The food was very good and the atmosphere very nice; this is one of the fancier places at the base of Blackcomb. We didn't like our server but the service was good.  Everything was somewhat overpriced but then it is a resort.

I've eaten here about 3 times over two separate 10 day stays in Whistler.  The one star isn't for the food, it's for the service- here's the story:

Four friends and I went there for dinner and ordered wine, appetizers, and entrees.  The entrees arrive and everything looks fine until friend B takes a bite of his fish (supposed to be some sort of "crusted" dish) and promptly makes a weird face.  It's so salty he can't eat it.

We all examine it and agree to send it back.  Turns out that the crust the chef put on it was just pure salt because someone had changed his containers around.  So my friend had to eat a mouthful of salt which is pretty disgusting.

They bring back a new dish for him (by which point everything else is done) and don't apologize or anything.

Then, we get the bill and the fish is still on there.  So we call the manager and literally have to argue with her to get the fish taken off.  It was ridiculous and embarrassing.

Steer clear of this place.

Established since 1990, Monk's Grill was built on the best location on the best ski hill in North America.  During the summer months the outdoor patios offer the longest sunset and spectacular views of both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. If you're lucky you just might catch the sight of one of the resident bears grazing slopeside

Located directly at the base of the Wizard Express lift at Blackcomb Mountain in Whistler B.C, this bar/grill offers a great selection of beers and drinks to quench the thirst of any patron during the day as well as through the night.

The best time to hit Monk's Bar and Grill is to start thinking about it at about 2:30pm in the afternoon just as you are leaving Hortsman Hut on the summit of Blackcomb.  Then tuck the five miles of runs and turns it takes to get yourself down the mountain and finish the run directly in front of Monk's bay windows;   Just step out of your skis and enter the double doors at 3:30pm...

There is no better place in all of Whistler to end your day than Monks Grill at the base of Blackcomb Mountain.

Good and attentive service, that's for sure! The $5 Sangria special on a Saturday night was awesome..

I came here with my Aunt & we decided to order a bunch of small plates. I had the ceasar salad, which was GOOD, but if I had to change something it would be the amount of dressing. I guess I'm one of those people that likes a little bit of dressing, not a whole cup.

Same could be said for the portobello ravioli's...good cream sauce, but TOO MUCH SAUCE. Ahh! I had to shake off the ravioli's.

My auntie had the manhattan clam chowder which she claims was really good.

We shared the crab cakes which were so light on the inside and crispy on the outside. Perfect. The stuffed portobello's had way too much cheese and we had to scrape it off.

Our waiter was sweet and I had a good time, but I don't think I'd come back, sorry!

OK, but for the price, we wouldn't go back. The food was alright, but the decor was a little cold-feeling, especially compared to some of the other great restaurants in the area. My suggestion: If friends or family really want to go, don't complain, but don't expect to be wowed.

I emailed this to the restaurant.  SERIOUSLY.

My boyfriend and I visited your restaurant on 1/26/10 for our last meal in Whistler.  We were disappointed with EVERYTHING to say the least.  The restaurant was empty so there was no excuse for our server's lack of hospitality or graciousness.  Our receipt says "Bobby" on it but I have a feeling this is not her name....she's  blonde, no accent that I can remember (that is to say Canadian or American).

We were barely able to place our order before she was walking away, not paying attention to us anymore.  Our order was ridiculously simple and yet the food was terrible; we ordered the "whet" plate and the nachos.  The bruscetta on the "whet" plate was flavorless and lackluster and the pita bread paled in comparison to the bread served at Earl's with their spinach feta dip.  PALED= FAILED.  So, the "whet" plate was a disappointment, the goat cheese balls were the only saving grace of the crappy  bruscetta.  The egg rolls were a dime a dozen, as was the dipping sauce.  The nachos were also a huge failure; burned cheese does not equal nachos in any country.

In spite of my better judgment, we ordered dessert.  This is where the server really let her stupidity and lack of customer service shine; we asked what "tatin" meant in the Pear Tart Tatin.  She said it was a pear tart.  We said, which do you recommend, the lemon tarte or the pear.....she barked out, "pear".  We ordered the Pear Tarte Tatin; not only did the dish have a strong anise flavor (something the server should have mentioned) it was nothing like a tarte.  Anise is a flavor that should be mentioned if a customer inquires about a dish, obviously.

After the dessert was delivered, we asked what was in the middle of the pear half....we have a strong distaste for black licorice flavor....the server said, it was a "hard black thing they put in there to make it look like a pear."  We were appalled by her stupidity and when we saw her again and asked for our bill ($80) I informed her that the dish had a strong licorice flavor that we did not like and that the "hard black thing" isn't just a hard black thing.  It's a flavorful piece of the dish and customers should be warned that it tastes like black licorice before ordering and that she should talk to her chef and learn the menu.  She just said, "yeah" and walked away.

Needless to say, she did not earn a tip from us, which I'm sure others heard about.  I will assure you, this review will be shared online and other people, looking for a nice place in the Upper Village, will read about the terrible experience we had at the end of our trip.  Places that we truly enjoyed were the Rimrock Cafe, Earl's, Ric's on the Mix.....our dining experience at your restaurant was the only negative dining we had in all of Whistler.

Great steak. Trendy if predictable atmosphere. Good dark ale. Not cheap but this is Whistler after all.

This is only for the appetiser menu.  Do try the gourmet dip and the mussels and clams in tomato and fennel wine sauce.  Everything else was average at the best.  Prices weren't as thrifty as we've found the rest of BC to be.  So stick to the Apres Ski menu at this joint.  Very convenient and cosy though.  Great quality mixed drinks.  Had my favourite Turkey and Ginger down to a 'T'.

Fancy joint, lives up to its snazzy modern looking interior.  The waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable and the overall service was excellent.  Drinks came out quickly, and when we didn't order any appetizers with our main meal, they brought out some complimentary bread to munch on.  I ordered the new york steak and it was done perfectly along with aspargus.  The only downside to this place its a bit pricey, but considering its location and ambiance, it was appropriate.
