Review from Arün D.

After eating here the other night with some friends, I'd really like to have a word with Moxie and ask her why the goat cheese burger I had was so oily. It tasted alright but finding a puddle of oil on my plate was kind of gross. Other members of my party (I feel like I'm playing a RPG or something when I say that) also complained about their dishes being oily. The fries that came with the burger were on the stale side as well. I'd also like to add that the chairs were very uncomfortable and the fireplace was too warm. That's just me though.
The vegetarian options were also kind of lacking...The goat cheese burger was (I think) their only "normally" vegetarian dish, but other things could be made vegetarian simply by asking for the meat to be removed. Other restaurants I've been to give you simulated meat or drop price a bit to compensate but it doesn't seem like they do that here.
The place itself was pretty nice and the service was fine, as you'd expect from these sorts of joints. Price-wise the place was also typical. Sadly the food didn't live up to my expectations. -

This restaurant is apparently too classic for creativity. Out of their entire menu, which proudly underlined entrees of grilled chicken, crab cakes, and some oriental rice, they only had ONE VEGETARIAN ENTREE -- The Veggie Burger. I was tempted to talk to the chef directly to question the immense lack of creativity within the restaurant.
So I decided to get the Herb Chicken Alfredo without the Chicken (they still made me pay the full price). It was pretty classic, nothing much else to say about it. -

My boyfriend and i had a gift certificate to Moxie's and we chose this one because Nicole F's review of the place made me laugh and enticed me with long islands made of pure liquor. Aside from reviews by guys who gave the place 4 or 5 stars with the simple comment 'our waitress had nice boobies' the place seemed to garner mostly negative reviews, so we were pretty cautious but ended up having a pretty tasty meal! The service pretty much met up to our lowered expectations though.
Our drinks were good. Nothing fantastic, but nothing to complain about. I had a long island and liked it since it didn't taste too much like cola, and my boyfriend got a huge ass Corona for only seven bucks since it was on special. Our food was pretty awesome though! I had artic char with insanely yummy garlic mashed potatoes, and the bf had a steak and prawns that completely conquered him. My only complaint was that my dish was described as coming with shelled edamame, but there were like, maybe ten edamame beans on my plate artfully strewn about the fish. I'd say they were more a garnish than an accompaniment to the meal, which kinda disappointed me, but whatever, it was still a great meal!
The service was good, but the staff here just don't do it for me. The waitress was nice, but in the weird, falsely perky way that you know is all an act and is slowly killing her inside if she's actually a cool person. I sorta hate how we came in and everyone was all friendly and nice, but then they just happily seated us off in the farthest, dark corner of the bar. I know places like this will do that if you don't look like a Robson shopper, but it kinda sucked since we wanted to go on a nice date and we didn't even the option of sitting in the restaurant. We had to listen to the too loud dinner house and be distracted by golf on the tv when what we really wanted was a nice quiet dinner out. We figured the restaurant side must have been busy but when I went to go to the washroom it wasn't at all. I don't know, it wasn't a huge deal, but the more we discussed it the more we felt like they underhandedly insulted us somehow.
We definitely weren't wowed enough to make a point of coming back here anyway. Mmmmmeh! -
Review from Lisa C.
I've come here twice for brunch and each time I've found the service to be quite attentive and friendly and the food is quite tasty!
This past weekend I had the brunch burger...which absolutely made my tummy happy, since I was quite hungover. But the burger was a wee bit salty....but what can you expect from egg, bacon and ground beef patty! lol.
I've also had a wrap once before for brunch, and man was that tasty. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
Although the service is great, I do agree that the girls dress a little provocatively and it does make things a little uncomfortable....only in the mornings though. If this was an afternoon/evening time I probably wouldn't think much of it. But first thing in the morning it' makes things kind of awkward (in my opinion anyways.) -

Don't underestimate Moxie's because it's a casual Canadian chain, it's actually VERY good, both food and service. Great location on Robson and a very decent place to eat (junk food on Robson is countless) at reasonable prices. Nice ambience as well, they have huge comfy chairs, and it's never too busy. I've had the burger, flatbread, salad and soup. They were made in a very good way, good ingredients, very good presentation too. APPROVED!

When one has a DayPass, one must use it to its fullest potential! The night's short so I cruise up Robson on the bus... and stop... at Ebisu... but they're closed.... so I walk across... the street... to here... wandering to the bar, I grab a seat. WO_OW, check out the bartendress! *whistles, even thought I can't, yet*
I get some drink -see pic- and hang for a bit. -

Went for breakfast with my partner in crime slash roommate because we were too lazy to walk to our usual breakfast haunt....first mistake!
We were up reasonable early (10:00AM) for a Saturday and rolled in to a nearly empty restaurant.
Our waitress was very adorable and nice but really new and had a difficult time understanding what I wanted.
First we ordered Caesars but guess what? No alcohol until 11AM....so we made plans to visit the Liquor Store after (which, by the way, is open at 9).
After perusing the menu I decided on a Mediterranean scramble which was described as having asparagus, feta and tomatoes. Sounded perfect! I am one of those rare people who is not a fan of onions (I can handle a few but so many places use them to add bulk to a meal. I call them the "filler vegetable") so I asked if there were onions in it. Our server wasn't sure but said they could add them if I wanted. I responded "No, actually I don't like them and I was hoping not to ask not to have any, if they are in it."
My friend ordered a pancetta and brie benny. Partway through waiting for our food, when our server walked by, I asked if she had found out about the onions and she said 'Oh, I had them add extra for you." I explained that I DIDN'T like them and she said she would go back and tell them to remake it without onions. When she returned, she said they add their bruschetta mix to it (why is this referred to as 'tomatoes' on the menu when it is clearly a mix of tomoatoes and onions?!) so it would have a few which I conceded would be fine.
She returned suspiciously soon with our meals (by which I mean, there is no way they remade it without the additional onions) and it was chock full....
At this point, I just wanted to get to that liquor store and go home to a delicious Caesar so I ate only the asparagus i picked out of the eggs and planned to eat the shredded hash browns (but guess what? They had onions added to them!!) and just called it a day.
My friend said her Benny was 'okay' but it was served on slices of baguette instead of English Muffin which seems like a cost saving measure to me. The Brie was quite minimal and the hollandaise looked very 'made from a mix'.
Let this be a lesson to me about being to lazy to go to my regular place on Denman. I will never be lazy again!
SIDE RANT to all 'upscale casual restaurants' - I am a female who pays for my own meals and genetally tips over 20% but I HATE having to stare at my server's exposed cleavage, legs etc when I am eating. A bare leg touching the table I am eating on is gross to me. I get that you have tiny uniforms for your servers to encourage men to go to your restaurant but guess what? I have money too!Listed in: Rise n' Shine

The food was terrible from start to finnish. We had chicken tenders to starts, and we thought they came with dipping sauce, but in reality, it was already coated in the sauce (beware). We ordered the buffalo sauce ones, and the sauce was not very tasty, and there was no way of getting rid of it - dipping would have been better.
I ordered the tandoori salmon salad - it was an odd combo. Naan with Brie (tasty), tandoori salmon, but then mango and like these chinese crackers....just kinda strange. Also way too much dressing, could not eat the really soaked part.
My boyfriend had the philly cheesesteak and had to send it back because it was cold. They brought it back and it was now luke-warm. He has tried a lot of philly's and this one was far below par.
To top it off, service was pretty slow - mind you we were a large group, so thats neither here nor there. -
Review from Herman E.
Don't order the tandoori salmon salad if you like traditional South Asian food. It tasted weird, and it sat on a bed of crispy vermicelli Asian noodles. Naan bread with brie tasted like soggy bread with brie. The naan wasn't even "naan". It tasted like something from one of the local bakeries that bake for a bunch of restaurant chains. I've eaten enough naan to know what it is, and what they served wasn't naan. Western, Chinese, South Asian and French all combined on one plate. Trying to do too many cuisines at once. It just didn't do it for me.
Bruschetta, yam fries, tuna tartar was ok.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This is only a review for the bar. We had a large group and were welcomed nicely with plenty of space in the bar area. The bartender did well considering she was alone with our large group and other patrons. The drinks were a bit weak, and definitely overpriced. The clean and quiet ambiance was nice, and all the staff were very pleasant.

Well, apparently the Long Islands here are pure liquor. Or at least that's what they taste like.
I got their classic Long Island because they are on special on Saturdays, and of course I had to Moxie-size it like the rest of my drunken pals at the table.
I tried the Raspberry Long Island as well and it was SOOOO tasty! Get the raspberry if you are reading this and ever plan on going to Moxie's.
I love the washrooms here! It's like pissing in a closet. The full length doors are great. The staff were friendly but the service was kinda slow near the end.
One of my pals ordered an Appletini for the birthday girl and there was an awkward moment where the bartender actually came over to our table to shake it right there. Is that normal? And then he awkwardly walked away. It didn't bother us, it was just odd. And he left the shaker there. (by accident?!)
Um, yeah. I didn't actually order any food so I can't comment on that, but I did steal a bite of the white chocolate brownie, which was alright. Seemed a little dry. Everyone else at the table thought it was amazing but maybe I just don't "get it". -
Review from Beata B.
This is the place to go if you want to see waitresses wearing high heels. I cannot lie. They're all every attractive. But must they be in charge of making drinks too?! Dear lord... My friend ordered a dirty martini, and what she got was a shot of gin. I ordered a margarita (moxie-sized!) that tasted suspiciously like it didn't have any tequila in it. And yeah, I guess we had some food.
The location is nice. The chairs are comfortable. The hostesses and the waitresses (I really do think they're all female) are all extremely good looking, but when it comes to drinks and food...? I'll pass. -

my bf and I walked in and were seated promptly, even though it was a fairly busy thursday night.
then we waited.
3 servers walked by, one of them twice, none of them making eye contact or stopping to take a drink order, or to drop off water, or to tell us our server would be right with us.
so after 10 minutes of sitting there with no acknowledgement, we decided to leave.
the same hostess was at the front and she cheerfully asked "how was us everything?" (10 minutes after sending us to a table), at which point I retorted "well we sat there for 10 minutes with no service, so we're leaving". she attempted to apologize but we were already out the door.
worst. experience. ever. at least on robson st. we went across the street to Earl's and had a fabulous meal, with excellent staff. -

The service was friendly enough, but a few glitches made it a little odd -- we had a party of six under the name John and were told the wait would be 15 min. After about 20 minutes (and noticing people being taken to tables who arrived well after us), a manager came out to explain that they had accidentally given our table away to ANOTHER party named John (which only had four people, so not sure how they managed to screw that up).
And a couple of times, they brought a different party's food to our table. And they forgot to bring cutlery to a couple of places. No biggie -- that happens a lot at busy restaurants, and this was immediately following the Pride Parade, so you can expect them to be swamped.
What I did NOT expect, though, was the totally disgusting lobster and brie grilled cheese sandwich. It tasted like a truckload of salt had been dumped into it, you couldn't taste any lobster (except for a peculiar generic fishy taste -- and not fishy in a good way) or the brie. It tasted like a soggy, salty generic grilled cheese sandwich with lumps of discoloured fish in it.
Honestly, I should have sent it back, but was dining with friends and didn't want to slow down their meal.
To cleanse my mouth from that assault, I ordered a virgin pina colada. Close to ten minutes passed before the server came back to say they couldn't make one because -- are you ready for this?-- the kitchen didn't have a blender. A BLENDER?! What kitchen doesn't have a blender?! Instead, she offered to make it some other way which I agreed to. I shouldn't have. What I got was pina colada mix that kept separating, making me fear it was curdling.
Then the bill came and it was overpriced, natch.
All-in-all, not a pleasant experience. I think I'll stick to Earl's and Cactus Club from herein. -

Sometimes I will sacrifice food quality for a comfortable environment. A cushy booth with a big table overlooking a reasonable view coupled with modern but not too flashy decor. This is Moxies on Robson and it's a great place to go for a relaxing long lunch.
My job entails spending the better part of the day making calls to specific firms downtown; Working out your car all day is not always conducive to productivity or comfort. I stopped in at Moxies this week with a colleague and it was just what the doctor ordered- relaxing and quiet with lots of room for us to spread out our documents and laptops. The service and food wasn't bad either! I had the kitsilano sandwich which is chicken breast wrapped in naan with grilled asparagus spears and tomato sauce. I could have used a little less sauce and a couple more asparagus spears but it was quite tasty. My colleague had the beef dip with no complaints. Ask for a booth with a street view and you can dine and enjoy watching the punters shlep their goods up and down Robson Strasse. -

Our third stop in one night, so we only came for a few drinks in the lounge..so base my review on that. Decor is very modern with dark woods, clean, and shiny accents. Seemed to have a bit of well..Moxie.
A bit of a club feel, not a family restaurant type atmosphere, at least especially on a Saturday night.
Our Waitress were quite friendly and personable. She stayed with us and chatted a little. Overall, the crowd was mostly under mid 20's, so my being there up'd the average.
So we didn't try the food, but I would come back because the menu does look quite diverse. -

Monday - Thursday you can get 2 beers and wings for $12. Salt and pepper wings rock, but the beer is either Canadian or Coors so that kinda sucks.
The bar is a pretty good place to watch a game but it can fill up pretty fast.
It's like Cactus Club on the cheap though. There is a patio but it gets no sunlight. While you get a nice view of Robson street you also get a nice view of a sunny Earls patio.
The service kinda sucks but the girls are all hired because they are beautiful. So don't go here on a date as you will end up conflicted with the tip. Ya she's good looking but the service sucks and your date will be watching how much you put out for a bimbo. Do however go here to eat with friends it's great priced food and a good hang out. -

I think Moxie's puts a new spin on a few classic dishes, throws in a bit of great service and a toss of ambiance and success!
In all seriousness my waitress and the hostess were both AMAZING. The restaurant was clean and well decorated with sleek booths and dark woods. The bar area was nice as well and I would definitely stop in just for the happy hour specials.
On this occasion I was having a solo lunch and ordered the "big boy" special brew which was one of the daily drink specials. Also had the pot stickers as an appetizer which came with pineapple chunks and bell pepper. It was tasty. Followed the appetizer up with the beef tip sandwich and chicken gumbo. The gumbo was spicy but manageable, could have used more chicken. The sandwich was amazing.
I'm sure next time I'm shopping on Robson I would stop in... -

Dehydrated and exhausted from the Olympic festivities, we decided to make a stop here to grab a bite and a drink. We were thirsty and hungry!! The restaurant was actually not too busy, so we were able to get a window seat. I love the window seats here because you can look down onto Robson Street and people watch. Or car watch.
There are tables by the window which have large comfy seats, so it's a nice refuge. We were seated right away and greeted by our awesome waitress. She came back within 5 minutes and we ordered our iced teas. We decided on sharing the california fish tacos-crispy chipotle-lime marinated cod, grilled whole wheat tortillas, shredded greens, guacamole and salsa fresca and we subbed the spring mix salad with yam fries. Our drinks came right away, and we were so thirsty that we finished it quickly. The waitress came within mintues, with a new iced tea, for both of us! This is probably one of the rare times that I got a refill without even having to ask for one. I was pleasantly suprised.
The tacos were good, but I've had better. The cod was a little bit over battered, and there was a little bit too much cabbage, but the salsa fresca and the guacmole added something extra to this. (Maybe I'm just comparing these to La Taquiera tacos, and nothing will beat La Taqueira tacos!) Attentive throughout the night, our watiress came back with more and more iced teas, without us even asking her. She must have realized that we were thirsty, given the rate that we were drinking these. I love this great service-if only we got it everywhere we go!
No autogratuity, but I would have been glad to shell out a bit more because our server was just that good. A great end to an eventful Friday night! -

We came here for one thing and one thing only : The banana caramel xango (chan'go).
I haven't been here in years, but if the following description tickles your fancy.. (taken from their website) you won't be disappointed..
A creamy, light banana cheesecake wrapped in a pastry tortilla, dusted with cinnamon-sugar and served with warm caramel, ribbons of chocolate and french vanilla ice cream.
My description: A warm banana cheescake filled churro!
Great with the ice cream, but it does get quite sweet if you swirl in the caramel and chocolate sauce. -

I still wish Yelp would allow 1/2 stars! This is a 4.5.
While in Vancouver for my first trip to attend a convention, some co-workers and I started looking for an interesting place to eat with a nice patio. We first stopped at Joe Forte's but the wait was over 2 hours for a patio table! So we wandered down Robson Street and spotted Moxie. From the outside it looked like a very casual burger type joint. But once you get inside, its a lot more. Beautiful interior, very modern and comfortable.
We were greeted warmly and were told a patio table would be 15 min, so we went to sit in the bar and have a drink and wait. Our cocktail waitress was very nice and took orders quickly. I had one of the best Mojitos ever. Nicely done.
After about 20 min, we were called to our table. It's a smaller patio, but nice. Waitress was over in about 5 min and warmly greeted us, and took a new drink order and some apps. We had the sweet potato fries and schechwan string beans. The fries came in about 10 in. They were cooked perfectly and had 2 sauces, a chipotle aiole and a curry aiole, very nice!
We ordered dinner, I had the roaster chicken with goat cheese, my part had a steak salad, sirloin Oscar, and halibut.
They came in a bout 15 min, a bit slow we thought.
However all the meals were wonderful! All were cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. My chicken came with a rice pilaf and broccoli. The broccoli was great! Either cooked in a lemon water, or more likely had freshed squeezed lemon.
We did not have desserts.
All in all a very pleasant dinning experience. I would definitely come back here. -

I was here in early January with two tothers, and it was terrible. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. And then got worse.
We all ordered steak. None of them were cooked correctly, and one of them was the wrong kind. When they brought new ones, they still weren't cooked correctly (from raw to charred, I just wanted medium rare like a normal person), they messed up our sides and a different steak was the wrong kind! We ordered a second, different, bottle of wine and they were out (it wasn't super special, absolutely no reason they shouldn't have had it in stock). For a while the waitress claimed they were out of horseradish (a steak house? really? wtf.). Then she started getting huffy when we expressed we still weren't happy. The manager was totally clueless, got flustered and confrontational, but managed to find the horseradish. We never did get all the right steaks, cooked correctly with the proper sides. He then disappeared (abandoning his staff and leaving us to deal with the grumpy waitress) and couldn't be found until right before we left, with no explanation.
Crappy food, crappy service. At least they didn't insist we pay. -

The food is good, drink selection is good, and the waitresses are hot... especially the Asian one with the large boobies... WOW @@... too bad she wasn't serving me.
