    There's no place like Motoraunt.

The food at here is amazing and made fresh.  The restaurant  looks like an RV converted into a diner, it is really something to see. The atmosphere is amazing and the people are even better. The place has so much to take in that you are in awe while you wait for your food. I have never experienced anything quite like it.  The monster burger is the best!

I would recommend that every try this place out because it is amazing. Plan a night around it and go with a bunch of friends. You will not be disappointed.

If you were to drive by the Motoraunt, and didn't know it was an Edmonton culinary institution, you might conclude it was a plain, old civic eyesore.

And even if you are hip to this famous burger joint whose nexus is a converted double-decker bus with a Cadillac Eldorado engine, fortified (barely) by a dilapidated shanty town of add-on roofs, rooms and patios, you may still conclude the place looks like a dump - albeit one with a certain je ne sais quoi ... character?!

If you like extraordinarily large burgers and collections of kitsch you must visit the Motoraunt. It's the home of the original Monster burger - containing two ounces of beef stuffed between one colossal bun that four people can eat, if sharing novel things is your thing.

I am not a burger fan, so I went for the homemade fries and gravy and they were exactly as above-average greasy-spoon fare ought to taste. No complaints on the food front ... but the service was slow. The owner, Carol's brother, is helping her out until she closes up shop in a matter of weeks - after almost 30 years (the rent went WAY up) - and while he was charming and eager-to-please he was no waiter.

He brought me reading material for the wait - some kitschy coffee-stained book on the Best of Edmonton, in which Motoraunt is featured in the Top-Five-Places-to-Eat list.

But that's cool. I really didn't mind the wait. The Motoraunt is the kind of place you will want to kick back and take your time to enjoy ... like a well-worn porch upon which more beer was consumed and aimless broken-record conversations unfurled, than up-keep ever done. Literally. (The city tripled the rent and bylaw handed them a to-do list even Holmes on Homes would scoff at).

I chose a table in part-shade, near a garden of sunflowers, growing from rusted coloured tin-can pots. I noticed an old-school cassette tape ghetto-blaster sitting on a chair, a retro eye-sore, no doubt, to today's typical iphone-toting megalo-gadget maniacs old enough to even identify said object, that is.

While the place was virtually empty, there were a few customers scattered through various sections. The Motoraunt covers four lots, and you can sit under a canopy of trees in the backyard, on one of several sheltered patios or indoors, where you might dine next to an old nine-inch T.V. with faded colour or a garish Christmas tree that lost its festive mojo back, oh, I dunno, in the summer of 1989!

If you are an Edmontonian or want to catch a slice of E-town before it's gone - just go. Fast! Before Motoraunt drives off into the sunset and is just a tired. old legend of burger-has-beens.

Years ago, my brother and I used to giggle when we'd drive by the east-end pink trailer topped with a sign reading "Monster Burger." One summer day, we actually decided to stop.
The Motoraunt provides one of the most eccentric dining experiences one could hope to have in Edmonton.
We parked, ordered burgers, fries and milkshakes at the walk-up trailer window from a woman whose makeup resembled Mimi from the Drew Carey Show, and sat down in white plastic chairs atop an astroturf-covered patio, amid white-plastic potted cherry tomato plants. The food was, surprisingly, great and the atmosphere made me feel like we were on some kind of Appalachian hillbilly road trip.
Eventually I excused myself and went in search of the washroom, which was located in a trailer with a top floor used as a stuffy, hot indoor dining area. The search got a little confusing as I think I may have inadvertently stumbled into the owner's living room, but things turned out all right.
The Motoraunt is extremely out of the way but well worth the drive; now I can't wait for summertime.

I discovered this place while looking through old Vue Weekly's "featured dinner places" or whatever it is.. While it took FOREVER to find, and the stepping back to look at what I was getting myself into.. It was definitely worth it. Once you get past the shotty exterior, the interior is eye opening. I love the old action figures placed upon its shelves and the Goosebumps collection along with other great trinkets to giggle at and reminisce.  It has a lovely homely feel to it and the waitress/cook almost feels like your mother. The menu is very affordable, I always get a burger with all the extra toppings for a dollar, which makes it the price of a regular burger anywhere else. I have yet to tackle said infamous "Monster Burger" but I'm sure I will soon!

Motoraunt may take some people aback because it is a restaurant located inside an old motor home which, frankly, looks grubby and not particularly well taken care of. If you summon the courage to walk in, you will again be taken aback: the place is filled with tons of objects - from old books and antique furniture to thousands of non-strategically placed knick knacks. The place doesn't feel decorated, it feels crammed and overstuffed. Once your eyes stop wandering around and trying to make sense of what is going on around you and how the hell did you wind up here, you can choose to have a sit at either first floor or on the second level. My friends and I chose to dine upstairs. Here you will find small booths which provide comfortable seating, dusty windows that provide the view of the outside world, and many more knick knacks. At that point you may start worrying about the quality of food served here, and wonder whether it will be good and fresh enough to consume. The waitress comes along shortly after you and your company grab a seat, but after ordering, gets ready to wait for your food to arrive. When my friends and I came here, there were about 4 other customers in the diner, and still we had to wait half an hour for our food to make its way onto our table. The wait doesn't seem too long because everybody is busy discussing Motoraunt and its bizarreness. Once your food arrives, everyone is sure to quiet down and dig in because the food is delicious. The menu consists of simple comfort foods such as burgers, hot dogs and French fries, and a couple of desserts. Portion sizes are more than ample; and every single ingredient is top notch: be it a beef patty, fresh tomatoes, spicy mustard or bun itself. The burgers are simply mouthwatering! Homemade French fries are perfectly salty but a bit too greasy to my liking; however my friends seemed to love them as they simply swept the fries off the plate in two minutes. Dessert may be hard to consume because main dishes are so hearty and fulfilling.
Motoraunt is an unusual place; and even though it is long overdue for a good old scrub and maybe little redecorating, this place is charming, cozy and has atmosphere not found at any other diners or restaurants in town.

An absolute institution in Edmonton, my parents used to take me to the Motoraunt when it was just the big pink bus on Jasper Ave. It still has great (huge) homemade burgers and perfect greasy fries for a great price. The service is friendly but super slow (there's just one lady doing the cooking and serving). The decor is so kitsch it's hilariously cool. Unfortunately it looks like the Motoraunt is probably closing for good in September, so get your nostalgic burger fix in before then.
