Yum and yum!
On my must-try brunch list for some time, I was excited to get some girlfriend catch up time this morning along with a benny.
The menu might be small selection wise, but it will sure give your diner-style appetite quite a feast! Flavourful choices included omelettes, Croque Monsiers and Madames. My Italian benny was rich with it's very softly poached eggs (poached in tomato sauce), sausage and cheese a top of a crisp English muffin. A decent sized salad and a hash and I was stuffed!
Be warned though, they really, really want you to go all out with a mimosa - no matter how many times you resist the temptation, they'll persist! In a no-booze-Sunday mode, I coddled my caffeine and sweetly declined! -

So, so good! Definitely one of Vancouver's best kept secrets!
I was looking for a new place to try for brunch and after reading reviews on Mon Bella I thought I would give it a try! Since the reviews were so high I thought it would be packed at 11 am on a Saturday. I was very surprised to arrive and see the restaurant mostly empty and even more surprised to see that Saturday's was 2 for 1 brunch- woot! woot!
Service, food and atmosphere did not disappoint! The french toast was so yummy- definitely the best I have ever have. The mushroom omelette was also very yummy and the price was right ;)
Will be visiting Mon Bella again soon for sure! -

Brad, the owner was previously with Cin Cin and Araxi's, two of the excellent restaurants owned by Hagop (Jack) Evrensel. He is a passionate restauranteur with a commitment to quality.
We tried a cured meat, cheese and pickles antipasto plate and a side of beets which were delicious and generously portioned. I had a pasta with meat sauce, it was fresh and delicious. My friend's salad and risotto were tasty too. This was my first visit and I will return.
The only critcisms I have are the limited selection of wines by the glass and that our cutlery was taken from our appetizer plate and placed on the table top to be used when our entrees arrived. -

I was able to enjoy Mon Bella two evenings in a row, which gave me a well rounded opinion. The location is great, West 1st is one of the places in Vancouver that offers a little culture, a little something different. The restaurant opens up right onto the street to enjoy the long summer nights. The atmosphere inside has a great ambiance and will make a cozy space this winter.
The service is very attentive and friendly. I was there for Tuesday night for the $25 tasting menu and wine pairing, excellent value. The wine pours are about 2 oz. If you going to check it out, definitely go Tuesday. The rest of the menu is fairly limited, but well prepared.
The next evening I shared two dishes with a girlfriend - the chick pea and sweet potato cakes were delicious; the cakes tend to be a little mushy in texture, but crisp on the outside and the flavors were very nice. We also shared the short rib main, and it is fantastic, beautiful presentation.
The wine was overpriced in my opinion. By the glass the pour is 5.5oz and anything decent over $11. They have a great antipasto, cured meat and cheese platter that would be perfect for sharing a snack with some friends over wine.
Let's hope this place can keep it up! -

My new favourite Vancouver restaurant. Tried Mon Bella a couple of weeks ago for a friend's birthday - picked it pretty much solely based on the location.
From what we could tell, the premise here seems to be to serve amazing food for next to no money, and then make all the money on the wine. So we started with a fantastic cheese plate that cost $4 a cheese. Then shared two appetizers between the three of us, and three mains. AND had dessert.
At the end of the night we'd each spent no more than $20 on food, but a significantly larger amount on the two bottles of delicious red wine we downed. The service was charming and attentive (though I have heard from a friend who went last week that they had a slow time of it).
I have been craving the food ever since. Nuff said! -

I had heard about this place from a friend of mine. I was quite excited to try this restaurant that used to home to vintropolis.
I'm picky about food and service. We went in at about noon to experience the weekend brunch menu. We were seated and given a one sheet menu. The price is reasonable. However, I will say this, if you are looking for your standard bacon and eggs you will not find it here.
that being said, i examined the menu and found some interesting concoctions. I tried the Croque Monsieur, a glorified Monte Cristo.
I found it a bit salty due to the mounds of meat. I took some of it out so i could enjoy it the dish. The potatoes were uninteresting and more of a mushy side pile. I was not happy with that. The surprise for me was the refreshing little side salad which i thought was better than the main.
My friend enjoyed the french toast with a kick of chili pepper. WHen she mentioned that i was intrigued.
The presentation was clean but not too imaginative. The grease factor was low not like your typical greasy spoon fair.
i would give this place a second chance to try their main menu which to me is where they may shine more. -

Like so many other places, I have yet to try the dinner menu here and have only been to Mon Bella for brunch. What can I say? Something about brunch calls out to me... it can drag me out of bed like no other.
This said, though, I was dismayed to see that there were no Hollandaise-oriented dishes, like, say, eggs Benedict. Disappointment aside, I like to pretend I'm flexible and accommodating, so I quickly settled for one of their spinach, tomato, mushroom and goat cheese scramble. Served with mashed potatoes and toast, it quickly pushed out all my Hollandaise sauce fantasies. Intensely rich in flavour, each bite was packed with herbed punch.
