When it comes to quality of food and quality of service, Morris East always goes above and beyond the call of duty. We showed up at 6:30 on a Friday night to a full house and were told the wait would be about 15 minutes. 15 minutes turned in to 20 which turned in to 30, but as compensation for the wait we were treated to a few beverages and appetizers on the house. It felt like the entire staff was doing everything in their power to make us as comfortable as possible. When we did get seated our order was taken right away and the food came out quickly.

    1. Maple roasted butternut squash with candied walnut salad - SO delicious. It's sweet, it's savoury, it's a salad with candy in it. What's not to like?
    2. Stuffed mushroom cap - A good-sized portabello cap stuffed with tomato, cheese, and artichoke-cashew pesto. Delectable. If I was a vegetarian, I could eat only this and be very very happy.
    3. Cappriciosa pizza - I love a pizza loaded high with toppings, and this one fit the bill with mushroom, tomatoes, artichokes and chicken piled on.
    4. Daily special pizza - I don't know what it was, but it was like a caprese salad on a pizza with the addition of large slices of a turkey-based salami (or pastrami or pepperoni or some other meat ending in "i"). Tasty, tasty stuff.

Beyond the fact that the food is fabulous, it's really the serving staff that make this place an absolute treat to visit. It just doesn't get any better than Jennie Dobbs and her crew.

With fifty reviews, it almost seems pointless to yell into the void, but Morris East deserves it. And I don't have anything to do at work right now.

Morris East has been one of those places where I've heard nothing but good things about and yet I've never gone there until last week. Despite living three blocks away. Well a couple weeks ago, I cleansed myself of this shame with a delicious meal and all around wonderful experience.

My significant other and I went here on a Thursday night, which as it turns out is their burger night. With my all research on burgers, both with my mind and mouth (ok, mostly mouth) I always like to try a new burger. Tonight the burger comprises of ground short rib with roasted jalapenos mixed in the meat, smoked cheddar and of course bacon, along with some potato wedges on the side. After our orders are taken by our friendly and attentive waitress, I sip on a Propeller pilsner and take in the sights - the place still feels new and chic with lots of exposed brick  and modern interior designing. There's an interesting mix of customers ranging from your 'hip' older crowd to my 20-something peers and even a family. Good food attracts all sorts, I suppose!

Upon it's arrival, I'm eager to try my burger. It comes open faced, allowing you to dress it  to your content, with a cup of house-made ketchup and some arugula. The burger is well executed with a nice beef flavour and the jalapenos are noticeable, although they don't overwhelm the other toppings. Both the cheese and bacon add a nice smokiness, however I wish the burger came with more toppings of the vegetable variety to add some other flavours and textural contrasts; the sprigs of arugula that come with it don't quite cut it.

This being a a fancy-ish restaurant I figured I wasn't going to receive a pile of sweet potato wedges and pondered getting an appetizer since I was famished, and alas I should have. There's only three or four wedges and although they're a good size, this only makes them unwieldy and outside the realm of finger food and in knife and fork land. Although being somewhat skeptical about trying to improve upon the perfection that is Heinz ketchup, the house-made stuff grows on me and I slather it on each bite of sweet potato. It has a much more pronounced tomato flavour than commercial ketchup, and along with some spices and acidity, it has a great flavour.

To finish things off we split a peanut butter tart with honeycomb. With the aforementioned ingredients and plenty of chocolate, what's not to love?

While I couldn't make myself give them a five star, it should be noted that a four star for Morris East is higher than the same rating for most other restaurants; they're in a higher class and I expect more. That said, it is a fantastic restaurant and I can't wait to go back!

On my latest visit to Morris East I had the special, ground short rib burger with mixed greens and potato au gratin.

The burger was amazing, juicy and not overcooked, but with some crispy bits. Sweet caramelized onions, cheese and a housemade ketchup made this one of the best burgers I've had in Halifax.

The potatoes were a baked, cheesy casserole sort of thing, but fluffy, flavourful and not heavy at. Can't beat it.

It's true, I love pizza. Throw a frozen one in the oven and I'm happy as a pig in..

    Enter Morris East.

This lil' corner joint is easy to miss; it blends into the building quite well but once in there their local art (which is for sale) will inspire you, their food will ignite you, and their service will engage you!

Morris East offers different pizzas which to prove to be unique; mushroom- about 6 different mushrooms sliced with mozzarella and greens! This is just one of many! The crust is crispy, thin, and is offered in traditional and whole wheat, and they both taste fantastic.

It's a cute date spot that offers a nice lunch and dinner. But beware, you will frequent until you've tasted the menu.

I always find myself searching for something more in a slice. Something more than pep and cheese at pizza corner. Morris East is just that. The precision, love, and creativity that go into these wood-fired babies is through the roof.

When you walk in the ambiance and décor take your eyes on a tactile journey. From the brick to the paintings to the deliciously colored wood pane windows, you know your gonna want to eat what they're cooking up.  Just what are they cooking in? A wood fired oven from Naples that burns apple wood from the valley. No big deal. The smell of the wood fire alone entirely tickles your taste buds.

I've been here a couple times with my boyfriend and once with the yelpers to test out the new brunch menu and check out the new booth at the Halifax Seaport Market.

Even after all that, my favorite thing about Morris East? The local ingredients! Some of their suppliers include Farmer's, Garrison, Hutten Family Farm, Noggin's Corner, Just Us, Oulton's, and Propellor. So much love.

My first experience was a peach pizza on whole wheat crust with goat cheese, rosemary aioli and prosciutto. Scrumptious. All the ingredients compliment one another so nicely and the care and consideration that go into preparing your meal is through da roof. My boyfriend had the free range chicken with mint yogurt, grapes, and cashews. Who would've thunk? Mouthgasm.

It doesn't just stop with the food; the drinks are hand master-crafted using an array of ingredients. The mixologist, Katrina Roberts, knows her stuff and brews quite a class of creativity.

Ok, seriously, just go eat here. This place is magic. It's located in a beautiful space that is both dramatic in its simplicity and warm in its character. Perfect on a warm summer night or blustery winter day. Either way, you'll feel like you're sitting in a friend's kitchen. It's comfy and delightful.

Aside from the food and drink (and I'm getting to that), I love how calm this place feels. The space is small and seats 40 tops, but it never feels frantic or frenetic. There's never an "oh my goodness we're slammed" buzz in this place. The staff are warm and accommodating and more professional than most I've encountered.

All of that is almost enough to go back over and over again. But then there's the drinks and the food. Their cocktails are out of this world. Interesting, unique and custom mixes with cordials (like Pear Cardamom) and other homemade things, don't start your meal without one. And, if you're lucky enough to be there when they have their Meyer Lemon Tom Collins on the menu, get it. Bottom line: the folks here are doing some of the most interesting cocktails in the city.

The food menu is seasonal, which I adore. It means they focus on fresh, local produce and serve you what's growing now. Not 6 months ago. Start with the warm olives. That's a strict order. Their pizza is cooked in a special wood-fired oven that was brought over from Italy and they're always interesting. The Blue pizza is my personal favourite, topped with proscuitto and, of course, blue cheese. But there's always something interesting on the menu, including grilled peach and goat cheese pizza, when peaches are in season.

And, please, please, be sure to try the salted caramel tart. It will rock your world and leave you trying to figure out their caramel secret.

Note: they're currently closed Mondays and don't take reservations. And, a little known-fact is that they do Saturday brunch. Find your way there for that, too.

Morris East has been a raining day favourite of mine since they opened. I usually find myself there on a rainy day enjoying half a fresh woodfired oven pizza and one of their always amazing soups.

Although today was a beautiful, sunny Autumn day my mother was in town and looking to try something new. Since she is a veggie and I'm a meat lover I was worried about where to eat. When I suggested Morris East my mother jumped at the chance and told me shes been hearing all about the place (for someone who spends half her time in China and half in the Valley I somewhat doubt that!).

Our waitress told us the soup of the day was 'curried cauliflower' and to that I responded, 'You had me at curry!'. We both ordered a half pizza, Mum had the mushroom with many different varieties of mushrooms plus a very fragrant truffle oil, yum! I chose an old favourite 'Blue' with blue cheese,  prosciutto and arugula - simple and delicious every time! Although both pizzas were amazing - the soups at Morris East are always the best! I especially loved this one since I am a fan of any calciferous vegetable but it also was not cream or milk based and really let the ingredients be the stars!

On a separate occassion, I went with a girl friend and had the best and most unique pizza ever!  Butter chicken tandori sauce was used as the base, then came layers of spinach, roast chicken then it was topped with cashews, grapes and a mint yogurt! Sounds very strange but it was one of the best things I have ever eaten!

On a whim, myself and two others decided to drop by Morris East on Friday night for dinner. As usual, the joint was packed, but that's okay, it's worth the wait.

We were assured about 20 min for a wait, and since the weather is so nice, we whiled away the time outside. What I loved though, was as we were close to getting a table, our adorable waiter insisted that he bring us a drink while we waited for a table. Classy or not, I happily sipped my glass of wine in the entryway.

As usual, dinner was delicious - this time I tried the peach and prosciutto pizza with goat cheese on a gluten-free crust. Simply Ah-maze-ing. I can't say enough good things about this place, and I know I'll soon be back for more!

It's been awhile since I've been here for dinner, so let's focus on my prix fixe lunch. It's a deal and a half y'all. For reals.

For $14, I had a half pizza (mushroom - full of different kinds of mushrooms...I was in mushroom heaven), greens and a tart.  They aren't skimpy on the half pizza, so it's plenty for lunch (but not too much). The greens are good, but nothing to write home about (some kind of lettuce. I don't know what, but I ate it all. The dressing was tasty). I had lemonade with lunch and it was some of the best I've had in a long time (not too sweet).

But the tart. The salted caramel tart. Holy. Crap. I never wanted it to end. (it did...I'm still thinking about it). It's included in the prix fixe and this is what kicks the prix fixe into the deal category (because the 1/2 pizza would have cost $13 sans tart. And you want the tart. Trust).

Service was good, but I kind of wish it was a bit faster during lunch, since I'm on a stricter timeline than I'd usually be when I hit up a restaurant. However, I will say that if I wasn't watching the clock, I probably wouldn't make this comment.

Also! Not related to my lunch - if you have a chance to pick up their tomato sauce or raspberry daiquiri mix to go, do it. Was given both as gifts and they are awesomesauce.

Oh my goodness, what can I say, this place just does things right. I went on a date night, when we couldn't decide where to go, and just happened to be driving by. We got the free range chicken pizza, and oh my tandori goodness it was delicious. Top it off with a tasty and creative martini (I couldn't tell you what was in it but it was good) and a Mill St Organic for my partner, and we were in heaven. The menu has some interesting things that you don't initially think would go together, but seem to work. I liked it, and I'll definitely be back.

Morrie! Can I call you that? You and I should be friends. Not because we get along like a fired up brick oven, but because you know me inside and out. You read minds.

Okay, well maybe you don't read minds, but you sure know how to top a pizza. My "Pear" was perfection: beets, pears, cheese, arugula. Nom. Nom. Nom. And the offering of a whole wheat or gluten-free crust wasn't overkill. No my friend, it was pure perfection.

From what I saw 360 degrees around me, there's no doubt about it, pal, you're the toppings, errr, tops! And then you went and blew my mind with a gluten-free chocolate cheesecake. And you know what? You didn't even have to go that far. I was already mesmerized by your sweet as pizza pie staff, the Bees Knees cocktail, your daily specials chalk board, and the up-high spot you stashed our coats.

Morrie, come here - I need to give you a big ol hug. Smmmoooooch!

A decision you wont regret! The first time I visited Morris East I was extremely impressed by the service I received from their staff. Our waitress was extremely friendly and showed a genuine interest towards creating a unique dining experience. Morris East is a great place to take that special someone on a date, or a casual evening out with friends.  Morris East is dining done right!

I think my expectations were too high for this place. The pizza was good, but as another reviewer said, the menu wasn't all that big. We had the flat bread and dips to start, which was pretty good. I'm not sure what the dips were, and it would have been nice had we been told (either before or after they arrived), but then we didn't take the initiative to ask either, so maybe that was our fault.

The pizza was nice and tasty (pepperoni and red peppers). It's got a great kick to it and was more than enough for two people to share (bearing in mind we shared the appetizer too!). We even had some left overs to take home. Never bad!

The cocktails and dessert were probably the highlight of our meal. The daiquiris were fantastic and the homemade marshmallow s'more was incredible. They cook it in their pizza over and it's toasted to perfection. I think the waitress thought I was going to lick the plate. I was sad when she took it away. There was still chocolate to be scraped!

Overall, I think it's a nice enough place to go for dinner. I wouldn't say no if someone suggested it, but it wouldn't be my first choice either.

Just as an aside, even though I wasn't blown away by the food, the atmosphere and service were, as everyone has already mentioned, flawless!

I could be in the middle of open heart surgery and, if someone were to mention going to Morris East, I would hop off the operating table and get my ass down to this fantastic restaurant.

Truly, this pizza restaurant is one of my favourite places in town. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience here. The only time I had *slightly* slow service, the staff was incredibly apologetic and even offered two free desserts.

This, of course, speaks to the high quality of service you will receive at Morris East. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Do not hesitate to ask any questions, as the staff will never make you feel bad for asking and are always happy to provide thorough answers.

I will caution that this not the place to go to, if you're looking for the most traditional types of pizza. If you're in the mood for pizza that looks like it came off a factory line, go to Pizza Corner or order from one of the many pizza places in this city. Go to Morris East if you're in the mood for wood-fired pizza that looks like it was assembled and cooked with thought and care.

Before you get to the pizza, though, you really do need to get a starter. I get the duo of dips every time, because I'd be hard pressed to find a better dip in the city. I've also had the cheese plate and it was similarly great.

It's hard to recommend a single pizza, since the menu changes seasonally at Morris East. What you love in the winter will quite possibly be gone in the spring. However, the margherita pizza is certainly on the menu to stay and, although it may seem plain in comparison to the other pizzas, it holds its own in every way.

I've also been impressed with the customizations that Morris East allows. With my most recent margherita, for example, I added pepperoni (an on-menu option) and carmelized onions (not on the menu, but a great addition). Another person at my table ordered the "Bacon and Fennel" pizza with no fennel. This is refreshing, since some other high quality pizza places are not as flexible with their pies.

Morris East also boasts probably my favourite dessert menu in the city. The salted caramel tart is pretty much my ideal after-dinner treat. There really isn't much that could make me wish I had ordered anything else. That said, another at my table had the sundae and it looked incredible and made me just the slightest bit green with envy. I've yet to try the s'more, but it's on my (extensive) to-eat list.

I honestly can't recommend Morris East enough. I anxiously await out-of-town visitors, so I can introduce them to this Halifax gem.

3.5 stars. I had heard the hype of Morris East and decided to check it out for an early dinner on Saturday night. I surprised myself and did not order any cocktails so I cannot speak to the quality of those. I ordered the special pizza which consisted of a browned butter sauce, butternut squash and red onions. The pizza was very good but there were supposed to be 3 cheeses on the pizza and I could barely taste or see any cheese. I know this is a minimalist type place but I still like cheese on my pizza. The whole wheat crust was good and the flavors of the pizza did meld well together. The service was friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. However, paying $20 including tax for a medium sized individual pizza seems just too much.

One of my favorite restaurants in Halifax. It's a small neighborhood eatery, with a cozy, inviting atmosphere. They have the best servers in the city, warm and professional. Their menu is on the small side, but changes are made to it monthly. They always have a great, limited selection of cocktails, beer and wine. Their pizza's are wood fired and amazing. The toppings are unique, but my favorite is the Margarita, it's a true test of a pizza place to have an amazing pizza with just sauce, cheese and basil. The desserts are also delicious, my favorite is the homemade wood fired smore, simply awesome.

The prices are higher than your average pizza place, but is a great value for the quality of the food. I love that they focus on seasonal, local ingredients and are willing to accommodate diners with special diets.  This would be a great first date restaurant.

Hey - its opening time at Morris East and there is no line-up! Hey - its Dine Around month and I didn't even know it - boy am I embarrased!

First things first. Morris East has been the cornerstone of consistency since it opened. Serving lots and lots of locally produced food in tasty packages big and small. FYI - it may specialize in pizzas, but it is so much more. For instance tonight we tried a Citadel Gin martini which was extraordinary. They even serve some Atlantic Canadian vodka - now you don't get that at many pizza joints.

For the Dine Around menu I had the ravioli, lamb pizza and cranberry and clementine crisp - again show me another pizza place with that kind of menu. All of it was fantastic! Enough said - try it and you will like it.

Now for Dine Around. It is a month to get fantastic deals on set meals all across Halifax: http://www.edining.ca/.... The best restaurants, the best food at the best price - and I almost missed it this year. With only a couple of days left - get out there, eat and then review on Yelp. You will not be sorry!

What a wonderful little spot in Halifax! It's on the small-ish side, but let come across as a strength, since it means that the service is that much more personalized (and wonderful). The staff even took our coats and umbrellas when we came in so that they wouldn't be in the way: truly appreciated!

The menu changes depending on the ingredients available, but from what I sampled that won't be much of an issue since everything is absolutely delicious.

By far one of my fave restos in the city. Anytime I have friends visiting from out of town - this is the first place I take them to.

You can't go wrong with any of the pizzas on the menu (wood fired oven) - from their veggie to lamb to everything in between. Organic, local ingredients are used for the most part (which is always nice).
Their wine menu is fantastic as well!

    Cozy, funky atmosphere.

If you have gluten allergies - they also offer gluten-free options (which is great!).

Had the opportunity to try this little gem recently. Great experience. The folks at Morris East take pizza to a whole new level. From the varied starters, a great Chilean red wine, and toppings for your pie not offered elsewhere.
Its nice to see local suppliers used when possible, and the gluten free crust option, gives pizza back to those with gluten intolerance.
Our server, Janice, was attentive, but not overbearing. Very informed, and a genuine pleasure to have met. I find I judge a business on how their employees appear / are treated. Morris East seems to " take care of their people".
    Will definitely recommend / return!

We love this place!  It may be small but their drinks are de-lish and the menu was just right for their size!  Service is great and our server was knowledgeable about the food.  We'll be back!

Full of love: that's the kind of place Morris East is. The menu changes monthly according to what local, organic ingredients are available and the results are mouthwatering.

Eating a meal at this laid-back, cozy spot is like sharing a meal in a friend's home rather than in a restaurant. Last year on my birthday, I mentioned how homey I found Morris East to the owner and she gave me a big hug and a complimentary cocktail. This is a place that does not take its customers for granted.

For pizza lovers, inventive combinations such as lamb, charred onion, apricot, spiced tomato sauce as well as more traditional combinations of tomato, fresh mozzarella and fresh basil top the delicious pizzas cooked in the 300 lb. imported wood-fired oven. Served on a thin crust, customers can choose from a choice of traditional, whole wheat or gluten-free crusts. For non-pizza lovers, there are a few weeknight specials such as cannelloni and a short rib burger.

The pizzas are a generous size--very filling when gobbled down by one's self and still filling when shared.

The trademark dish of pizza is complimented with an extensive selection of appetizers and desserts. My favourite desserts are the salted caramel tart and the homemade s'more. The artisanal approach also extends to cocktails such as mojitos made with Nova Scotian mint which are pricey but tasty.

Service is usually very good, and is exceptional when the owner is present. In a recent move to increase menu, Morris East has introduced a take-out menu. This option is handy as reservations are not accepted and on a Friday or Saturday night, there can be quite a wait.

The food is not inexpensive ($15-$17 a pizza), but definitely worth what you pay in terms of quality.

Oh Morris East...you're too good to me. Last night's soundtrack of Prince's greatest hits while sipping strawberry-infused Bee's Knees cocktails? There is little better on this earth. I think I've ended up at this South End game-changer at least once a month so far in 2011 and it has taken effort to not bump that number up.

Last night I took in the new spring menu with great friends. Like I said, the Bee's Knees cocktail was fantastic albeit a wee bit boozy for the first sip. I mean that in a good way...you should just probably be prepared. We then moved on to the daily dip specials of roasted red pepper with goat's cheese (outrageously good) and a blend of carrot and fennel that really impressed me with its nice balance of flavours.

Now, before we move onto the pizza consumption, it's worth noting that the only thing more consistent than their incredible pies is their to-die-for service. I never feel more special than I do when I'm dining at Morris East, but not in a snooty way...I just feel like they really do care, that they have fun hosting their guests, and that you could roll in here by yourself for a night and still be among great company. They could teach classes in creating atmosphere, I swear.

It's embarrassing, but I always get the Margherita pizza. Lame, I know, but the ingredients are so fresh that each brings so much to the dish even though it's so simple. Someday I'll try the roasted veggie...My friends ordered the pear pizza and the blue cheese pizza, each topped with prosciutto and fresh arugula. I can't speak for how they enjoyed it, but let's just say the conversation died down for a solid two slices. We finished off with a nice local white and a slice of chocolate cheesecake so rich you'd swear it divorced Donald Trump at least once.

A friend suggested that I check this place out - oh man am I glad that I did. It's borderline upscale, so expect to pay a little more and dress a little nicer, but to also get your money's worth. Their pizza's had all kinds of different combinations and toppings that I would assume are changed regularly depending on the season. My pizza was DELICIOUS and their homemade bread dipper has my mouth watering just thinking about it. If you want to feel classy while eating some pizza, you defiantly need to try out this place!

Almost every day that goes by Morris East invades my senses and thoughts, and their name escapes my mouth. If you want lunch or dinner infused with quality, compassion, beauty, and an extra burst of five sensory happiness this is the establishment for you. Of course the food is superb, but so is the music, art, staff, and decor. I would love to walk around all day smelling like I just left Morris East.

Never do I hesitate to send anyone to Morris East. They can satisfy anyone with any kind of dietary needs. They even have an awesome gluten free crust! Morris East doesn't have vegan cheese (unfortunately) but they will omit the goats cheese on their roasted vegetable pizza and add tomato sauce to the crust to balance the moisture levels. So good!

    Long live Morris East!

    Awesome pizza!

I love fancy pizza places and this one fits the bill - organic and local ingredients, wood-fired thin crusts, great service - two thumbs up for me!  Gluten-free crusts available with a small surcharge.  Whole what also available but our server recommended staying with the classic white crust.

This place wasn't around when I was last in Halifax many years ago... it's a small local place with a nice selection of salads, small wine list, and of course... pizza!  Great quality toppings like prosciutto, blue cheese, goat cheese, banana peppers, arugula, lamb, apricot... the toppings sound strange, but the combos they're made are AMAZING!

I had the prosciutto, blue cheese and arugula pizza - FABULOUS!  Great flavors, perfect crust and totally not heavy or oily.  Nice size to share with another and I'd recommend sharing an appy if you're hungry.  Pizzas are reasonably priced at about $15-18 each.  Wish I had room for dessert.

Would definitely come back!  Great food and great service = LOVE.

Morris East is the best pizza I've had in Halifax by far. Its fresh and inspired with its combinations of toppings & spices. Pizza is cooked on in a wood-fired oven, creating heaven in bread form. Not too soft, not to crisp- its just right!

The rest of the menu works as well. Options are well conceived and made with care. By the time dessert rolls around, its likely you'll be ready to burst; however, I will encourage everyone to try the Wood-Fired S'More. Just sayin'.

The space is small, but in a way of atmospheric intimacy. Decor is chic and ambient, and seems to fall somewhere between a lounge and a day spa. Its a relaxed and comfortable environment with top grade food and good service. Hands down.

One last thing I must touch on. Morris East places emphasis on GOOD WINE and drinks. They are well researched and are consistently switching up their selection. As well, 'Happy hour' is offered everyday  from 5-6pm with great discounts on both cocktails and wine.

They don't take reservations, so its best to show up earlier if you want a seat. Delicious, fresh and wholesome (and yes, they buy local)... this place is a real treat.

Morris East has one of the Best Pizza's in town. You get what you pay for here. The crust is done to perfection when it comes out of their Wood-Fired Oven. Crisp with a fantastic sauce and spices.

This is a great place to go for a date. But prepare to drop a few dollars, so maybe it should be a second date. Everything is worth it here, great ambiance, spectacular food and a nice selection of wine and drinks, especially if you like Margarita's.

My first time at Morris East was shortly after they opened and I only had drinks/dessert. I do recall the little tart I tried being quite delicious though!

I really like that Morris East has created a happy hour! Pumpkin martini's can be had for a mere $5, and glasses of either the Astica Sauvignon Blanc Semillion or the Bodegas Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 for... wait for it... $4!! Happy Hour runs from 5pm-6pm nightly. Morris East also has a $10 corkage fee, so if you have a fancy bottle you've been saving, here's your chance to take it out for a night on the town.

The gourmet pizza's at Morris East sound amazing, so i'll definitely be in to try one of those in the near future.

I consider myself to be a fairly good judge of pizza. It is my favourite food and whenever I travel I make a point of seeking out the 'best pizza' in the area. I have had great pizza all over the world. In fact, given the choice,  pizza would be my last meal - unless it was from Morris East.

The atmosphere and decor of Morris East is funky and cool. The greeter was very friendly and inviting. Our server was top notch and very knowledgeable about the ingredients and the menu. the staff seem to enjoy what they are doing and that's great to see.

My wife, daughter and I ordered the caprissosa, the margarita and the mushroom pizzas.

We were very disappointed with the margarita. The sauce was bland and lacked the fresh and acidic flavor of fresh tomato. There was very little sauce on the pizza and whay little there was had been dried up. Sauce is supposed to be the star of a margarita and this was really dissapointing. There were 3 small marble sized balls of mozza cheese and a few pieces of basil. The worst part though was that the pizza was cool and dried out. It had obviously been sitting for too long. Try as I may I did not detect the smoky wood flavor I was looking forward to in the crust. I had read about their oven and was really hopinh to experience a unique taste but it just was not there.

The mushroom pizza was okay. The earthy flavor of the mushrooms was very strong and the greens were a nice touch I have never had before on pizza. The truffle oil complimented the portablellos. However I can't say I loved the pizza.

We really did not like the caprisossa. I found the olives and artichokes way too overpowering and competitive. The smoky bacon was delicious but again, too many ingredients competing. I found the combination did not work. It seemed like a mish mash of toppings and it did not work.

The bill for the 3 pizzas and 2 glasses of house wine at happy hour was around $80. I thought that was too expensive for what we got. Again, the staff were top notch. They know their stuff and are very friendly. 2 thumbs up for service and atmosphere but 2 thumbs down for the meal. And to me, the food is everything.

I would not dine at Morris East again but what do I know? My colleague goes every week with her girlfriends and loves it. Its her favorite restaurant in the city. To each their own.

I think I will stick with my own homemade za. Even for my last meal!

It's very hard to go wrong with pizza from Morris East. Even when the place is packed and there's a lineup waiting to get seated it's worth the wait.

Presentation is gorgeous, pizzas are delicious, wine selection is excellent, and the desserts are delectable! Plus the intimate environment works so well here and the service can't be beat.

If you have been to Morris East yet, go to Morris East!

This place is first on my list of restaurants to take my parents to when they come to town. The food, service and actual space all score high with me, but the price means I won't be stopping in for a bite nearly as often as I'd like. You get a great meal for what you pay, though, and I'm not complaining.

Everything we ordered was superb. The crust is a highlight, light and thin with beautiful charred blisters from the wood oven baking its been through. Toppings are all simple in the best way and range from classic margherita to more creative pairings of fruits, greens and meats. Making things even better is that M.E. makes an effort to use local ingredients; the pork sausage on one of our group's pies, for instance, was from the nearby Annapolis Valley.

Water comes to your table in clear wine bottles - classy. Plus it's so nice to be in control of your own water fill ups; more restaurants should follow this trend. If you're looking for something harder than water they have a small but nice selection of beers, wine and a frequently changing cocktail list.

For a trial run, before shelling out the cash for a full meal, take advantage of one Halifax's rare happy hours here from 5pm to 6pm, Tuesday through Sunday. I don't think I've ever seen the "hour" in happy hour be interpreted so literally, but at least they're trying. Martinis are $5 and glasses of wine $4, along with other drinks and snacks at reasonable prices.

Best pizza in Halifax! It says "no" for takeaway, but they actually do do orders for pickup. Just peruse their menu online, order a little bit in advance and take home your favorite pizza to enjoy with a glass of wine!
