Hole in the wall.....
The best takeout FnCs joint in town!
Note: parking is limited as it's shared with another diner and 7-11; so parking is very limited. Best to park along 70th, just east of Granville.

Great old fashioned fish and chips! Crisp batter, flaky fish and a generous serving of chips. Since moving to Vancouver from Australia I've been dying for decent F&c and I found it here.
This isn't the place to go if you're looking for healthy, grilled fish with a salad on the side. Come here if you want the good stuff!
The people who run this store were incredibly friendly and checked up on us a couple of times to see if we were satisfied.
As others have mentioned the location isn't spectacular (you're pretty much eating in the parking lot), but when I'm enjoying what I'm eating then all I care about is the food in front of me.

Full legit old school fish n chips served up on newsprint. Traditional pricing on Fridays at $6.95 for a 2 piece order.
The folks who own / run / work here are very friendly and comical.
This is a tiny shop with only 2 tables inside that are not really meant to sit at, but you can if its not busy. And its always busy (a good thing).
There is a small table and a microscopic "patio" out front as well.
Overall great food with good prices and friendly honest service. Highly recommended. -

Friendly guys making some great fish and chips. Tender fish, crispy batter and big fat chips. Only thing I can say against it was that the batter on my deep fried mars bar tasted a bit like fish. A little off-putting, but maybe this is the way it's supposed to be? I keep trying deep fried mars bars as it just SHOULD be amazing and I've just never had a great one. Mars bars should not taste like fish. But everything else, really good, and their Friday night special is great value.

Mr. Pickwick's is the second best fish and chips I've had in Vancouver (the best is Joe Blow's waaaaay out in Maple Ridge). There are three kinds of fish available, and I ordered the haddock, which is the most expensive. It was cooked perfectly, with a reasonably light and not at all greasy batter. The chips were really good, too. The food deserves a 4.5 star rating, but I'm giving Mr. Pickwick's 3 stars for ambience, which works out to 4 stars overall.

My spouse and I pass by this place all the time and have only ended up eating here once. I have only eaten at three fish and chips places since I have been in Vancouver and this one is on the bottom of the list for me (best fish and chips experience was at Steveston Village in Richmond).
It is way too greasy and pricey for me. I like fish but even eating it outside on their tiny patio (on a dirty table I might add), didn't make it more palatable. The fries were dry and tasteless. At least the guy inside was friendly and actually laughed when I asked if they had catfish (I'm a southerner).
If we get in the mood for fish and chips we won't be going to this place for it.Comment from Kevin H. of Mr Pickwick's Fish & Chips 5/17/2012

Review from Emily H.
On the last day of my holiday visit to Vancouver, my lunch date stood me up from partying too hard the night before [insert cries]. So I went to Mr. Pickwick's for one of the tastiest fish & chips lunches I've ever had.
I was surprised by the tiny storefront, but even more surprised by the food. The cod & chips were deep fried right before my eyes. I was happy to see that it was wrapped in sheets of paper and then placed directly in the take-out bag; none of this stupid styrofoam box business! I couldn't get home soon enough to eat this bad boy! Of course the bus decides to be slow which unfortunately made them a little soggy. Seeing and feeling the steam flow from my little bag just added exponentially to my impatience.
It was nonetheless very delicious. The flavour was so good. And if it could still be so enjoyable after nearly 20minutes of commute, it must be so orgasmically good right out of the deep fryer. I wouldn't recommend the coleslaw so much, but their tartar sauce is great.

Straight from the horse's mouth-- "This is the best yet!".
Friendly, fast, affordable, and good...
One of my partner's criteria for good fish and chips is that you should be able to eat it with your hands. The fish here are cut long and semi-skinny and the thin batter clings to the fish so you don't have to spend the whole time wrestling with the knife/fork or have to make the difficult decision of whether or not it's healthy to eat the chunk of batter that's fallen off the fish.
I had been glowing to him about the quality of the fish at this place and warning him about the lack of ambience. Twenty minutes into the meal, he had devoured 3 pieces of cod and a pile of french fries.
That's when he spoke those famous first words I opened with. -

Of course we waited until the last day for our Groupon coupon to head down to Mr. Pickwicks again, after our mid summer aborted attempt, and It's really at the other end of town for us.
My whole reason for going all the way down there for fish and chips is because they offer a gluten free batter. They do not have a dedicated fryer for that, but I decided to give it a shot.
I would recommend that you go only in weather that allows you to eat outside, as the interior is not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. There are exactly 6 stools, also there is no cute tent outside like the one you see in that Yelp photo, so do not be misled. That tent is long gone and it's just a couple of chairs and tables on a parking lot. What they should do is enclose it and add an outdoor heat lamp.
In my opinion it's a very bad idea to take this food out (in a plastic bag) and drive to another location. The fish and chips loose their appeal when they are soggy and this isn't exactly cheap eats.
I think the take-out orders should be placed into another type of bag, the paper handled type shopping bag.
It's best if you eat it there and enjoy it for what it is!
I hope to return some day for a better/ batter experience ;-}
It's not everyday that I get to have fish & chips.Listed in: Gluten Free/ Dairy free eats.

They have gluten-free batter! I can eat this stuff! Amazing!
My boyfriend picked us up some fish for dinner, as we were heading to a pub quiz and running out of time. It took a while for us to meet up, so the fish wasn't at its best, but we scarfed it down and I was still pretty impressed.
The fries were great too. The guy at Pickwicks tossed in about 10 packages of vinegar (white and malt) for me, which was wonderful.
I'll have to try it sometime when it hasn't been sitting in the bag for 20 minutes.Listed in: Great eats, gluten-free

I went to London recently and had fish and chips at one of the most famous (and supposedly best) Fish and Chips places there. Was it great? Yes. It was delicious. Was it better than Mr Pickwick's? No.
I like sticking with the cod but the halibut is ok too.
If you have a group of friends (3-4) people you can get the family deal at this location. 10 pieces of fish plus a huge load of fries. We had three big guys and finished 6 or 7 pieces.
Do not get them to go. Fish and chips are meant to be eaten right away. -

I wouldn't have thought of coming here, but the recent Groupon offering gave me the opportunity to try it out.
When I think of fish and chips, I think of hanging out at the pier or by the beach front. This outlet of Mr. Pickwick's doesn't reside in any of those I envision. Instead, the "patio" seating is a view of the parking lot. Not exactly a place I'd head out to under normal circumstances (unless you live or work nearby).
However, past all that obstacle and you have some decent food. I like the batter and the quality of the seafood - cod, halibut and oysters. We're in Vancouver so you can't go wrong with obtaining these fresh ingredients. Couple that with friendly service and it does earn four stars.
With very limited seating, it's easy to think of taking it out. But why wait to get home when you can enjoy some freshly cooked fish and chips and hang out by the patio. Now if only that large van move out of the way so I have a better view of Granville...street... -

"Hey Mom, wanna get Pickwick's???"
These words bring me great joy. Nothing I enjoy more than a meal of fish&chips with my favorite daughter. We're on a lifelong quest to discover the best f&c and have been fans of this place for a while.
Seating is limited but it is primarily a take out location.
Cod IS fish in my world, but understandably here in BC the halibut is tastier and generally costs more. Such is also the case here but surprisingly, the cod is so tastey and fresh that it is a delicious lower cost option.
We consider this a definite contender for Vancouver's best fish&chipsListed in: Fish&Chips List

Every time I walk by Pickwick's, on either side of Granville, I suddenly have the craving to grab some greasy, fried fish and some vinegar and dig in. Any fish and chips that can reel me in from across the street is worth checking out. This hole in the wall will provide any fish and chips fan exactly what he or she needs.
I like that the chips are all uneven shapes and still have the skins on them. It's a nice touch. Nearly any kind of fish you want, and some other british specialities round out the menu.Listed in: Marpole

My boyfriend and I have driven by Mr. Pickwick's Fish & Chips many times from Richmond to Vancouver, in the Marpole area on Granville. Last Friday we finally decided to stop by for dinner. Even though we ordered at 8:40 and they closed at 9pm, they allowed us to stay past closing time to finish so that we could have a good experience and didn't have to take out the food.
I ordered a 2-piece cod (Friday special) and asked for yam fries instead of regular fries and both were SO good... the yam fries came with an especially yummy honey dijon dip that reminded me of the sauce you can get at Fritz's poutine house.
My boyfriend decided to sample everything from the halibut to coleslaw and popcorn shrimp. Needless to say he wasn't able to finish it all. -

I've been working in the area for the past few months and always walked past it without a second glance. Well on this particular day I was craving a deep-fried treat so I opted for a some classic fish and chips. Mr Pickwick's is definitely on my list of favourite fast eats.
Great selection of fish and excellent if you want to grab some take out as seating is limited. Great service..the lady working was probably one of the friendliest around AND I got an extra piece of fish because the weight was off on the first two (they ALWAYS make sure the pieces meet certain weight requirements!)

We were craving Fish and Chips and decided to try this based on Yelp ratings and I have to say we were very impressed! The place doesn't have much by way of ambiance, there's barely any room to eat it, or anything. But they know what they're doing!
We tried the cod, halibut and shrimp, as well as the deep fried Mars bars (if you haven't tried them....do it!!). Everything was great, I prefer a lighter fish, so the halibut was spot on.
Would totally recommend the place and will definitely return! Although I might not suggest deep fry as an everyday thing! -

If you told me this was one of the best Fish N' Chips places in Vancouver I'd laugh in your face. I mean, the name? the mascot? sweet lord.
But, you could promptly laugh in my face as soon as I ate them because, damn. I mean, they aren't anything too special or original. There are plenty of places with 'their take' on fish and chips that blow Mr.Pickwick out of the water. Mr.Pickwick though makes the greasy, traditional fish and chips to near perfection.
If you head to white rock or further coastal places you're going to get some better fare, but within the limits of Vancouver you're hard pressed to find something quite as good. Perfect amount of batter, grease and heat and i've never had a gross overdone piece. Pretty wonderful.
It's not some place you definitely need to seek out but, if you have a craving, this will surely satisfy. -

Mr. Pickwick's is a traditional take-out fish 'n chipper. Nothing fancy or original, but exactly what I want to get when I walk into that sort of place, and I've yet to find a traditional take-out fish 'n chipper in Vancouver proper (though there are some really great ones in coastal areas like Steveston or White Rock).
Pretty much everything on the menu is deep fried. You can get several different types of fish, but I always get cod, which has been great every time I've ordered it. The chips are real cut potatoes with the skins on and malt vinegar is available for the authentic English taste. And if your deep fried main course isn't enough to fill you, you can get deep fried Mars bars and pineapple slices for dessert. The Mars bars are a tasty and decadent treat, though my BF found them too rich.
With Mr. Pickwick's menu being what it is, you probably shouldn't eat there too often unless you're trying to be a contestant on The Biggest Loser, but if you're craving a deep fried treat, it's the place to be in Marpole. -
Review from Matthew C.
Pretty good fish and chips. Was visiting vancouver and wanted to try any seafood I could think of. Had the salmon fish and chips and the fried mars bar. They have their own dipping sauce that goes very well with the fish. Would have been much better for me if I didn't see cooks butt crack. Totally ruined the meal for me. Place could use some remodeling too.

Are you a fish and chips fanatic??... come on.. fess up... I know you are. Well this guy does the best fish and chips around in my opinion. My partner and I have a somewhat consistent tradition of going to Mr Pickwick's on new years eve to have some fish and chips and a nice pint of beer to begin the new years festivities. The fish is light and crispy, and never overdone...... now for the real reason why I have sucked you into my web of fish and chips ....... DEEP FRIED MARS BARS people! yes you read that correctly they actually serve deep fried mars bars. You had might as well slap it on my ass it's so loaded with crap.. but man alive it's damn good!

I've lived in the area for over ten years, and yet I've never visited this place. WHY? The food is delish! Hot and homey and far too much to finish in one sitting. And it's wrapped in paper! Now that I have discovered it I will definitely be back.
Also, the people there are super friendly. Walked out with a smile even though I was a freezing, stressed out university student. Customer service that can do that is customer service indeed. -

I suddenly had an immense craving for fish and chips, and a friend of mine raved at how great the food was here. The place is extremely small, and parking is almost certainly limited. The food is on the oily side; actually, relatively speaking I wasn't surprised since it is fried food. Great value for money since it cost me around 10 and there were two huge portions of halibut and some house fries. The lady working there was incredibly nice, and I would definitely return here if not for the parking.

Great tasting fish & chips, friendly and funny staff. Seems like they really care about the community as well, which seems to be rare in this part of town.
Only gets four stars because of how much regret I get after I wolf down a two-piece order and realize what I've done to my arteries -

4.25 stars, delicious!
the halibut is a bit dry for my taste, the salmon doesn't satisfy but the cod is really delicious. It is moist and flaky with a wonderful perfect batter.
The cooking process is very quick, what takes a bit of time is the ordering process if there is a line in front of you. Have some paticence and it'll be worth it. -
