Review from Johnny H.

I don't watch Much Music anymore since mankind was given Youtube in 2005. But this place holds fond memories and past fascinations with TV. It was every teenager's dream to be on the show (don't remember what it's called...) at 5:00 PM. I also remember Much Music doing some sort of club night on Friday evenings. All kinds of douches and sl*ts showed up to show their dance moves on TV. I always wanted to be on that program. LOL. It also was a place of numerous celeb sightings - Avril Lavigne, Beyonce, U2, Sum 41, Nelly Furtado, etc.
Even though I don't watch this channel, it still has a purpose - MMVA! I remember not being able to go during high school because of exams! Now that I am in university, I went every year. Good memories. Always good parties. Always a bunch of unethical brats. lol.
Wow... Am I really that old? Watching Much Music after school seems like a distant memory and forgotten habit. Ed the sock, video requests, hot VJs, etc. Loved Ed the sock's annual video list.
The Wedge has a special place in my heart since I considered it the only program playing noteworthy music. I don't know how many songs I first heard on that program. -
Review from Janna S.
Probably more notable as a magnet for screaming Juston Bieber fanatics than a mecca of Canadian Culture, MuchMusic appears to promise far more than it ever truly delivers. Overall the programming seems to have been watered-down over the years - there really isn't much to make this place unique anymore.
I like the building and the memories of what used to be. That makes me either old or just bored; maybe both. -

If this were 1996, I'd totally give Much Music 5-stars.
When did they so badly want to become a mirror of MTV with nothing but crummy reality television? What does Tila Tequila or Paris Hilton My New BFF have to do with music? Why do they seem so proud of their brain rotting make-over?
Music video rotation is getting less by the day on Much, with is a little heartbreaking to me, seeing as I make music videos for a living. I remember when they'd have video-flow for hours during the day, as well as late at night, with programming such as The Wedge, and their once a month Electronica hour - where they'd play unseen videos by Cassius 1999 and Underworld. They do still have the weekly Countdown, thankfully. It just sucks that air-time for so many amazing videos is now weighed so heavily on the internet/youtube, rather than a television station that was invented for this medium.
There are some qualities that still shine through - like the MMVAs, and Much News. However, retarded programing for shows like Punch Much (which is like the CP24 for teenagers with ADD) dulls that shimmer.
It's a sad time for the music industry, and an even sadder time for music videos. It's a shame that the once amazing Much Music has decided to leave their unique programing, and become followers of what's 'cool' in tv trends right now. I don't think Paris Hilton will ever find a new BFF though, so I hope Much are stoked that there will surely be 3 more seasons of that garbage.
How pathetic. -

Dammit Valerie! Stole my FTR! And you're from San Jose, California! WTF?!
Anyway, there were moments when I was still on California time (3 hours behind). So i'm still up... can't sleep... everyone's sleeping. So what's Walter P to do? Watch TV.
After flipping channels, I was glued to the smile, eyes, and soft gentle voice of Sarah Taylor of Much Music. http://www.muchmusic.c...
It didn't matter what see was doing, who see was interviewing, what she was saying.... I was in love. Secretly in love. There were times when I snuck out of bed just to turn on the tv and catch her hour spot on Much Music. I even ventured to the studio in downtown Toronto to profess my love for this Canadian hottie.
But soon enough the fantasy became reality when I was told that she was engaged and soon to be married.

Growing up in a small, Northern Ontario town there were very few venues to rely on for the latest music info, videos and news. I think the only concert our city ever saw before I left was a Duran Duran cover band. (and it wasn't so bad).
So, our outlet was Much Music, and as a kid, there was nothing better than to watch RSVP, the NewMusic, and to check out the quips from the VJ's.
When I moved to Toronto, I remember thinking how awesome it would be to check out Much Music in person-hoping to end up as a completely oblivious (of course) passerby answering Bill Welychka's music Qs. But, I found, to my disappointment that it had changed.
Maybe it was a consequence of age, or bad music, but the channel didn't seem to have the same focus as it once did. And lately, Much Music has been playing more reality based television shows, than music videos.
It's obvious where the ratings are, and based on the horrible videos and VJ's they have now, I suppose it's not a bad move on their part. However, I've seen a downward spiral in the watchability of this channel for years, and it seems to be only a matter of time before it succumbs to it's American counterpart. -

When did I suddenly grow up and not understand the meaning of the word "music"? This channel has become a collection of reality shows and general stupidity, a place where melodrama and squealing trumps actual musical knowledge.
What happened to the streams of music videos, VJs who ask intelligent questions, music programs like The Wedge, and good in-studio performances that don't involve 14-year-olds screaming over the vocals? I don't need any more reality shows, and I am tired of those wacky gum commercials. Stop! Now!
When did Much jump the shark? There were indications in the mid-90s, but I think it all turned to stool when that Brandon what's-his-face guy won that temp contest and then became all hot and cocky and fled to the States to become a Canadian embarrassment.
However, I suppose the station is reflecting the state of our society today, and I should just accept that I've become old and stodgy. Or is it society that's become what MuchMusic has dictated? If so, please, please help us.

I remember watching the Television when I was in Canada about 3 years ago and saw MuchMusic, then actually passed by and thought wow, I would like to sit in on that audience.
I know that I am not part of the target audience of this anymore either but I did get to pass right by the studio. One of the "fans" just standing outside the main studio like a jackass while the show was going live that day...
- Here in the states and NY particularly, Fuse Telelvision now was called MuchMusic at some point in the past.
Who knows maybe next time I am in Canada I can check that window again. -

I actually shudder when I think about Muchmusic. When I look back on what it used to be, I'm proud. And then I think about the youth of today and their representative, Muchmusic, and I want to cry.
Muchmusic as a television is pure crap. Their VJs are now mostly former models who got their on-camera experience AFTER they were hired (I'm looking at you, Leah Miller), or people who won contests (TIM DEEGAN. Could you be any more boring?!). The only TV shows they pick up have already been on another station for at least a year, or are something totally inane like that Dance Crew bullshit.
Their news programs are glorified gossip shows, the New Music sucks now, and that Video On Trial show encourages me to try different methods of suicide. If you get my point.
If you're 14, and you love the Jonas Brothers, then you'll love this station. They have pop acts perform every once in a while, or the Olsen Twins will visit and the whole street will be clogged up with Ugg boots and denim miniskirts.
If you have any true taste in music, or if you are moving into the area, avoid this place like the plague. Keep tabs on who's visiting though, or else your streetcar ride to work will be halted by barricades on John Street to contain all the rabid teenagers. -

I'm not longer part of the target audience of MuchMusic, this is a fact I've long known. However that doesn't mean I don't still get nostalgic when I walk by and see the teenagers clambering against the glass to see some new version of NKOTB or N'Sync or the Jonas Brothers or...man, there are so many still to come...
But I can also appreciate on a hot day, when the open the doors and their a concert inside, the sounds of music drawing a crowd.
So I gave it four stars mainly because a) I don't want to be jaded to something just because I'm not too old to appreciate it and b) it seems sort of un-Canadian of me to hate on it. -

The equivalence of MTV in the US...
But!
I like how MuchMusic plays more music videos. -
Review from Evelyn K.
I remembered this channel when i was visiting Canada and channel surfed and found a channel that played music videos.
I agree with Valerie that this channel plays more videos than MTV, this was pre MTV2 and all the reality shows.
It didn't hurt that they played a lot of the boy band music at the time since it was the late 90's, which means extra stars from me :) -

You can usually crowd around and spot celebrities there. You can also record yourself at "Speaker's Corner". This is a prime source of influence for the behavior of young Canadians today. Without this, negative hip hop is questionable.
