Apparently this is a very popular trail for snowshoeing!  This trail gets packed!  I would give it a 5 if it wasn't so busy, but I like my trekking a bit less crowded.  It also gets pretty packed down, so snowshoes aren't really necessary.

Dogs are allowed on the trail with a leash, but not everyone is so kind to have picked up after their dogs.  Just because it is called Dog Mountain doesn't mean it needs to be littered with feces.  Some people also haven't figured out trail etiquette.  Move out of the way for people coming, especially is someone is coming at you downhill.  Move out of the way for faster hikers.  It is common courtesy, and some people just don't get it.  And for goodness sakes, please don't stop mid trail.  Sorry, I end my rant here.

Despite the crowding, it's a great trail that is free, with a fabulous view at the end.  Just get there early!

Do it for the gorgeous view at the end. It's worth it!!

This is about a 2.5 hour hike, branching off the Seymour main trail to the Dog Mountain Trail. On the way, you will pass by First Lake, a small lake that's an indicator of the beginning of the Dog Mountain trail.

There's lots of tree roots and large boulders on the way, so there is some climbing involved. It wasn't too busy when we went, and there were a lot of families doing it.

At the top, the view is stunning. There's smooth rocks up there for you to relax and perhaps enjoy some lunch/ snacks.

I agree with Kat S that this was a very buggy trail. We were constantly followed by bugs, and the buzzing drove us crazy.

Bring bug spray and sunscreen, and you should be all set for a spectacular view at the top!

Mt Seymour, not just for Winter sports.

We took our Dutch visitor up the mountain.
(in my case I would have to admit he led the way). Loving every tangled root and obstructing bolder on the path, through streams and slippery mud...

We passed 10 feet under the familiar tree markings from our snow shoeing times. Yes! they get up to ten feet of snow up here in Winter and with a hard pack, I actually found it easier to traverse on the snow.

NOTE: This is considered an easy hike.
haha. Okay, there was a pregnant woman, a small child and one or two seniors there to keep me in line, but I found it challenging.

The payoff is good. And if you go up to Dinky Peak you get two payoffs!
Nice view..... but they forgot to put in the escalator.
    ;-)
