There's so many hipsters in this area... it's like a giant Urban Outfitters x 100. This fact alone is worth visiting this area.

We were tired of walking and wanted warm food because it was real cold, and we were walking and walking and all we could find were friggin' shoe stores until we found this place... a beacon of warmth. It was crowded so we decided it would be good. Plus I was craving Asian food... any kind... "authentic" or not.

Obviously this place is more fusion than Vietnamese, but it was really good still. I got  pho - it's not the pho I'm used to but it was still delicious! Warm broth, a subtle taste.

Service was great too - even though it was crowded and all the servers were really busy, they were attentive and spoke perfect English. How do the Germans speak better English than us? Seriously! It's crazy!

The couple next to me were ridiculous. The guy looked like he was a 40 year old drug dealer from South America, and his wife or girlfriend was covered in 10 dead animals' worth of fur with that hair that was sooo tighly rolled up in a bun. Freaks!

the thing about most good asian restaurants in berlin is that the decor and the food don't match. when i see a trendy joint, i'm thinking the food is not going to be authentic, the prices are going to be high, and the service is going to be terrible. well, the food is a bit more expensive here, yes. though i haven't been to vietnam yet, the flavours take me back to little saigon in orange county.

the menu is small, but i take that as a good sign. the glass noodle salad was very good! my friend complained that you couldn't order rice on the side, but she is one of those tiny asians that eats a lot. it's funny to see monsieur vuong's large framed photo and the same picture on all the shirts... you can buy one too, you know. strange place, but the food is great.

I had heard so much about Mr. Vuong, so I thought that it was time I tried it out.. and honestly I was disappointed.

The menu is very small and if you're a vegetarian or a pescetarian you, sadly, don't really have a selection as the menu had, I think, 5 or 6 dishes and then 3 daily options of which most contain meat. I decided to go for the glass noodle salad and  the salad in itself was yummy. But once I got to those noodles and veggies that were socked in the broth it wasn't that yummy anymore, as there was way too much fish sauce in the broth, which left an unpleasant after taste. I think it's sad that the food is a bit of a let down as the restaurant staff is very friendly and the atmosphere and decoration are very nice.

Also compared to other places Mr. Vuong is a bit pricey, but then It's in Mitte and restaurants are more pricey there, so...

Overall I don't think I won'tl be coming here again.

I am not the world's biggest fan of Vietnamese cuisine. In fact, when it comes to Asian food, I would choose a restaurant serving Thai, Japanese or a spicy Szechuan long before I would walk into a Vietnamese restaurant on my own volition. However, my dear Berliner friend suggested M. Vuong because it was a gorgeous night in Berlin and the outside seating was so inviting and the crowd was so trendy... what a great opportunity for people watching in one of Eurpoe's greatest cities! The *wunderschöne* people-watching aside, the food was so tasty and fresh. Monsieur Vuong may have changed my mind about Vietnamese food forever. We started with some Vietnamese beers and spring rolls and I ordered a pork 'bun' for dinner. Fabulous! I plan to come back during my next visit to Berlin.

This place is really popular in the Mitte and I don't understand why.

There is outside seating and indoor. The indoor is intimate, but gets stuffy in the back. It was nice that there were coat hangers there too. There is bright red paint inside too, and to make it more intimate they dim the lights. The owner has pictures of himself on the wall with folded arms, just looks odd while sitting there for your food.

I ordered their most popular drink which was a raspberry mint (or something) shake. It looked super delicious, but when I tasted it I wasn't impressed. It tasted slightly bland and tasteless.

My friend and I also ordered the same pho, but again this tasted pretty bland for my palate. And they only had chili sauce to add in. My friend asked for me because our server only spoke German, if there was anything else and she said no while rolling her eyes.

We ordered chicken satay which was probably the best thing I had there; pretty sad since that is an easy dish to make.

There was nothing special about this place, their food or drinks. In my opinion there was nothing Vietnamese or fusion about this place.

One of highlights of traveling is not only experiencing the local culture and foods which are representative of the country that I'm visiting, but also having different ethnic foods  which have evolved in different parts of the world.

For example, I enjoy discovering that various Asian cuisine such as Chinese, Korean, Indian, Vietnamese, etc have evolved and taste differently in various parts of the world whether it be NY, San Francisco, Seoul, Paris or Berlin, as they have developed to accommodate the culture and taste buds of the society into which they have integrated ... and Monsieur Vuong is a prime example.

Although the menu at MV does not resemble much of the food I had in Vietnam, it is by far one of the best SE Asian cuisines I've had in Germany.  Their interpretation of Vietnamese Bun, vermicelli-style noodles salad, is as authentic as I've had anywhere ... adding a bit of the spicy fish sauce also kicks it up a notch ... and I prefer their clear broth wonton soup to the egg-drop wonton soups that I get in the US.

The menu isn't large but it's the quality of the food that counts, and I was delighted to find an Asian restaurant in Germany where half the entrée wasn't drowned in some kind of mystery sauce.

The service, unfortunately, can be hit or miss, but I found the location to be quite convenient, considering that it was central and close to the Hackesches Hof S-Bahn station ... another delightful area/neighborhood.

Monsieur Vuong is a great place for Asian Fusion.  The ambiance and decor was cool and the staff were very friendly.  The menu was a bit limit... some may not have a problem with that but for Asian fusion, I like to have choices.  The price was spot on, I went with two friends that I was traveling with and the meal was only 60 euros.

I recommend Monsieur Vuong to anyone I know traveling to Berlin, it was a great experience!

Came here last month with a group on the recommendations of my friend, Ally, who probably didn't realise that I grew up eating Vietnamese food regularly in one of its American meccas, Houston (other being San Jose and Orange County).

Ally loves this place because the ingredients are fresh and that they had a rotating menu of entrees. I knew I was in fusion trouble when I couldn't recognise any of the dishes from their Vietnamese name and the descriptions were in German. So I decided to go with the green curry (cari xanh). A bed of chicken curry (that was more Thai than Vietnamese) over a bed of rice. Except the dish came pregarnished with tons of herbs, mints, bean sprouts, and (later to my dismay) peanuts which took me by surprise since I am so used to having them on the side. It may be due to the cramped tight tables that I wasn't given the luxury to pick and choose. If I had known it was going to be served that way, I would have made my order specific so I could avoid the crap I was allergic to.

Oh as for the food, yeah it's fresh but that should be par for the course based on my standards. The person whose review compared this to the hip restaurants you find in NYC, you can take that hip crap and shove it because NYC is one of the crappier places to eat Vietnamese food.

I wonder who Monsieur Vuong is because there's a huge photo of him, arms folded like Mr. Clean, on the wall inside from floor to ceiling. Seriously, go to the restaurant website and check it out. If he is the owner/chef, that is some ego to make your waiters wear uniforms that display that image. If he is someone from the family that died and is being honoured post-mortem, it's still tacky.

Two stars for the food. The average street restaurant in Hanoi serves better noodles. Not sure what all the fuss is about, we even had to wait in line and they don't take reservations. On the other hand it's cheap (expect to pay around 8 euros for a main course), it' s fast and it has a good vibe. If you are travelling on a budget and you are still looking for some atmosphere and good people watching, this is the place.

It's impossible to mention wanting Asian food in Germany's capital city without being referred to Monsieur Vuong. Needing dinner (and something to occupy us in the last hours before the public launch of http://Yelp.de) we ventured here.

I commented to my companions that the heat and the smell of incense and food transported me back to Southeast Asia (such good memories!) The fact that most patrons were speaking German helped remind me where we were though.

As I think back on the experience we had at Monsieur Vuong a strange thing happens: I start hearing Shania Twain singing "That Don't Impress Me Much." And I think that pretty much sums up my feeling on dinner here.

The spring rolls were just mushy and flavorless. I longed for cha gio but these tiny bits seemed more like deep fried rice wrapped around tail-on shrimp.

The won ton special we ordered was marginally better but mostly because of the mango dipping sauce.

I enjoyed my pho. However, this is a soup that one prepares to her own taste with the addition of garnishes like cilantro, basil, lime, bean sprouts and onions which arrive on a side plate. At Monsieur Vuong my steaming bowl arrived with these already in. I didn't like this.

Perhaps my expectations for Vietnamese food in Germany are too high but my meal at Monsieur Vuong just didn't impress me much. Given the very small selection of choices, I'm surprised that each and every dish on the menu wasn't fantastic.

I mean really, if you want to try authentic Vietnamese food, go to Vietnam. I believe that I have the authority to say so based upon my multicultural upbringing - growing up as an expat daughter of an Italian Foreign service diplomat, who is of Philippine blood, educated in the USA, spent summers in EMEA and whose family lived in 4 continents - we know international! - This venue is NOT Vietnam, but it is hip.

Having said that, my simple two cents in World experience based upon my up bringing allows me to assess dining experience ranging  from a Zagat/Michelin experience to simple urban or even country-like experience.

While my experience at M. Vuong in Berlin during a long sister-weekend with my expat sister who lives in Germany (Frankfurt/Hamburg) for the last 12 years - has guided me to decide that this was a wonderful five-star lunch/brunch and afternoon delight venue experience.

One gray autumn day, my sister and I trekked the hip neighborhood of Mitte with our restaurant guide courtesy of ASW (http://asmallworld.net) - an exclusive-only-by-invitation social net site - that led us to this venue.

It was definitely NOT a true Vietnamese country venue but a cosmopolitan world class Vietnamese place such as what you'd find in Soho or some hip place in Manhattan.  On that chilly autumn day, we waited in line and laughed as we felt so NYC-girlies - while still savoring the scene of neighboring hip local designer shops.  After a long wait we were seated in a cramped area, amidst a group of hip cosmopolitan folks.

The soup was warm yet not traditional, while presentation was hip, the service was pseudo Western and crass Asian - which attributed to the character of the place.  The rolls were great, from a hip and non-traditional standpoint.  The experience was divine.  We were transported back to an NYC or London type of vibe while inundated by multicultural people.

    We like, we like !

How can you not love Monsieur Vuong? It's so f*cking good people post videos on youtube of themselves eating there. I recommend the veggie pho and the ginger lime tea which comes steaming hot in a bamboo bowl. It'll cure what ails ya.

If you encounter a line(110% chance you will) and have to wait, they will serve a delicious hot tea to those waiting outside during the cooler months.

Sitting at one of the tables outside is kind of nice because you can wear one of the provided blankets and enjoy your hot food in the fresh air.

Service is fast and friendly. English and german are spoken well by the servers. There are a lot of communal tables inside for getting cozy with strangers. The seating is a little awkward in some spots but it would only be a big deal if you are a large person.

I have an outstanding invitation to a meal there with one Sangeeta B. that I've been meaning to cash in on for awhile now. In Europe if someone 'invites you' to a meal it means they're buying. The only catch is I first have to make my way back to Berlin. Monsieur Vuong's veggie pho is so fresh and delicious I would fly there just to eat it!

I was introduced to Mr Vuoung about six years ago. At the time I was living in Magdeburg, surrounded by mostly horrible restaurants (asian and otherwise) and my housemate Markus (who was spending his weekends with his girlfriend in Berlin) suggested in a quiet sly way that I should try out his local favorite. And so it began, with each trip to Berlin with my girlfriend (and now wife) we would visit Mr. Vuong almost as a little pilgrimage  (often as our  last good Sunday meal just before we caught the train back to MD).

The place is more Asian fusion, than traditional Vietnamese. It's always crowded, but you will always get a seat within a few minutes. Service is generally fast and efficient. The menu is ridiculously small, which has the plus that all the ingredients are incredibly fresh, and my advice would be to focus on the three options on the chalkboard which seem much nicer than those in the paper menu (e.g., I find the won ton soup on the paper menus pretty bland). All options can be made vegetarian/vegan on request. The fresh ginger tea is also excellent.

Mr. V has a special place in Berlin for demonstrating that Vietnamese food can really be so much better than the unpleasant cheap&nasty stuff that was so common prior to its arrival, and for that I think we should all be grateful.

I thought it rather weird that every restaurant recommendation we got in Germany was for non-German food. I was in Berlin for work. Monsieur Vuong was recommended by a friend of a co-worker. This was by far the cheapest meal we had all week and yet it was also the best. We had 7 people in our group but we ate and drank enough for 10 people. 3 courses and our bill came out to 150 euros. The dessert was amazing. The drinks were all great. And the entrees were refreshing break from heavy German food.

Decent Vietnamese like restaurant. As an emigrate from the bay area I have to warn the reader not to expect a truly Vietnamese experience but close enough. Prices are very reasonable. The crowd tourists and Mitte kind of people. If you are from Berlin you know what I mean, if you are from Mitte you probably don't.
