I never really paid attention to parks...until I got married, that is. Apparently, parks are an ideal place to get wedding photos taken. If you are looking for a good place to get some wedding (or even engagement) photos taken, then you need to check out Mooney's Bay Park. The park is right on the water, next to Mooney's Bay, so you can get those lovely "walking along the water, holding hands" shots. Also, the park has this picturesque little white bridge over a little stream that I am guessing was built EXPRESSLY for wedding shots. I didn't realize this until I got married, but you can't just simply show up and take wedding photos at a city park - you need to get a permit first. Parks in Ottawa are about $25 for a half day - about all the time you need. Make sure you get a permit, otherwise this tax-hungry community will have you ticketed.

Though fairly popular, I'm still quite wary of the beach here. If it's a nice, sunny day out, and you're with great company, it's usually a good time.
My main concern is the "beach". I find the sand to be pretty dirty, and the water to be even dirtier. DO NOT SWIM IN IT! It's murky and never the color water should be. Absolutely filthy every single time I've been there. I don't think I even know anyone that's actually wanted to take a dip in it. God only knows what kind of dirt and grime you'll drag out of the water with you.
I've never actually taken part in some of the beach pastimes you can do here, but there is lot of space for family time and group activities. -

Ottawa is hardly known for beaches but there are a few in the city and Mooney's Bay is actually a decent beach in terms of sand and activity options.
The park has a large man made beach that can host lots of beach volleyball games, including one of the largest beach volleyball festivals in the world, HOPE.
The water at Mooney's Bay Park is often not deemed safe but you can usually dip your legs and feet but I'd never actually go in any deeper than that given that's a river that gets a lot of runoff.
If you're headed to the park for a festival you're probably wise to take OC Transpo instead of driving since parking is often hard to come by when this place is busy.
This is a great park for little ones as the beach will provide hours of entertainment. The beach area faces west so you get the long afternoon summer sun and you're more sheltered from cool breezes here than you are on any of the Ottawa River beaches.
There aren't that many restaurants or stores in the area so do pack a lunch if you're headed to the park for a prolonged period of time.
