Chicken on the quesadilla is from a real chicken breast, not sliced bagged frozen mechanically separated chicken, so that's good. The salsa is fresh, made in-house. Managed to make it back to work on time, perfect. Can't wait to drink here seems like it would be a good time.

This place is great because it is a mixture of two different worlds.
Being so close to the U of C campus, there are hints of it being a University bar. The prices, as an example, as cheap in comparison to most pubs in the city. When the majority of the meals go for between $7.50 - $9.50, you know you're getting a deal. The food, from everything I've experienced, is good quality-- especially for the money.
Moving away from the University atmosphere, Moose McGuire's obviously has a pub feel to it. It is a great place to watch the game, get together with friends, or simply have a couple during the day when playing hookie from work. The crowd isn't too young, yet there is an energetic presence to the place.
If you're looking for a place to grab a meal and a beer in the Northwest, Moose McGuire's is a smart move. -

A few years back, I used to really like Mooses. It used to be a great place to go after work to vent with coworkers over beer and nachos. Especially back in the day when they had the messy peanuts. Lately, its gone super down hill. I was there this past Friday, after a few months hiatus. There was a group of about 6 of us, got a table on the patio. We ordered a bunch of starters and a couple ordered meals. I used to LOVE the nachos here, had them many times in the past. Used to get the large size, it would be super huge, heaping with cheese and toppings. When I had it on Friday, it was a significantly smaller amount with barely any visible cheese and skimpy everything else. They used to put jalepenos on, this time it was banana pepper instead. And they must have stopped including the guacamole because we didn't get any. Super disappointed! The other appetizers were crap as well. The calamari was a tiny amount and seemed really old. Seven layer dip was blah, and I can buy better wings at superstore.
After we finished up, we payed our bill and gave our waitress a better than average tip. Especially considering she pretty much ignored us except to bring out the food. Now to top off and make me never want to go back to this place again, she asked us to leave! She said we had to leave because there were people waiting for a table! Sure, it was busy there but its not like there was anyone lined up at the door. And we spent quite a bit of money, with all the drinks and food. I was shocked, felt like asking her for the tip back. -

The last time I was at Moose's was to watch a flames game. This place gets busy during a game. The TVs are small. I try to go with the specials when I go out to a pub, they had $2 off martini's. They don't make great martini's. So I went with beer from then on. The sever was nice and efficient, she paid attention if we needed another drink. We had the large nachos and they were definitely large! I was quite happy with the size and amount of toppings you got. The pool tables are always busy when I am there, hopefully I will get one sometime.
Overall I have a good time at Moose's. It has a great local feel to it, everyone is there to chill, have a drink and watch the game if one is on. Its an easy place to hang out at! -

Moose McGuire's... Beanery and Bar. Bar because they serve a lot of different alcohol, Beanery because, well, I don't really know any more. It used to be because they had a giant trough of peanuts with buckets that you could refill at your own desire, but that's been gone for a long time now. It was probably some sort of sanitary risk and they were forced to remove the beloved peanuts. They shouldn't call themselves a Beanery anymore. I miss the peanuts.
Aside from the absence of my favourite bar snack, Moose McGuire's is still a pretty fun place to go any night of the week. They've always got some sort of drink special and usually have a menu item to choose as well. The food is pretty darn good too; I've never been disappointed. Recently I tried their version of French onion soup. You can imagine why for only $4.95 I was expecting a pretty small bowl of soup, but I was surprised to see it was quite filling and I was truly satisfied afterward.
A nice thing about Moose's is their pool table area. They have two tables which you can rent by the hour, as well as plenty of high-chair seating to see all the action. I think $10 will get you about an hour of fun. If the place is quieter they might let you play for longer... just be extra nice to your waitress!
Another point for Moose McGuire's is their awesome outdoor patio. It is extremely large and very well heated, so you're sure to have a pleasant evening outdoors. Sadly, the patio is closed during the wintertime. It only makes sense though, right?
Still, with all those great things to be said about Moose's and all the reasons why I keep going back, I still have one complaint: no more peanuts. Bring back the peanuts. I MISS THE PEANUTS! -

If you're someone who spent any length of your student life in Calgary, then chances are high, VERY HIGH, that you've spent at LEAST a couple nights at Moose McGuire's.
Composed mostly of a student crowd, but not exclusively, Moose McGuire's is a laid back, friendly and fun place to hang out. The food and drinks are cheap, the staff is nice and the space is accommodating whether you're hangin' with your boyfriend/girlfriend, or 50 of your closest friends.
This place especially rocks during the summer when their patio is open.
I'm lookin' forward to it. See you there! -

I've fallen back in like with this place. The nachos and pizza suck but the ribs and wings are as great as they've always been. The interior and bar makes something of the architecture (a former safeway) instead of trying to disguise or work around it. But honestly, they need to lose the "Moose was a heroic firefighter in Chicago" shtick. They have various drafts on tap (including locals!) and tons in bottles. Although I miss the peanuts but not the giant kitchy chalk board of all the daily deals, not much has changed, including the pre-inflationary prices. Things are cheap (like $3.25 well drinks ALLLL DAY AND NIGHT on sundays!). I'd say this is some of the best values I've seen in this city. The wings are on my top 5 best wings in the city. On busy nights they convert the snooker tables into drinking tables, and the bouncers are verrrry laid back. Best of all, if there's a special, it is ALL night, not just 'til 1900hrs like most penny pinching place. Best of all, the place is quiet when a game isn't on: you can TALK and INTERACT. Amazing. I've had many a stupid night here and I look forward to plenty more.
Sincerely, Love,

P.S., if this place switches out a snooker table for table tennis, i will do whatever it tells me to do. i'll be its human toilet. anything.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Definitely a university pub. Busy on many nights with an under 25 crowd. They have a decent size patio with picnic tables on it. Expect it to be packed when there is a hockey game on. The prices are average as is the food. They have had some good drink specials in the past.
