I'm not so much the type to frequent coffee shops.  This is hugely because I quit drinking coffee a few years ago and so therefore have gotten over the need for a coffee fix on the way to work or wherever.  I just recently started working in the same  plaza as Mountain Bean and one rainy morning I was there early and no one else had arrived yet thus I was locked out.  I headed into Mountain Bean for some refuge. I had such a great experience there I know this is the one coffee shop I will frequent.

I was under the impression that they opened at 7am on Saturdays and it was about 7.45am.  It turns out that they actually don't open untill 8am on Saturday however the extremely smiley and cheerful staff member had no problems with me hanging out in there for a bit to escape the weather while she was opening up the shop.

The whole place has a very living room-esque feel.  It's also somewhat dark in there.  The bathrooms are spotless which in my and most others books always gives a huge plus to any eating/drinking establishment.

I was surprised a bit to see how extensive their menu is as I was expecting just your usual coffee-lattes-muffins-croissant type deal.  While they do offer all those things they also have a ton of super yummy looking breakfast omelette sandwiches with some other delectable looking pastries (I wonder if they bake them all in house?) and have a full separate menu of blended drinks and protein shakes.  I went with the protein drink called N.R.G (get it??????) which was divine. I can't remember exactly what was in it but I think there was a banana included in the mix somewhere.

And the staff member serving me was so sweet and lovely, seriously it was some of the best service I've ever gotten.

Mountain Bean Coffee Co. provides you with a log cabin feeling at Bayview and Eglinton. The rustic ambiance gives you that warm comfortable retreat feeling with wood and stone walls, big brown leather chairs and decor makes you think of snowy mountains. They also have a patio that seats around 10 people, nothing special especially since it faces the strip malls parking lot (in other words don't go for the view).

I had been meaning to come here for a while now (the first time we came it was closed even though the store hours claimed it should be open for another 3 hours, I guess they had closed early that day).

The cappuccino we ordered was confusingly sweet (since it wasn't ordered that way) but the ice cappuccino was pretty tasty.

The washrooms are big, clean and in keeping with the mountain theme.

I wouldn't go out of my way to check this place out (especially since they don't seem to stick to their posted hours) but if you're in the area it's an okay option for a change of pace.

Leather Armchair + Large LCD(Steelers vs. Bills) w/overhead  Speakers + Caramel Hot Chocolate + Log Cabin Feel = zzzZZZZzzzZZZZZZ(Fall alseep home comfy satisfaction)

Parking outside limits you to 2 hours so I would call it more of a nap then REM cycle.  The kids took the Fireplace area to do their business group assignment and I'm guessing they Wi-Fi'd it.

Friendly staff gave us Mugs for our dine-in Drinks but very generic un-cafe style Beverage Mugs.  My drink was A-OK although I wished for more Cocoa consistency.  The setup here is almost too themed and kid-friendly like Rainforest Cafe at Yorkdale.

I figured if I'm going to a Log Cabin, I might as well have a Hot Cocoa.  Maybe the area near the LCD and Fireplace even has a Chalet feel to it.  I didn't have an Coffee at Mountain Bean Coffee so I will leave that comment for the next Yelper.

I like the cheesy decoration of Mountain Bean Coffee Co. OK I don't dream about going to Ski Chalet or hanging out with the Special someone in front of a glowing fireplace... But the deco here does give it a nice and cozy feeling... :P

    Free Wifi! Hey yes!!

I have to request mugs for staying in, if not the (friendly and laid back) staffs will just makes all the drinks in paper cups.. Why do I have to drink from paper cups in a Chalet?

The cappuccino is A-OK! Good place to let your sport loving friends to chill..so people just happy to watch any sport games whenever they can :P

    Meh.

It'll do when I just want to grab a cup of joe. I ask for a latte with skim milk and no foam, yet my cup is full of foam... how annoying. The pastries look like they were purchased at the Metro across the street. It all can't be bad. The decor is cozy and there heaps of seats to choose from. There's free WiFi too, but I think this is standard.

    Take it or leave it.

This spot was a Second Cup. I don't ever recall a Second Cup closing, so I find it interesting that a CDN west coast coffee joint would set up shop at this location. I would be interested to find out why they chose this spot.

I am honestly not sure if this locale will stand the test of time. I think Mountain Bean's first Ontario location (they have 2 other locations - Manitoba and BC) should have been in Collingwood or something. Say up at Blue Mountain - I think it would do great up there, actually.

This is not a city cafe. In fact, it is the exact opposite. You walk in, you smell a lot of wood and you feel like you are in a cabin. You turn around and look out the window and see you are still at Eglinton and Bayview but feel transported up north.

I hate to stereotype, but this place has moose mugs and other rugged, outdoors, traditional male tones. I am wondering if it is because Mountain Bean is owned by former NHL goalie, Trevor Kidd.

There is a lot of pine in here with some high lacquer finish going on. There is also a huge flat screen TV in the back (was not on during my visit).

To test out the quality, I ordered a regular coffee. I wanted to see what they had "on tap". On a positive note, the coffee is organic - a strong point in my books. The sizing is HUGE! I ordered a medium, it is easily equivalent to a Tim Hortons or Second Cup large. At $1.99, the price point puts it between Tim Hortons and Second Cup.

I chose a mild house blend. It was okay. I mean, it wasn't great, wasn't horrible - just okay. I did get take out because I just can't imagine sitting in this place. I guess I truly am a city girl.

Maybe I will be wrong about this place. Perhaps it will be the outdoor oasis for local families, wanting a bit of the cottage life in their cafe.

Regardless, I am interested to see what is going to happen to this spot over the coming months. I might go back and try their bold, just to see what the difference is. But, the decor/style of the joint is just not my cup of joe, so I will be getting take out.
