifi just ask for the password.....
But where can I plug my Ipod.. the battery is dying.............
60 cents for the homemade almond milk definitely worth a try! -
Review from Tanya N.
I first found out about Mylk and its homemade almond mylk/milk via blogTO so finally made the trek to try it out (it's only 6months old).
Everything about this place is lovely! The white/light gray/turquoise simple decor and large front windows make this place really bright. The barista was really friendly and cheery - everything about this place is welcoming.
I had an iced almond milk latte which came to $4.60 ($3.75+0.60 almond milk+0.25 for making it iced...not too sure why there's an extra charge for ice but whatever, no big deal). The latte was delicious. The espresso from Social is strong (2 shots are the standard for the drinks) and isn't ovewhelmed by the almond milk. I've recently developed a thing for iced almond lattes but only had it with the store brand (either the So Nice or So Good or...probably the Almond Breeze brand - I forget which) but found that it gets too sweet towards the end. However, not with Mylk's almond milk which from my perspective a labour of love to make: the almonds have to be soaked for about 9 to 12 hours, blended, strained, blended again with dates (to sweeten it), strained, etc.
There's plenty of seats, two hot pink Muskoka chairs out in the front (how fun!) and free wifi.
One thing I have to point out is the washroom. It's located on the main level unlike many Toronto establishments and super, super clean. If you're not a complete germaphobe - it's sit down worthy. Really. Just sayin'.Listed in: For the Love of Lattes

I found the space bright and clean, but a little stark. Large, black and white photos adorn the walls, and the very accommodating and friendly barista (owner) told me that the subjects were all family.
Mylk is a great addition to the neighbourhood, has well presented and prepared products, but doesn't have the welcoming homey vibe that I look for. Of course, this is very subjective, and many will (and do) like this space.Listed in: Coffee

Review from Angela L.
It's rare to find good raw vegan pastries in this part of town. Luckily, Mylk Uncookies' offers a variety of them and I can vouch that the bite sized cashew cookies are delicious. Owners Toni and Elaine's fresh daily in-house made organic almond milk sells out so quickly that the 48 hour shelf-life doesn't really mean much. If a batch is made that morning, you'd be lucky to get some by midday. In fact, I have even yet to try any of this rumoured deliciousness myself. The espresso is made from the couple's pride and joy centerpiece machine and the well-curated selection of specialty tea blends is fun to sniff and pick from too.
The blown up vintage photos on the walls of Toni's parents back in Italy add some nostalgia and old school charm to an otherwise cool and sparse decor scheme. Fine details such as how the rubber heat resistant ring around the matching mugs make holding on to your piping hot beverage a lot easier. Their assortment of design magazines and books about Canadian living are fun to flip through too. -

I swung by this beautiful space , featured on my Indie Coffee Passport, and was taken by the eye-catching turquoise signage and the spacious , calm interior. I was also psyched that they offer homemade almond milk to add to their espresso drinks. Homemade! As someone who has had lots of subpar, dairy-free lattes in her day, I am happy to report that Mylk Uncookies delivers the goods on taste, visuals and atmosphere. While I sat and enjoyed my beverage and an awesome peanut butter bar, I noticed that the staff of one, was extremely polite and courteous to everyone that came in. He greeted regulars by name and was unphased even when there was a line-up. Great service!

I totally agree with the reviews - this place is worth a special trip, no matter where you live or whether you are a vegan or not.
Beautiful decor, heartfelt and charming service, and DELICIOUS drinks and treats. The housemade almond milk is going to be famous, mark my words, and the raw treats are very very good. I had the uncheese cake and the texture of the cashew "cheese" was as close to a real cheesecake as I've had yet. It was so good I went back up to the counter and grabbed one of every other raw treat they offered. Happy to say all of them were excellent and I am already looking forward to visiting again. Not a part of town that I go to often but Mylk Uncookies is worth a special trip :) -

Have only been here twice, but I'm incredibly happy that I'm moving just down the street from Mylk Uncookies in a few weeks.
All the drinks my girlfriend and I have had were exceptional, the raw vegan treats were delicious, the service is kind and genuine (hard to find in this city) and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Once I'm in the neighborhood, I predict I'll visiting multiple times per week! -

I cannot wait to become a regular at this lovely & tranquil cafe just off the strip of vibrant cabbagetown. It is a quaint space that has been designed to show off the how simple can truly be beautiful! Everything has it's place and the shop is full of whimsy.
The service was impeccible. I had an almond milk latte, as did my coffee date. it was divine. while waiting for my latte, I looked over the treats and noticed I would be able to have quite a few of them as many were vegan and gluten free. The in house almond milk was sweet and the espresso had a lovely smooth finish. When I return, I hope to try another inspired hot beverage with almond milk. This little shop is a haven for those of us with unique dietary needs. It is truly a treasure to find a cafe that specializes in alternative milk selections. I thought I could only get that at home!
Laptop users, beware: there is only one plug in the cafe that is smartly nestled between by two tables - so, charge up before you get there if you wish to work away in this little gem.
You can purchase the almond milk/mylk for $2 but they need min. 24hr notice to ensure they add a bit extra to the batch. Apparently, a simple email gets you in! -

Mylk is a fantastic addition to the Cabbagetown cafe culture - not as pretentious as Jet Fuel and not as common as Starbucks.
They've only been open a little over a month and already the girls who own the place feel like family. Their welcoming personalities, personal touches, DELICIOUS sweets, WiFi, board games and books round out the experience at this fantastic cafe.
Try the sea salt caramel square or the mocha (made with drinking chocolate!) if you really want a treat. -

Oh, man, the neighborhood needs this place. It's soothing and restful, with lovely cups of tea (in mugs that match the walls!) and delicious vegan sweets. Plus the staff are amazingly friendly--they'll bring water to your table and chat with you about all the various sweeteners on offer.

I heart this charming little coffee shop! The ladies who run it are fantastic, warm and welcoming. It's in a charming little spot with big, bright windows. They make all kinds of delicious vegan treats (and I'm not a vegan but I really like their treats!) I'm also lactose intolerant and they have homemade almond milk which is sooooo yummy. It's a great place to spend an afternoon.
